When they make a dark souls movie, the intro should be a hero, clad head to toe in amazing looking armor, sporting a sword on fire, flawlessly traversing a landscape like a badass, and confronting a boss.... only to be killed in two hits before introducing the actual protagonist
Dark Souls in a nut shell: "It's like being married to a woman who is attractive and charming and funny and intelligent and you are soulmates and everything is perfect, right? She is the perfect woman. You could not ask for a more better woman in the world. You love her, and she loves you. Only, she has one flaw. Every 5 minutes, she punches you in the face... For no reason, she just punches you in the face every 5 minutes. Even at night, you wake up, she punches you in the face. You recover, get 3 minutes 38 seconds of sleep, then she punches you in the face again. And you love her." From steam review by Pencil.
Do.... do people get lost? I've run around trying to find what to do next, but I don't remember ever feeling like I didn't know where I was or how to get back...
HalcyonSerenade oh come on, dark souls one.. the depths, catacombs? What about meeting Seth for the first time? All these areas I got “lost” as most people did.
MrErit23 no, thats a common misconception, there are 7 difficulty levels ng, ng+ all the way to ng+6 also, yes ***** after ng+3 the difficulty jump is only like 8% or something, where as from ng to ng+ its like a 25%, and ng+ to ng+2 is another 25% or something
***** eh, I went all the way through just becuase I wanted to be able to say I did, initially it was to get all of those delicious achievements for getting everything in the game, got them all by ng+5,
Dan G NG+5? I got them all by NG+3, the main problem was just Soothing Sunlight, WotG and Great Izalith Ball, fuck killing 450 people as a blue AND a red...
yeah that had me laughing so hard. bought the game on a steamsale a year ago without playing it yet and watching this doesnt give me any incentive haha.
Christopher Sheffield Aw man, you gotta play it! I've had the game for like a year and a half and I actually just started playing it like a month ago lol. It's for sure becoming one of my favorite games. Super hard at some points, but so rewarding when you get things done haha
Man, give it a try. It's not even so hard as they say. The thing is: everyone is accostumed to the action-rpg combat system of spam-attack-to-win, and when they approach DS on the same way they die because DS is about strategical combat. It is all about having patience, paying attention to your environment and timing your moves. Absolutely everything on DS is telegraphed, you can see it coming if you are paying attention. Everything. From traps to tougher enemies to ambushes.
Lênon Kramer Yeah, the enemy and level design is so amazing. Really the only time I die is when I get impatient or too cocky lol. It's such a great game though haha
Came to rewatch this after Elden Ring's massive success. Damn, Souls franchise grew so big. Happy to see Fromsoftware studio doing this well today, they totally deserved it. They still managed to keep their well known Souls games spirit even after going mainstream, never fell under that corrupted modern gaming disease.
Oliver Bukor it's 5euro ( dunno if you're european or not ) , on steam sale now, better grab it, it's fucking worth it ... If you can't afford that, there're cracks of the game everywhere ! You can't miss on this game :3 !
@@0sanitydude138 Yes, but the challenge is a stylistic choice. Enjoying the style isn't something that everyone is innately capable of. There are people who say that subjectively, Dark Souls is no fun because it's too hard, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't agree with that opinion, but it's a valid opinion regardless.
What annoyed me most ever was the constant big red words popping up and that irritating as f00k noise it makes all the times you fail things like combos in tony hawk 4...
+Denmark Thanks. I've mostly been doing it with Ds3, maybe I should try with dark souls 1, trying to beat Gwyn with a zweihander and no parry is pretty tough. Who knows though, I pummeled both Kalameet and Manus yesterday. :P
Andromalius Well, try blocking then ;) I beat the guy on my first try with a +15 zweihander, the havel set and the greatshield of artorias (or whatever it's called) He did NOT like my heavy attacks, and my shield blocked most of the damage he could deal, only a decent amount of fire damage got through. Ain't faced him in ng+ yet tho, I recon he'll be much harder... Most likely he ain't gonna be as hard as fat pikachu and Sir. Lance alot
Thanks for the tips. I often switch back and forth between Havel and gold hemmed set, mainly because I'm not one for heavy builds, but a lot of fights in this game are made somewhat easier tanking(at least I find it does). I just got lucky and got a black knight sword from a black knight in the kiln, and am using the dragon crest shield. This makes thing much more manageable, considering I'm much more familiar with lighter weapons and builds. Also I don't think any boss in Ds1 except for maybe artorias can compare to pikachu and snorlax lol.
I actually enjoy games that are hard to play, love a challenge, this game is not as hard once you get to understand it, it will only take you like 100 gameplay hours to do so...
I can appreciate some well thought-out humour and satire - and I thought this was hilarious. There were some moments in this video when I genuinely laughed out loud. "Demon souls... the hipster one people pretend they have played" - totally me Praise the sun! \\|T|//
"and one completely out of place optimist." Need I remind people yet again that most of the NPCs in Dark Souls 1 actually wanted you to succeed and live?
@@CrysResan I could have cared less. I know that I wanted some of THEM to live, like Reah, but when I discovered her soul remaining at the altar, I shed zero tears as I proceeded to tear Petrus a new one.

@@AoIndigo u talking about dark souls 2 . i have i3 6th gen 4 gigs of ram with no dedicated gpu and at 1080p low i still get 30+fps everytime so what are u playing on dude?
I have always accepted a challenge from video games, enjoying the fact that I must try several times on a boss before making it, surprise ambushes etcetc, all while keeping my calm, happy gamer attitude up. Until I played Dark Souls......... I'm now a screaming loonatic with a hate/love relationship to all inanimate objects within a 20 yard radius of my TV set.
It's rearly the bosses that gets me. It's more so getting through thick areas of though enemies that I KNOW how to beat easily, but because I died, I rush through it and get caught in 2 small enemies' slash attack combos and frop from full health to death without being able to move. Etcetc. But yes, that boss was a bitch x)
So you gonna get Dark souls 3? it's still a good game though people tend to think Dark souls 3 < Dark souls 1 in quality Unless you ask me but i'm weird
Cristian Rios really the best advise. I can’t tell you how to get better at parrying. How to get better at dodging. How to get better at the game. But I can tell you to practice. And eventually you’ll get good.
dark souls drinking game take a shot every time you die, say fuck, or lose your hope to live. its all fun in games until the world runs out of alcohol.
YOSHICLAN TrueEpikDuck put it into youtube-mp3.org and download. Drag-drop it into Goldwave (download and install this, is free). Cut all the excess off and adjust volume using goldwave, save as mp3, upload to phone.
it could be worse, you could be playing on a qwerty keyboard. Seriously, who the fck thought it was a good idea to control the camera with the buttons instead of the mouse?!
im surprised they never mentioned how much they borrowed, or should i say "inspired by" the berserk manga. :p at the end it should have said "BERSERK: THE VIDEO GAME"
+eddy9524 I don't see the connection. Granted I only watched the movies and read a few of the manga but I don't really see it other than they both can have big swords.
+blayne gower well saying your not overly familiar with the material explains it, plus it would be tedious for me to spell it out for you by that extent. If you dont get it dont worry about it, your just not in the know.
eddy9524 Wow that was kind of a prickish response. I was actually curious about what connection you were making since I don't see one to Berserker other than big swords.
+blayne gower well considering theres no body language or tone from a message the "prickish"-ness is how you see not actually how im saying it :p really its not a bad thing if you dont know. you just havent dived into the source but if you want can see the connections (especially with the director of the game of his countless inspiration from the berserk series) you would have to into them yourself i wont explain to because the connections are all over the place. Even the TITLE ITSELF is taken from a passage by Griffith in volume 3 of the manga. So you can read into comments how ever you want, whatever :p.
The 'Souls games have that unique effect on me that dying to a boss over and over and over and over and over again... it becomes personal before it becomes frustrating.
Dark Souls was literally the first game I ever bought. Can't recommend it enough. DS1 is pretty cheap on steam and it's still really active for online play. Go for it.
If you want to play on PC then you need to get 3 essential mods: 1. DSFix (30fps unlock, 720p unlock and many more graphical tweaks) 2. PVP Watchdog (detects hacks and allows you to kick hackers) 3. Wolf's DS Connectivity mod (keeps a constant number of players connected to your game). Also play with a controller, because the mouse controls are broken and the keyboard layout ain't great.
guys, i appreciate the advice and all, but i'm not new to dark souls. i've beaten and own all of them and played them quite a bit. hahaha just curious, but why are you assuming i don't know these things/haven't played it before?
So i thought people were over selling these games difficulty. I was so fucking wrong. Like, its the weirdest fucking formula. You fucking hate the game but cant put it down.
+Sloth McSlotherson That's what makes them great, you wind up throwing your console out the window, but you're so pissed off at that boss you just have to get your battered console and beat the boss.
Castlevania 3? You mean, the original series, or in the PS3 series "lords of Shadow"? But thinking about it, it's right either one you choose, especially about the 2D ones (my god how i loved the ones for NDS...)
@@rmrm3602 Both the Witcher and Souls series have amazing titles. Both feature a very gray world: there's no good, no bad, just survival. I think they do have a lot in common. Dark Souls is a little more philosophical in its approach, Witcher is pragmatic. Both get a very similar message across. I love 'em both. :)
Yesss, another episode of Honest Game Trailers. I really enjoy this series on your channel, and to be honest its one of the only reasons i am still subscribed. Could you maybe next time make a dayz standalone one? I know a lot about that game and I know you can easily make a video about it. Thanks for this video anyway
"Others just want a game to f*** them till they love it." My relationship with the Ys games at the moment. (Ys I, II, Origin, Napishtim and Felghana to be exact.)
I pretty much play mage in any RPG (at least the first go around), and I was a bit frustrated to hear that I'd taken the easy way out. I took the way I always take. I cast magic missile at the darkness. I had no idea people thought it was "easy mode". Also, I would say that there were several places where I'm certain not being a caster would have been easier.
It was only through trial and error that I finally discovered that the three attributes you're actually supposed to focus on the most are Strength, Endurance and Faith. Once I got all those up to 50, the game became a relative cakewalk.
Some of O&S's many compiled nicknames: -Pinky and the Brain -Drake and Josh -Fatboy and Slim -Biggie and Smalls -Bonnie and Clyde -Little Boy and Fat Man (nuke references) -Mario and Luigi/Wario and Waluigi -Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry -Fat Bastard and Mini-Me -Taft and Lincoln
Snorlax and Pickachu Snorsmough and pickastein or just "those two A*& holes in Anor Londo lol they are a fun fight to me. I have more trouble getting past the archers without using arrows than i do killing O&S
@@billymoxley9574 Not sure if this is a troll, but if not. THE inspiration for Dark Souls is a manga\anime Berserk. Kentaro Miura was the mind and pen responsible for Berserk, he passed away this year. If this is a legit comment and you like Dark Souls and are truly unaware of Berserk, you're life will change after this comment. Many consider Berserk the greatest Dark Fantasy story ever written. If you truly are ignorant to Berserk, you're in for a treat, enjoy.
+Aatrox Sagitarius Rockband Controller has like 6 buttons on it while a Keyboard has over 120... At least a keyboard is designed for multiple games, unlike a rockband controller.
Just to clarify. Dark Souls isn't that hard. Anybody who says it's "insanely" hard or "impossible" to beat clearly haven't played enough, or played at all. The Souls series is amazing. Just because a game doesn't hold your hand, or the combat isn't just R1, R1, R1, doesn't mean a game is bad, or hard. And yeah, Skyrim's combat is bad, and yes i've played it extensively (400 Hours Logged). The Souls series just takes more skill and practice, you can't just pick it up, win, then be done with it. It takes trial and error. Also beating the game isn't something to brag about. If you want to brag, beat the game with no deaths or do a SL1 playthrough.
It's not hard. And it's not easy either. It has a balanced dificulty. If you suck then yes, you'll die 300000000 times with the first boss. If you're awesome then yes, it'll be a piece of cake.
The difficulty of Dark Souls (1) is a strange phenomenom... Sure, once you KNOW the game it becomes a playground. You can plan ahead, set your routes, engineer everything in advance, make challenges for yourself or attempt a lvl.1 playthrough. But... If you played it 1st time with NOBODY telling you how the game works or where to go or look for things. If you knew NOTHING except from your experience (no FAQs, advice, friends, playthrough vids.)... then this game would be INSANE when it comes to difficulty. I knew people who started with DS2 (offline, no help) and did NG+++++ Same people failed to finish DS(1) once without any outside tips or help. Yep.
Jeremiah Smith Dude, I had no help and it wasn't "insane hard". Don't be silly. Yes, it is hard in the beginning, but if you're not a complete idiot you should get the idea of the game when you get to the bridge with the Hellkite Dragon. It is hard, but not that much. And I didn't even use magic. All block, dodge and attack.
THEPELADOMASTER Screw magic. I don't use magic in any fantasy game if I have a choice... Also, Everyone can act like a badass. I remember when playing DS, everyone knew something the other person didn't... If it wasn't for the tips from others, how many people would: become Darkwraiths, climb to the crow's nest, unlock the Darkmoon cov., drop down to get avelyn, summoned Leroy, got gold serpet ring...etc....?
Dark Souls is not Cat Mario, it's Flappy Bird. It can be extremely challenging and frustrating, or it can be very easy, as the challenge is the same for everyone. Either way, it's rather fair and even if you suck at the beginning, you'll eventually become better at it if you just keep playing it.
+Dr Famine I'm not too familiar with Cat Mario, but I will say Dark Souls is very much like the Impossible Mario hack that some people have done let's plays of. Both are exceedingly difficult when you start off, and are actively designed to fuck the player over. Both also can be speed ran without any trouble if you know *exactly* how the game operates... which only comes from playing and dying over and over again (or watching someone else do it right) Personally, even though I do enjoy the Dark Soul games, I don't see them as being too fair; in the same way I don't see the Impossible Mario hack as being "fair". Yes, both games can be won; however, not without prior knowledge of what's to come. If the Abyssal Demon dropping on top of you, without warning, doesn't kill you - then a mimic will; or one of the countless other traps specifically designed to catch the player even if they think they're prepared for anything. All of those traps are easily avoidable, yes. But only after you've been killed by them, or have had someone tell you they were there. I think of "classic" difficult games that people always compare DS to, like the original Mario; I can not for the life of me think of an instance where the difficulty came from not knowing something was a threat until after the fact. The idea of someone picking up Mario for the very first time, playing cautiously, and beating the game without dying and without anyone telling them what to do, seems possible to me. It'd be insanely difficult, sure. But I can imagine it being done. Someone doing the same thing in either Impossible Mario, or Dark Souls? Not without watching someone do it "correct" first. They are designed to fuck over the player; not to be "fair" to the player. And that's not necessarily a *bad* thing. You feel much more rewarded after defeating a cheap boss, than you do after defeating a fair one... even though defeating them normally means you have to run around behind them, 'butt-poking' them the whole fight; or otherwise exploiting the game. :P
***** I explained this to someone before, but those dangers in Dark Souls are avoidable in the first blind playthrough. First mimic is in a deadly trap fortress and has a different chain from normal chests which should ring alarm bells, Hellkite bridge is full of burnt corpses, etc. You don't have to see a playthrough of Dark Souls to survive. Dark Souls is not designed to fuck you up, it's designed to punish you if you don't pay close attention. Cat Mario is trial and error. Dark Souls is trial and error only if you don't pay any attention to your surroundings. I don't speak for Dark Souls 2, though.
Yes, the mimics first appear in Sen's fortress. However, there are an equal amount of chests that give you actual loot in there as well. First couple I encountered gave fairly decent loot - lulling the player into a false sense of security whenever they see a chest in there; especially because all of the chests IIRC are by some sort of trap, whether it be pressure plate or giant boulder, or trapped elevator. The argument that the chain folds in a different direction is not really a clue for first time players - as unless you are actively looking to see what direction the chain is pointed, you are likely to not even notice there is a chain there. And even if you do, a first time player is more likely to think nothing of it; because they're not expecting chain orientation to signify that a chest that is already behind a pressure plate is going to turn into a giant mouth and try to eat them. So no, I'd still argue that unless you knew there were mimics in the game (and went around hitting every chest to make sure) you'd get attacked first time out... unless you just happened to run past those chests by mistake. As for the Hellkite Drake - most of the corpses you don't get a good look at until you are already close enough to spawn it. Even so, I never thought they looked particularly "burnt". They look just as rotted as any of the other corpses you find throughout the beginning portion of the game. Even if you could anticipate the creature spawning it's irrelevant - as the only way to escape it is to immediately sprint towards it, and make a sharp right; which on a new player's first run without knowing what to expect would be unlikely. Not impossible. But average response would be to run the opposite direction, and hide while it takes out the enemies on the bridge; and then wait to see if it has a pattern. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Again, it feels a lot more rewarding winning a game when the deck is stacked against you, than when the game is fair. And that's what Dark Souls seems to me. From the Abyssal Demon, to the Mimics, to the invisible bridges in the Crystal caves (one of which has an invisible object just chilling in the center of it, that I once ran into, and forced me to sidestep off the edge to my death), to just about everything else in the game; it is a game that has no qualms about being unfair to new players. It has its own rules. It's not going to tell you what they are... but you're going to have to learn to play by them if you want to survive. And at times you will think you have the game figured out, only for it to slap you back down with a Mimic, or an enemy standing right behind the door you just opened, waiting to backstab you to death. Seeing that the chain is pointed in a different direction when the chest is a mimic means nothing when you have no idea wtf a mimic is, or even that they exist in the game. And to me, that's the exact same on a conceptual scale, as the impossible Mario hack. In short: In order to win, you have to know what's coming ahead of time.
Dr Famine We're going to have to just agree to disagree, because while I agree that you should "be on your toes" in Sen's fortress; I still don't think it's fair to assume that the direction a chain folds is adequate reasoning to assume that a chest is trapped on your first go. Not when the player has already seen that there are multiple models for the chests in the game; not when they have already gotten past several traps to get to the chest; and not when the earlier chests in Sen's fortress all have items in them. If the "punishment" for not paying that much attention to such an obscure detail was that the trap activated and gave you a split second to dodge out of the way, that'd be another thing... but as has been my experience, once you start the animation to open the chest, you are immediately put into a grab attack that only ends when your character is dead. I have heard the player can survive the attack, though I have never tested it; I haven't made the mistake again since I was told about the chain link direction.
***** It's harsh and brutal, but I can't call it bluntly unfair. If you think that's unfair, fine. But I'd see it as unfair if there were no means of getting alarmed, and there are. They're shady and very easy to miss, sure, but they're there. Maybe the ability to roll away when you see the teeth and arms would be a bit more... suitable approach. But I kinda liked the "no escape" grab that reminded not to get so careless. Maybe if you could escape just the first mimic things would be a bit more balanced. But then it would be unfair if you learn that you can escape the grab, and then you can't anymore for no reason... And I do hazily remember surviving some of the mimic attacks, but only when opening the chest. When he's already up and grabs you, that I believe to be death with no escape from (I could be wrong on that, though). So... I don't know how the first encounter could be made better. Maybe if there were bunch of opened normal chests around the mimic (instead of the statues), so it'd feel more ominous and you could compare the differences and notice the different chain, and then act based on that? Or just have a shitload of blood under the mimic. I don't know. I guess it doesn't matter at this point.
Dark souls speaks to me on a very personal level. When I first picked up the game I was very depressed, and the game would try to beat and break me. And it did for a time. But then it taught me, that you can get through anything in life, no matter how many times you feel like dying.
THAT!!! Exactly that. Action-RPG is so fucking easy these days that any moderately difficult game makes everyone ragequit. I bet most of today players would never pass the first level of Pacman.
***** It have nothing to do with superiority. Everyone have their preferences. This is just fact explaining. Skyrim is nothing more than spam-attack-button, and I still enjoyed it as hell. As well as Dragon Age: Origins, the easiest RPG I've played on a long run. I'm just explaining why the people who are so accostumed with those spam-attack-button mechanics have so hard time on a game about thinking the combat out. DS is a game about patience, and too few persons have it these days. It's not about people who like this or that game, it is about the mindframe of a generation.
It's not a superiority complex. I'm not saying that I am better than anybody. All I'm saying is that specially modern RPGs are generally very easy, and that the Souls series breaks that mold without making it unfair.
This. I agree. Its hard to find a game that is hard but fair, like dark souls. I remember when I played Diablo on release and got to inferno. It was super hard because it was unfair and poorly designed. I'm totally new to Dark Souls so I'm playing them all in order now. Its like finding a hidden treassure. These games are awesome :D
I loved the intro "some people play games to relax, others play for fun! AND OTHERS JUST WANT A GAME TO F**K THEM UNTILL THEY LOVE IT!" I laughed my ass of when I saw it XD
"But other players just want a game to fuck them till they love it!" Best line ever 10/10....and that is why I LOVE this game series. I beat Vendrick on NG+48 with no Souls of a Giant, because I'm fucking nuts. Come at me!
Lukax Maniac I know he is, easier than Giant Lord, which is easier than the Last Giant, which is easier than beating Bloodborne with fists only, and no deaths.
Brant Rainwater You know that bosses don't get stronger after NG+8 huh? At +48 you're probably 99 in everything with bosses stopping to grow stronger for 40 playthroughs now. Woulnd't call that too hardcore, even if it was true.
I love all the cries of the people who are bad at Dark Souls in the comments. I bet you played for roughly an hour, couldn't beat a single boss, and gave up. It makes me so proud to have actual skill in a game that isn't just hiding in cover or shooting brown people or that awful glitch they call Skyrim. Fucking casuals have no place in my game. And I'm not alone in thinking this. Veterans of the series such as myself love nothing more than devouring new kids, who either stay to join the ranks or pussy out after getting invaded
Dark Souls 3 is my first Dark Souls experience and I blood love it. Love the music, love the atmosphere, love the semi open world exploration, love the difficulty, etc. once I beat it and it's DLC I'll be playing Dark Souls 1 and 2.
People are just so stupid. It probably pains Miyazaki that people instantly associate the Souls game with being super difficult, or virtually impossible. They are games with slow combat, but compensate for that with every successful hit being extremely damaging. Miyazaki himself said, over and over, that difficult isn't the point in any Souls games (he made). It was just a way to induce a feeling of success in player, or a feeling of fear, ect... For example, Demon's Souls had a boss were a 2nd one joined in halfway through. This was meant to evoke panic in the player, since they're chance of success greatly diminished. Dark Souls had a trap hole in the Catacombs that dropped the player right next to one of the most powerful non-boss enemies in the game. Despite being difficult, the Souls games have always been quite fair (except DS2). The challenging difficulty was just a way to bring players into the world, not frustrate them or sell sales (at least that isn't From Soft's intent. Namco has marketed the difficult since Dark Souls). Also, the frame rate drops are ought to From Soft not being the most technically accomplished team. The inaccurate hitboxes in DS2 are also a huge problem with the game.
***** No, it's actually an easier game. Unlike the previous souls games, enemies will usually exhaust their entire combo, and stand still for a moment afterwards. This is the interval for the player to attack, though it does look silly. The game overall had much more unfair moments. Opening a door had an ogre kill you, bosses tracked the player to a ridiculous degree, DS2 had more mobs (which works against the Souls strengths), had some enemies that instantly reset their combos, and broadly inaccurate hitboxes.
Exactly, holy shit, there are some enemies that attack non-stop, and also the placement of these( and some others) is so stupid. i.ytimg.com/vi/75b_1RQJaFk/maxresdefault.jpg
I REMEMBER THAT FUCKING HOLE IN THE CATACOMBS IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. I was crying in fear and apparently screaming occasionally as I killed the knight without taking any damage aside from the falling damage. But still that hole nearly made me wet myself and I say that with pride because I know a couple people who DID wet themselves.
I see a lot comments here about "Hard" Dark Souls and "Casual" Skyrim, but, I'll be honest, i have no idea how people can compare this 2 games. I, personally, played both of them, and i gotta admit that both of them are Badass games which will stay in my heart forever, Dark Souls made me very cautious about every corner, chest or even ladder! Skyrim made me feel like i am not even in game, such an amazing atmosphere and combat system (yes, its better in Souls but there are ROLLS in skyrim!!!). Both games gave me the feels i never had playing a game, it didnt matter if its Multiplayer or not. And after all i come with such thing: Yes, skyrim gives almost no challenge (even at legendary difficulty) but if someone would ask me the question: "What's the best game for now?" - I would answer: "Skyrim", this game gave me an awesome time, watching the awesome lore, killing badass dragons and... Ah, yeah, Dark Souls... I can just tell you what it is in few words: This is the first RPG...The real RPG, the game that will show you how hard RPGs can be, peace, SunBros and DragonBorns! Btw, when i see such comments, i cri evertim ;(
I'm sorry but the game isn't unfair (Dark Souls 1) and Dark Souls 2 is completely Broken . . . The game just requires you to accept and learn from your errors, but gamers these days just want to go through one playthrough without losing a bit of health.
It's broken? So if you take damage for making a mistake, the game is broken? Okay then.. Unless you were talking about Dark Souls 2, in which case I agree.
I played Demon's Souls! It was more unforgiving (less health when not human, dying as a human makes enemies tougher, the only checkpoints are after bosses) but the magic was brokenly overpowered and you had as much healing herbs as you could buy. Not to mention the (imo) superior soundtrack, and the boss that literally delevels you, or that boss that literally pivots another player against you. Still my favorite Souls game.
Well the boss that pivots other players against you Is bearly a factor as of today Not to mention the difficulty of the game is subjective I mean a few people feel it's the easiest souls game others don't It's really up to interpretation
DBfan and critic True, it is subjective. You did have as many healing herbs as you could carry rather than the limited Estus. And like I said, magic was more broken in DeS than in DS. For straight up difficulty its hard to say since I was already experienced when I went into DS, but DeS was most certainly more unforgiving. I'm a bit biased though, since I loved DeS a lot more than DS.
TheTorridestCheese I mean i can't make a say on the difficulty because as much as i want to i've yet to play the orignal Demons souls Though i have played all 3 of the souls games as well as bloodborne And in my first playthrough of Dark souls 1 getting to blight town was legitimitly one of the hardest things i've done and then i gave up on dark souls 1 later after beating dark souls 3 and bloodborne *fuck dark souls 2 it's the only one i legitimately can not play* The game was a breeze barring a few bosses like O&S, the four fuck boys, and Gweyn who gave me some of the most trouble
DBfan and critic I haven't played anything past DS1, so I can't comment on DS2, 3 or Bloodbourne. The first tough level was the hardest for me in Demon's Souls as well. I died more times in that area than any boss (except for maybe Flamelurker) or area in either Souls game. Once you get used to the combat and mechanics the game does get a lot easier. I did beat one boss in DS2, that knight guy who is an optional first boss, I think. Didn't realize afterwards that I could get an estus flask (thank god for other healing items).
TheTorridestCheese you just contradicted your self You said you havn't played anything past DS1 yet you then say you beat a DS2 boss Though i highly recommend bloodborne and dark souls 3 2 of the funnest games in the seires IMO
Omg, laughed so hard when I the baby started crying and you yelled: Not now! Daddys working. In the background you were getting your ass handed by a mob. So good😂

When they make a dark souls movie, the intro should be a hero, clad head to toe in amazing looking armor, sporting a sword on fire, flawlessly traversing a landscape like a badass, and confronting a boss.... only to be killed in two hits before introducing the actual protagonist
I second this
Or they should make a movie about Artorias since that is pretty much what happened to him
isn’t this Spy Kids?
They already did but it's not what you think 🤣
Pretty much it's Oscar lol
Dark Souls in a nut shell:
"It's like being married to a woman who is attractive and charming and funny and intelligent and you are soulmates and everything is perfect, right? She is the perfect woman. You could not ask for a more better woman in the world. You love her, and she loves you. Only, she has one flaw. Every 5 minutes, she punches you in the face... For no reason, she just punches you in the face every 5 minutes. Even at night, you wake up, she punches you in the face. You recover, get 3 minutes 38 seconds of sleep, then she punches you in the face again. And you love her."

Ridikis as a man who's beaten dark souls on ng+6 (the highest difficulty) I can confirm this rumor to be true

MrErit23 no, thats a common misconception, there are 7 difficulty levels ng, ng+ all the way to ng+6

yeah that had me laughing so hard. bought the game on a steamsale a year ago without playing it yet and watching this doesnt give me any incentive haha.

I think i have to go to the optician, i see a weird "YOU DIED" message popping up every 5 minutes, it's making the game unplayable.

@@0sanitydude138 Yes, but the challenge is a stylistic choice. Enjoying the style isn't something that everyone is innately capable of. do the dark souls challenge...10 push-ups every time you die.
lol I actually do that a lot when I play, sadly I haven't gained that much muscle :/
Andromalius then you are not dying enough!
Good for you.
+Denmark Thanks. I've mostly been doing it with Ds3, maybe I should try with dark souls 1, trying to beat Gwyn with a zweihander and no parry is pretty tough. Who knows though, I pummeled both Kalameet and Manus yesterday. :P
Andromalius Well, try blocking then ;) I beat the guy on my first try with a +15 zweihander, the havel set and the greatshield of artorias (or whatever it's called)
He did NOT like my heavy attacks, and my shield blocked most of the damage he could deal, only a decent amount of fire damage got through.
The Black Knight weapons are the best, as you can kill most enemies with a single hit if you upgrade your parameters enough.

I have always accepted a challenge from video games, enjoying the fact that I must try several times on a boss before making it, surprise ambushes etcetc, all while keeping my calm, happy gamer attitude up. It's rearly the bosses that gets me. im surprised they never mentioned how much they borrowed, or should i say "inspired by" the berserk manga. :p at the end it should have said
"BERSERK: THE VIDEO GAME"

I actually knew a guy who tried to beat Dark Souls as a magic only user. He was doing great...until he reached The Duke's Archives.
poor guy
I have flashbacks from that place in ng+4
I pretty much play mage in any RPG (at least the first go around), and I was a bit frustrated to hear that I'd taken the easy way out. I took the way I always take. I cast magic missile at the darkness. I had no idea people thought it was "easy mode". Also, I would say that there were several places where I'm certain not being a caster would have been easier.
It was only through trial and error that I finally discovered that the three attributes you're actually supposed to focus on the most are Strength, Endurance and Faith. Once I got all those up to 50, the game became a relative cakewalk.
I swear i was expecting the Pikachu & Snorlax joke.

Or beat it with a rockband controller
I knew people who started with DS2 (offline, no help) and did NG+++++
Same people failed to finish DS(1) once without any outside tips or help.
Both also can be speed ran without any trouble if you know *exactly* how the game operates... which only comes from playing and dying over and over again (or watching someone else do it right)
Personally, even though I do enjoy the Dark Soul games, I don't see them as being too fair; in the same way I don't see the Impossible Mario hack as being "fair".
Dark souls 2 is definitely the hardest game I've played, but it's a true challenge unlike every game today.
RiceDuke You should really try Darks Souls 1. Much harder and a better game imo.
So I've heard, but it doesn't take away from your max HP every time you die.
RiceDuke Approval ! ancient dragon = one shot. Vendrick = two shots. ghosts = 3 shots with the sword and one shot with magic. beautiful !
I'm not a magic user
ADP made DS2 too easy
Dark souls speaks to me on a very personal level. When I first picked up the game I was very depressed, and the game would try to beat and break me. And it did for a time. But then it taught me, that you can get through anything in life, no matter how many times you feel like dying.
This is the greatest, funniest, most convincing game review/trailer I have ever seen!
Is not that this games are hard, but most other games of this genres are too easy.
THE TRUTH HAS BEEN SPOKEN!
1:29 ... Get lost in beautiful scenery... that you will actually get lost in.
I loved the intro "some people play games to relax, others play for fun! AND OTHERS JUST WANT A GAME TO F**K THEM UNTILL THEY LOVE IT!" I laughed my ass of when I saw it XD
What other game would fuck ya till you love it......personally, super ghouls & ghost and hagane were just brutal
Isaac Clarke
I remember super ghouls & ghosts being on arcades where I live. Fastest way to spend your coins ever.
j9794 The "Good bye to your part time pay" Arcade game
“Amazing chest ahead.”
"Horse Butthole"
"Praise The Sun."
"I know i died, you don't have to tell me."- Things we all yelled at Dark Souls
"But other players just want a game to fuck them till they love it!" Best line ever 10/10....and that is why I LOVE this game series. I beat Vendrick on NG+48 with no Souls of a Giant, because I'm fucking nuts. Come at me!
Brant Rainwater Vendrick is easyest boss ever scrub
Lukax Maniac I know he is, easier than Giant Lord, which is easier than the Last Giant, which is easier than beating Bloodborne with fists only, and no deaths.
Brant Rainwater Gotta go kung-fu mode on Bloodborne! Micolash uses his fists for a reason!
micolash just spent a lot of time sitting in the corner for me, i just started throwing poison knives at him then had a little sleep
Brant Rainwater You know that bosses don't get stronger after NG+8 huh? At +48 you're probably 99 in everything with bosses stopping to grow stronger for 40 playthroughs now.
Woulnd't call that too hardcore, even if it was true.
"Lindsey Lohan." XD!
+GravelsNotAFood I laughed so much rofl
+GravelsNotAFood He looks like the Emperor (Darth Sidious) lol
+Paweł Szatan That's an old lady by the way.
Oh... then she has a big problem T_T
GravelsNotAFood not now DADDYS WORKING
The "Not now, DADDY'S WORKING!" line gets me every time I come back to this video!
"Fuck them till they love it" Literally the best description of the game ever
I love all the cries of the people who are bad at Dark Souls in the comments. I bet you played for roughly an hour, couldn't beat a single boss, and gave up. It makes me so proud to have actual skill in a game that isn't just hiding in cover or shooting brown people or that awful glitch they call Skyrim.
Fucking casuals have no place in my game. And I'm not alone in thinking this. Veterans of the series such as myself love nothing more than devouring new kids, who either stay to join the ranks or pussy out after getting invaded
Five gold stars for the SN. "Iron within, Iron without."
Alex Bredemann I love my fellow Warhammer 40k fans.
***** only if you swallow
i would own you with a clever comment but you are not worth the effort. now begone.
BrokenMessiah I'm so sure, please dazzle me with your limited grasp on dealing with people who don't agree with you
Dark Souls 3 is my first Dark Souls experience and I blood love it. Love the music, love the atmosphere, love the semi open world exploration, love the difficulty, etc. once I beat it and it's DLC I'll be playing Dark Souls 1 and 2.
“The Flawed Masterpiece” is a really good way to describe DS1, eh?
Watching this after DS3 launch like:
ONIONBROOOOOO
BITCH I PLAY IT ON SECRET SUPER HARD MODE! KEYBOARD AND MOUSE!
+Program.exe SACRILEGE!!!!
It is not hard on keyboard and mouse but it made me feel like ds was skyrim. DS needs controllers.
+Jose Constantin Laruscain meh..I play on mous and its just fine...
beside, its easier to aim that way.
fps mode
Play it again with soley a mouse as the controller you scrub
+Program.exe thats unintentionally brutal man
someone really needs to figure out how to port games better
What enemy are you talking about in the catacombs? :O
And also i can't agree more, you may have my upvote
Abbs Quqa A Black Knight.
How could you leave out Havel “The Rock” Johnson?!
Btw, when i see such comments, i cri evertim ;(
*claps*
Thank you!
so RPGs are meant to be hard and confusing i see now *sarcasm*
You cant roll in skyrim?
Also there's more lore in Dark Souls. And you can kill dragons in Dark souls as well? Where tf are you getting your info?
I'm sorry but the game isn't unfair (Dark Souls 1) and Dark Souls 2 is completely Broken . . .
The game just requires you to accept and learn from your errors, but gamers these days just want to go through one playthrough without losing a bit of health.
Challenge accepted :P
Detective-E Never found a hitbox problem myself, and if you say it because of the PvP one... well it's called lag.
I agree. This game has so much potential with the good combat engine (sometimes) but it seems wasted.
It's broken? So if you take damage for making a mistake, the game is broken? Okay then..
Unless you were talking about Dark Souls 2, in which case I agree.
Gameshunter92 Dark Souls II has broken hitboxes in single player...
3:12 "Lindsay Lohan"
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG I NEED THAT LAUGH 😂😂
That joke was from 'Meet The Spartans', where she became that xD
0:11 "Others just want a game to **** them, till they love it"
I just lost it, and laughed hard. Also, really accurate.
can I get dark souls arrested for rape?
Robert Kreiling what? I don't get it?
It's not rape if you like it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Because dark souls f*ck players?
Exactly!
Just Jared it's not rape if you like it
I first realized that I'm not ready for this game when Legend of Zelda appeared when he said "Triple A titles holding you hand"
some guy beat this, with a rock band controller, a legend is born.
i was dumbfounded when i saw that, the man has skills
people beat dark souls using the twich chat, seriously check that out. took us a long time
true, the glitchy ass camera, broken lock-on system, command queuing and overall sluggish controls are the real enemies in this game lol.
"Shut up! Daddy's Working!" That was great! lol Consider me subscribed to your channel.
This is the least honest trailer I've ever seen.
Blight Town NEVER lags.
It's not surprising when Sohinki and Jovenshire couldn't even get to Majula. Casuals.
YgoTeamTG They play too much Minecraft
YgoTeamTG
One does either beat the game with lags or is a filthy casul
Bahaha. This is awesome. GROOOOOT
well played sir
Bert & Ernie
Drake & Josh
Woody & Buzz

I seriously want to see all the names people can come up with for Ornstein and Smough

3:00 there's a spanish man who has finished Dark Souls with an actual REAL violin. You can see his heart beat too
Say "Rise and shine Mr. Freeman.... rise and shine.."
Or do a honest game trailer for Half-Life :D
I second this. Especially since Half Life 2's tenth birthday is coming up.
MrJetairliner100 And valve still cant count to three...

Do Ninja Gaiden!!!!!
+神但丁丁 All of them!
"Join with other hateful masochist" XDDDDD
Every time I play Dark Souls it reminds me how I'm not playing Skyrim and how I'm not having any fun.
I tried to play skyrim again yesterday after completing both of the souls games, it was fucking boring
Ouya mayo race
if a game needs mods to be fun its not good
How is dark souls unplayable without mods?
No problem if you have good internet
I played Demon's Souls! It was more unforgiving (less health when not human, dying as a human makes enemies tougher, the only checkpoints are after bosses) but the magic was brokenly overpowered and you had as much healing herbs as you could buy.
Not to mention the (imo) superior soundtrack, and the boss that literally delevels you, or that boss that literally pivots another player against you. Still my favorite Souls game.
Well the boss that pivots other players against you Is bearly a factor as of today
Not to mention the difficulty of the game is subjective
I mean a few people feel it's the easiest souls game others don't
It's really up to interpretation
DBfan and critic
True, it is subjective.
TheTorridestCheese
I mean i can't make a say on the difficulty because as much as i want to i've yet to play the orignal Demons souls
Though i have played all 3 of the souls games as well as bloodborne
And in my first playthrough of
Dark souls 1 getting to blight town was legitimitly one of the hardest things i've done
and then i gave up on dark souls 1
later after beating dark souls 3 and bloodborne *fuck dark souls 2 it's the only one i legitimately can not play*
The game was a breeze barring a few bosses like O&S, the four fuck boys, and Gweyn who gave me some of the most trouble
DBfan and critic
I haven't played anything past DS1, so I can't comment on DS2, 3 or Bloodbourne.
TheTorridestCheese
you just contradicted your self You said you havn't played anything past DS1
yet you then say you beat a DS2 boss
Though i highly recommend bloodborne and dark souls 3
2 of the funnest games in the seires IMO
Omg, laughed so hard when I the baby started crying and you yelled: Not now! Daddys working. In the background you were getting your ass handed by a mob. So good😂
This has legitimately got to be the most accurate thing I've seen in a very very long time. How have I not seen this yet?
