Lovely video! Helped me gain insight after I bought them recently, your video was very helpful as I couldn't find much reviews on the 1942 khaki pair. I am certainly more hopeful for when it comes in the mail soon. Thanks!
Glad to hear it! Hope they fit well!
Jake, I'm so glad you did chinos! I'm currently on the look out, where, how...And you provided all l needed to know. Thanks a bunch. Yes, they are versatile, casual, affordable. The Buzz goes offer a lot more. Looking forward to the straight jeans, t-shirts videos. Nice work and appreciates your transparency above all, it's real
Thank you very much for the kind words! They mean a lot.
Hi Jake, great video and great thanks for this detailed sharing. One interesting thing to note here is that "shinny" fabric the Buzz has utilized in these great chinos. They are shinny mainly because they are using the best-quality cotton (maybe Supima, I am not sure, but definitely cotton with very long fibers). A piece of killer garment!
Good point. I just wanted to let people know that it's there because some people may not like it
Wore the black version today. I definitely dress a lot more casual but they're pretty classic so they work with most styles.
Yeah they're definitely quite versatile
I love my Buzz Rickson's absolutely the best chinos I've ever owned. I noticed the fabric is slightly thicker when compared to most modern chinos and I think it gives them an excellent drap. I'm so glad you made this video! I've had the same thoughts.... although I wear jeans and sport coats all the time😂
Yeah they're amazing. Hey to each their own! I'm not saying it can't look good, I'm just getting annoyed at the overhyped that 90s style has been getting these past couple years
I love chinos too! The rise is perfect plus they go with everything!
Agreed! The high rise makes a big difference
Rickson and Mcoys are fantastic chinos! Great review!
Yes both great. McCoys doesnt seem to offer as wide of a cut though
Agree on the dress up or dress down limits on the chinos. More versatile than jeans in my opinion also. Especially when abroad on holidays in Europe, I can pack a chinos and get to use them casual during the day and more formal (ish) in the evening for dinners. Whereas I’d need jeans and chinos normally
Yeah very true. You csn switch them from casual to formal in the same day easily
haha I'm wearing chinos more than ever too, mostly because I'm enjoying being slightly dressier lately (eg wingtips, sports jackets, loafers) but also because I got some denim shirts. Also I got Merz B Schwanen's chin001 last week and their flappy-but-slightly-tapered cut is making me want to wear them with absolutely everything
Wow, it’s Stridewise.
@@HorseBawlz the tiniest microcelebrity on youtube walks among us!!
Dude those look so good. I dig them.
I would love to try a pair, you and David (The Vintage Future) both seem to love them. I would prefer to try them on first if possible though.
You csn try them on at self edge if you're in the USA
I have a pair of EG Workaday khakis that I purchased 11(!) years ago from the Bureau Belfast that have a similar cut. It's harder to find Workaday now but it appears that Nepenthes has a similar pant for sale. Unfortunately EG's attempt to be trendy (elasticized waists), incorporation of cheaper material like ripstop, and overall lower quality may make them less desirable.
Ah that's a shame. At least you still have a good older pair!
I've only recently woken up to just how much cheaper things can be if you buy direct from Japan. It doesn't always apply (and I'd hate to turn folk away from really great retailers like Redcast, who also have great prices) but I was looking at a pair of Sugar Cane's 1966 repros and the difference between Hinoya and the only UK retailer I know who carries them was insane.
By the way, that green wool jacket with the plaid front is an absolute peach - can you tell me what it is? Thanks for a great vid!
Yes it makes a massive difference to buy direct from Japan. That one is a 1940 Sportclad wool jacket
I also think its seasonal. I love jeans in the winter but they suck in the summer. Chinos are good year round. They are more comfy than jeans (Even the new stretchy ones)
Yeah chinos are better all year long
Can you tell me about what you're wearing in the video? It looks great! The hat, shirt, belt, and pants.
The chinos are what I'm reviewing, the hat is from Wellema, shirt from Freewheelers, and belt from Duke Mantee
Can you do a video on how to wear black? I have been very averse to wearing black for many years (always worn brown boots, that kind of thing) but Ive been becoming more interested in incorporating it into my wardrobe. I know “black goes with everything” but I would love if you did a deep dive in what to wear with it
Yeah I definitely have thoughts on that so when I push more into outfits and style, I'll do that.
@@almostvintagestyle Thanks Jake!
I used to wear a lot of beige chinos when I was younger. They are very versatile. Nowadays its slacks and corduroy exclusively. Just as versatile for me and looks a lot sharper. I also think they're more comfortable. Though I recently bought a pair of jeans again, but they are cut like slacks.
Yeah corduroy and wool trousers are fantastic
Who do you recommend for trousers, linen and wool pleated style trousers. Cheers
Scott Fraser Collection has a great selection of all those fabrics and they have several different pleated models. I have 2 pairs myself and like them a lot
I got intrigued by the 90's sport coat denim phenomenon you spoke of. After some research i do see what you mean E.g. Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld but I also saw some examples of it looking pretty fire; the jury is still out for me. Also, I think the real battle is chinos/trousers against sweatpants/athleisure wear, hopefully the youth wake up.
Ok yeah I definitely am more against sweatpants and yoga pants than I am against leather sport coats. At least there is effort with the latter
a dark denim and a sports jacket has become a classic look. i don't think it's going anywhere and here to stay.
do the black chinos look less shiny and more black in person? the photographs make them look very reflective (great photos by the way!!)
They still look quite shiny in person unfortunately. It went away on my first pair of chinos, but it takes a while
thanks for the info! I also have decent quads so finding wide pants is always a win. Any jeans you would recommend that fit similarly on muscular builds?
Not a lot, sadly. Going for denim military trousers is a good bet though
How much did the waist stretch after you broke these in?
Not at all, but mine are probably an inch or 1.5" loose on me so they wouldn't stretch much. It's a dense weave though so I wouldn't expect a lot of stretch in any situation
Would've been nice if you positioned the camera so we can get a look at the chinos you're wearing
Yeah I know I'm trying to include better b roll
I really like chinos myself. I am considering buying a pair of tellason chinos. I recently bought some selvage jeans that I can't get enough of. But I like chinos so much and I think its because I wore so many dickies as a kid. And my grandfather always wore chinos and work pants. Great video.
Yeah I love chinos and I also wore a lot of Dickies as a kid so maybe that's why I like them too haha
90s style was awful, but we said that about the 60s, 70s, 80s too. But at least those decades were coherent.
Yeah there is awful style in every decade in fairness.
That shirt !
Thanks! I really love this shirt
As a non American I don't understand the use for chinos
Real “old stock” Americans wear a lot of denim.
They're just a good versatile pair of trousers
Hahaha I find this take sooo controversial but it’s because I love denim so much more 😂😂. Tan chinos are unreal though and go great with a denim shirt or denim jacket 🤣
Haha totally fair. We don't have to agree😁
@@almostvintagestyle what would you say is a good price window for something like a chino and how heavy would you go with the fabric. i wanted something a little heavier but in that sort of colour
Vanta Black.
Yeah thats the one!
Dont be too vocal about it. Some hipster in japan is going to start tying to charge us $350 for that too.
Well Hinoya still has the prices fairly low so just go there👍
