    "Take the bike over some whoops fast and see what happens to you." Is the same logic and brain0power energy as "Try to pedal a bicycle into a fresh snowfall unplowed 4ft tall berm of snow and see what happens to you." Like.. Yeah..? Using the wrong tool for the job will always have an outcome that is undesirable or will require much more effort than if you used the correct tool. No one is saying the CRF250F or the KLX/TTR are top tier motorcross bikes capable of handling such things, at least stock. But you know what, if you spend about a grand in the suspension, and then get a big bore kit for the 250f you will have a heavier, but much less maintenance prone motorcross bike while still being cheaper than the entry level 9k bikes. Yes it wouldn't be ABSOLUTELY ON PAR with a purpose built machine, but no individual rider can really push their bike to even 80% of its capabilities anyway, people buying 450s in that regard make me laugh. Buying a bigger bike just makes you a lazy rider IMHO.

      Precisely this. Well said! People buying 450s for that reason makes me laugh too 😂 Like okay man… hope you enjoy it.

      @@notsoupmoto I've ridden a 450, even had a rekluse on it, and in the trails it was such a PIG to throw around. The reciprocating mass of the large piston going up and down makes the bike VERY hard to lean and whip around or do what you want with it. 450s only make sense for hare scrambles or desert runs, even most professionals don't run 450s, that should tell you a lot.

      @@notsoupmoto absolutely. I'm torn between the crf250f, Yz125x & Crf150r. Never ridden a dirt bike. Naturally the Crf250f would be the way to go but I need something with a lil more aggression. Which one would you go with?..

      but if you're looking for something with a little more aggression and are taller than... idk let's say 5'6" ish, then you'd probably be just fine on the yz125x. I think the 125 two strokes are fantastic beginner bikes if you're big enough to be comfortable on them and they will certainly give you more get up and go than the crf250f will. I 100% agree with what you are saying here, the crf 250f is an amazing bike if you are using it the way it was made to be used. But if you are someone who wants to take your bike to a track and hit big jumps this is not a good bike "for you". before I say this I would like to say I have nothing against Honda, and I even own a Cr 125 2 stroke. Though I will say my dad has a crf 125f, and the suspension on that bike was not nearly as good as the suspension on my ttr 125. but that is okey because that bike was not made to need good suspension it is made for trial riding not racing.

    My friend got a 2014 CRF250L recently, and its his first dirt bike. He loves it, and it's been great so far. It's definitely a little under-sprung for advanced riders, but it feels like a Cadillac going down the trail. You could ride it all day over fairly rough terrain with very minimal fatigue. What will get you hurt is riding at high speeds over obstacles that you, or the bike, can't handle. Same goes for any bike that has a lower spring rate than your weight requires, or damping settings that are way off. Always ride within your capabilities on whatever bike you happen to be on!

I feel like on the race bike in my case it was a kx 250 I had to hold on a lot tighter and it wasnt as smooth and chilled out than the crf 250f. If you want a bike that can do literally anything but jumps and dont want to have to service it as much I would recomend buying a crf 250f, you can cruise on it without feeling like the bike is controlling you, not you controlling the bike.

    actually, your forks wouldn't bottom out. Damping rod forks dont like quick hits and dont like to compress quickly because the orifice damping doesnt allow the fork oil to flow fast enough to compress that quickly. I think if you do find a set of whoops in the desert or something and try to blitz them on your TTR, KLX etc. , your wrists will probably take most of the impact since the forks will practically become jackhammers unless you modify your forks with some cartridge emulators and stiffer springs.

    As someone who just got the crf250f last month, I can say confidently that this bike is great! I’m a beginner rider who started riding on a xr100r the beginning of this year. I’ve progressed quickly and recently upgraded to the crf250f. I’ve rode it many times, and haven’t had a single problem with it. Yet I have a question, I’m a female rider and I want to try single track for the first time, yet where I live ( middle Mississippi) there is almost no dirt bike trails that I know of, there’s tons of side by side trails, and I would be fine with that if they weren’t so muddy, any suggestions?

      @notsoupmoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for reaching out and glad to hear you’re enjoying the bike so far!
      I personally don’t have much knowledge of the trails available to ride in Mississippi so I won’t be much help on that front. However, what I can tell you is that the way I tend to find trails is to talk to other people who ride woods a lot and see where they ride. It may be private land, or even public land but places where the trails are hidden and only known to locals.
      If you don’t know anyone who rides a lot of single track, try to look for any local race series such as gncc or hare scramble events and try to get to know some people there! The locals will surely know the best places to ride single track and you may even make some new friends while you’re at it:)

    TLDR the front end can be dangerous due to the porting(valving? of the forks) at the higher end of second gear (29.6mph) especially if you're near the weight limit of the bike (220lbs, geared I was under by 5lbs last year).
    My experience on dirt bikes is primary trail bikes which includes the 2020 CRF250F, 1988 XR200R (most relatable to the CRF250F) and the 2001 XR400R all of which are in the same class of the CRF250F though at different sized engines.
    XR200R 23hp (6 gears), 240lbs, 36mm cartridge forks (10" travel)
    CRF250F 21hp (5 gears), 260lbs, 41mm cartridge forks (9.5" travel)
    When I strictly compare the two bikes previously mentioned (XR200R vs CRF250F) together I cant disagree with the previous poster. Compared to a 36 year old bike the CRF250F is dangerous. The CRF250F's front end is a glaringly big weak link of the bike that cripples it from even reaching half of its full potential, it's designed way way too soft which results in a absurdly low safety ceiling (2nd gear) that even beginners can begin to hit and experience within a handful of rides though they wont know it. Meanwhile a 36 year old XR200R which is also a beginner bike they could learn safely from 1st gear to 6th gear without the front end throwing them in the same setting. While the front end may not stand out to you as a major issue due to the nature of trail riding, In a harescramble race setting where you hit the same spots repeatedly and end up with similar outcomes despite tackling it slightly different it becomes obvious where the problem is. Unfortunately you simply strawmanned away his argument of "taking it into terrain it wasn't meant to be taken to" which is a cop-out. Hes giving you the shortest text answer to see where the problem lies without writing a wall of text like I have. Unfortunately whoops come in a vast variety of shapes, sizes, spacing, etc so defining what a medium to large whoop is to one person and another can take on a very broad range from one person to the next... I can tell you personally that I've been thrown off the stock front suspension on 2-3 INCH max "whoops" (gentle rolling depression) on the CRF250F in 3rd gear (29.6-39.9mph) when the front forks decided to suddenly compress fully and tucked underneath me, thankfully it was between gaps of trees so my injuries were limited to bruising and hurt pride.
    I raced the bike all last year in Harescramble races, which are nothing more than competitive single-trail riding which you say it cant do??? Sure its not going to win B and A class races but amongst beginners the bike is very capable if you fix its one problem. After extensive trial an error and ruling out tire selection with similar results I can say the front end porting(valving? whatever) can be and is in certain situations dangerous due to how soft it is (even compared to the XR200R). It's unfortunately ported way to soft towards comfort and not safety oriented to the bike's capabilities (otherwise it only needs 2 gears), it can and will result in the front end Pogo-sticking uncontrollably when you load the front forks up. After I upgraded the forks with Tuscany Racings "good pressure" fork upgrade for 350USD (there's other options like bruce's suspension, or Race Tech Gold Valves) those sudden unexpected throws stopped and I was able to finally safely utilize 3rd and 4th gear safely, of course due to the limitations of the shock technology employed on the bike I felt like a rented mule after those races but at least the bike stayed underneath me. After a few races running the good pressure kit I decided around November to bite the bullet and swapped the front end out with an 07 CRF250R's front end and now the bike is truly at its best a true top tier woods bike contender waiting on a better fit rider (Im working on that part).
    I harescramble raced the CRF250F all last year on my channel and a good portion of this year
    I ran the stock front suspension from Feb 2023 to June 2023
    I ran the stock front suspension with good pressure kit ($350.00) installed from June 2023 to December 2023 and the goofy wrecks stopped happening and I was able to ride faster and more importantly safer for 350 dollars to put it on par with a 36 year old XR200R not a modern day race bike but the classic 36 year older farm bike you claim it to be.

    • @notsoupmoto
      @notsoupmoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t disagree with you that upgrading the suspension and specially tailoring it to a specific task (harescramble racing in your case) on the crf250f will make it far more capable. I also agree that when you take it over more aggressive terrains at higher speeds, the front suspension does begin to show issues.
      However, I guess the point I was attempting to illustrate in this video was that the bike was simply not designed to be a harescramble race bike. (Although you’re totally right that with only a few modifications it can easily become quite a capable harescramble racing machine.)
      And because the bike was designed with the utmost beginner rider in mind, a rider who will be taking it over the most gentle terrain (fields, farm roads, a very beginner tame atv trail perhaps) the it’s a bit unfair to label the bike as “dangerous”.
      Yes, the suspension can be dangerous when doing the things you mentioned in your comment. Which once again, I must say was very well written and explained based on your experience and personal use case of the crf250f.
      I just think that the intended design of the bike and average rider’s use of the bike is important so I don’t think it’s right to label it “dangerous” and end up scaring people away from it when it may be the perfect choice to help them learn the fundamentals.
      Clearly you are beyond that point in your riding experience and therefore can make necessary modifications to tailor the bike to your intended use case or get a different bike altogether that better fits what you want to do with it.
      I do appreciate your feedback though! Thanks for sharing the more technical specs of the suspension. Porting and all that stuff, which I don’t have the knowledge about.
      Cheers!

    Love these 220+ guys wining about the suspension . Lose some weight because the manual states that the bikes are not meant for them. I will get another Mx bike for that type of riding. But I bought this because it fit me better at 5-6 (165 lbs) and planned to ride SLOW with my daughter on the 125 fb

      Yeah just have to know what type of riding you want to do and understand what type of riding the bike is meant for. Also as far as bigger riders go, you can always get heavier springs. It’s impossible to make factory suspension settings/hardware work for everybody

    Hey Soup Moto,
    I’m 15 years old, 6 feet tall, and weigh 270 pounds. I’ve had some experience on a dirt bike before-I had one for about a year when I was 8. Now that I’m older,15 and living in Tennessee, where there are tons of great trails right by my house, I’m eager to get back into dirt biking. I currently ride trails on my four-wheeler and my dad’s Can-Am side-by-side, but I’m really looking to step up my game.
    I’m trying to convince my parents to get me a dirt bike and was wondering if you’d recommend the CRF250F for my size and experience, or if there’s another model you think would be better. Your videos have really inspired me, so I’d love to hear your advice!
    Thanks a lot for your help!

    • @notsoupmoto

      Thanks for reaching out! I'm glad to hear that the videos have been helpful and an inspiration. If you like the idea of the crf250f and just want something to putt around on, I think it would be just fine to get you back into riding dirt bikes. I'm 6ft and around 160lbs so the stock suspension works fine for me and I can get away with the size of the bike (a bit on the tiny side) however to be more comfortable, it would be a good idea to get a set of taller bars.
      So, for you, if you wanted to go with the crf250f, I'd recommend getting a set of taller bars and getting heavier springs. You can find them on hyperlite moto. That would make it ride much nicer for you and be a lot more comfortable.
      If you wanted to go for another bike, honestly you'd fit just fine on a full size bike so you have a range of options. I would stay away from 450s or 250 two strokes as they are a lot of power for someone just getting back into riding and it would make your experience less enjoyable. You could look into something like the crf250rx, yz250fx, or even the yz125x possibly. Even some of the dual sports would probably be awesome for you.
      If you do some research on any other bikes, feel free to reach out to me in the comments and ask me about it and I'd be happy to share my thoughts!
      Wish you the best on your dirt bike journey!
      -Soup

    I’m sure you’re already aware. But maybe this will clear up any confusion regarding the topic of this video. Sounds like the guy is trying to say the crf250, ttr’s, and klx bikes will limit your progression as a rider. If you plan on progressing beyond a beginner level of riding. Purchasing a new one of these bikes doesn’t make sense financially. Because you will be ready for more performance within a short amount of time. And it will be difficult to get your money back out of the bike when you decide to upgrade

    • @notsoupmoto
      @notsoupmoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If someone wants to ride on terrain that this bike wasn’t designed for, i.e. more technical/difficult single track, then they have the option to either upgrade the suspension or purchase a different bike better designed for that terrain.

    • @GahBoe
      @GahBoe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@notsoupmoto Fair enough. I think most riders enjoy riding what’s in the video and more. Truth is at some point, pushing the bike will result in serious bucking. I think that’s what the commentator was referencing. These bikes are super reliable and can become quite capable with upgrades to suspension below a thousand bucks. So it’s hard to beat on price when compared to buying another bike at double the price.

  • @JP-ec9rl
    @JP-ec9rl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Actually no offense but you are both partially wrong.
    A motocross bike isn't the ideal woods weapon. It's a suspension is specifically set up for hitting big jumps and carving hairpin turns at Max speed. And a klx 300r is literally the chassis of one of historically the most competitive hare scrambles bikes ever, the kdx 200.
    They have since come out with better bikes for gncc racing and hard Enduro specific purposes but none of it means anything if it isn't sprung, valved and set up to your individual weight and intended purpose.
    A motocross bike is intentionally power curved for the purpose of being on "the pipe" it generally lacks the bottom end power that is desirable for woods riding.
    Although modern mapping configurations are making some of these bikes more cross compatible between motocross and trail applications but it still doesn't solve the theory of operation of different suspension setups and nothing ever replaces the tractor like power of a heavy weight flywheel.
    Take for example the YZ 125 or 250 compared to their x model siblings.
    Same chassis and basic engine but completely different animals on suspension and power delivery.
    They are purpose built machines.
    I do agree though that the bottom end beginner bikes are a waste of money for anyone who plans to progress to aggressive riding.
    Those bikes are bottom end trail bikes for putting around on and perfectly adequate for that purpose but if you want to push the envelope, you're eventually going to need a suitable machine but you need one designed for the task.
    A motocross bike will wear you out in the woods and hurt you just as fast as a subpar trail bike will.

    • @notsoupmoto
      @notsoupmoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with everything you’re saying and that was kind of my whole point in making this video.
      Also, I never said a motocross bike was an ideal woods weapon so idk where you got that from?
      But yeah my whole point was that they make different bikes for different things so saying that any individual bike is “bad” or “unsafe” just because it can’t do something it wasn’t designed for is illogical and flawed.
      Thanks for your input though. Spot on all around!

    • @JP-ec9rl
      @JP-ec9rl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@notsoupmoto I'm sorry, I thought you said that a motocross bike was better for trail riding?
      but it really isn't, it doesn't even soak up the fast chop of roots and rocks even as good as the Honda that you are riding does.
      It will definitely jump better but jumping isn't everything on the trail.

    • @notsoupmoto
      @notsoupmoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I was just making a comparison to show the vast differences in suspension setups and hardware just like you were also highlighting in your comment. I wasn’t talking about motocross suspension as to how it relates to trail riding I was comparing Mx suspension to the crf250f suspension to illustrate the point that bikes are designed for different purposes.
