I can understand why Singapore can be so prosperous at the same time has good relationship with both China and US from this 45 mins of interview. The interviewer hinted him so many times to criticize the US government, but he didn't fall into it. Instead, he is 100% correct on the relationship between government and citizen to combat covid-19. Doesn't matter how efficient the Chinese government seems in this covid-19 situation, The Chinese government won't do too much better than the US government if they are ruling USA, simply because people are educated differently. The problem with the current democratic system in the west is that since social media become so important, political candidates must promote him through this platform which makes populism bloom. The people got voted are mostly opportunists which driven into more populism, and the death circle began. Therefore, decisions are made with attitude than critical thinking. As a Chinese, I am very pessimistic about the relationship between US and China in the future. In addition, there is one important country the interviewer didn't notice and surprised me during the pandemic, India. India has far less resources and infrastructures to combat this virus, yet in terms of infection rate India have 4-6 times less than most Western countries.
Just to be clear that US shall not try to "create " China as the enemy but accepting China just their competitor only. Why not work together to make the better world instead craete the tension among each other. Even China have different government system but don't means thats they've bad instead & in fact that China citizens having same freedom as democracy countries & shall see the current China communist government has changed a lot & a good leadership shall maintain & being proved doing better. But democracy on each new election just corrupted one by one.
China must not behave like 'a bully' turning Asia into 'a battle ground' by upsetting the social political of any country. For example, if we trade with Germany must we must learn the German's language? The actual problem is China's 1.3 billion population to feed. There is why Singapore policy of 2 is enough in family planning. If, you import more, you owe more. If, you export more, you earn more. Clear cut of where is 'a win-win' situation? More IOU will be putting a country at a higher risk of being 'colonised' by China.
From ‘12 ~ ‘16, USA was Singapore’s largest FDI. From ‘13 ~ ‘17, Singapore was PRC’s largest FDI. Everybody works for the same bosses. Under different local HR departments.
In reality, official policy consistency is not a strong part of every democratic political system, so expecting US trade policy in any region remain unchanged over the course of time is highly unlikely to happen, it is just natural. 🧐
1. On what basis to say that the past US president is not putting America first? 2. Outsourcing cheap labor to china is US corporates decision. In very early days, US outsourcing many of their products made in HK, Taiwan and Singapore way back in 80s and 90s. After some years, due to these region costs are too expensive, then they move it to Malaysia and Thailand, then later to China. It is the matter of time that these US companies will move out from China (already started) and going to a much lower cost regions such as India, Cambodia, Vietnam. When these region costs are too high, they will move to Africa continent. Do you think that these US companies are moving back to US? Can US labor cost be able to compete with Asia regions in order to sustain the same or lower operating cost? If yes, why are they moving out from US in the first place? In conclusion, there is no turning back clock, if they pull out from China, they will go somewhere else instead of going back to US. This trend is inevitable and it will continue on. So, should China blaming Vietnam, India or Cambodia for taking away their jobs? Come on, let's be realistic and practical, and face the reality in life.
He is lucky in the sense that he inherited the practical mentality from his father.... when one is practical, one can solve problem efficiently. in terms of intelligence, he is far behind from his father...

From what and how America and it's allies so to contain China we can see very clear that thwy don't like any Asian countries get to the same level as they have gain for decades although it comes from colonizing Asian or African countries. What happened to Japan decades ago also happens to China now but China is a different story that's what make them mad. They think their superiority cannot and must not be challenged
A very Important point which I believe in profusely is that, when it comes to China and only china, China plays economic growth of its country and also helps in other countries' economy lest the manufacturing economy. Singapore is a country where it cannot become a self sustaining economy without a supporting larger economy such as China. China does a lot of trade to the rest of the world by having a outlet through Singapore and other such nations. So, I believe Singaporeans would want status quo in trade as long as there is no boundary dispute. Now, on the Chinese side, they believe in economic coercion, which time and again it has played out. Chinese wants to the play the greater good cause in economy of the world while stamping out the democratic ways of the time and in the world of this time. Who knows if China has its way US also adopts similar approach of abolishing term limits of Presidents.. economics & politics are intertwined and not much different from any governance system in the grass root level.

Why should China buy from enemy? Australia is behaving like a thug. Sellers not happy when buyers refuse to buy.

What is China's greatest sin: She can give you cheap products which hurt the business interest of Developed countries. They want to gain larger profit in a short period. The cost of Insulin per bottle is six dollar . But USA want to sell it at 300 dollar/per bottle. whereas Canada can give you the same product at 32 dollar. China can give you the same product at 20 to 25 dollar. So they want to control china from the world business . What is subside? That is cost of the product is much more than the selling prize . Govt of China give the companies the difference of cost price and selling price+ 10% profit. If any country starts giving this subsides in every products than the country will be so poor that they cannot do anything. It is an absurd proposition.

For many reasons, LHL is the leader I respect the most among all world leaders. For example, before China’s Wuhan lockdown SP hosted a forum of many vaccine efforts from many companies & institutions around the world (aired on youtube). And they quickly adapted & implemented effective policies that controlled outbreaks at minimal damage to economy & society. His perspective implies a very rough future. China is already a tough negotiator and is constrained knowing they are not ready for a serious clash of empires. Imagine how tough balanced give-and-take cooperation will become when China feels ready for a serious confrontation.
If only SG has the creativity needed to develop the vaccines. SG would be richer than Rich. I suggest buying the vaccine companies and giving citizenship to the vaccine developers. This is one way SG can say it's made in Singapore. Recall ping-pong Olympic gold medalists were born in China and gvien citizenship
For years, USA recognised Singapore as an " Authoritative " country instead of democratic country. Fortunately, Singapore is a tiny " Red dot " on the world map. Otherwise, USA would has gave Singapore a hard times long ago. Now, USA is attempting to " recruit democratic " 50 members into trades partnership to " combat " China rise for the good of America ( again American First )! @@tokking7836 Of course, LHL and Singaporeans will need to put Singapore interests first! It depend on how USA plays it card. If USA insisted on " choosing a side " ( though Singapore wants to be neutral ) and wants Singapore open its port for USA navy/military present ( though Singapore only allow up to 4 naval ships) ...... and using trade sanction as a threat onto Singapore ( definitely an act of bully and dictatorship and international lawlessness by USA )......... knowing America First mentality and white supremacy and Singapore experience with United Kingdom in colonial times ( UK withdrawn its troop in Singapore during Japanese invasion). What happen if USA decide to be " friend " with China for its benefits after Singapore commitment to be on USA side later? What will be Singapore relationship with China then? Knowing USA shown history of bullying / betraying its close allies ( EU, Eye countries and Asian countries include Taiwan, India, Australia etc). Singaporeans will need to assess their interests carefully as a sovereign nation and values and be prepared to accept the consequences of its decision. No one or country can dictate Singapore decision indeed! Bottom line is: what do Singaporeans wants under this circumstances ? Hopefully, this situation will never take place? Food for thoughts: Why is Philippine stopping continuous USA navy present in its country? Why are Asian countries ( Except Japan and Australia ) rejecting USA navy / military present too? Will Singapore be subjected to missiles attack as a result of large scale US navy present? Could Singaporeans accept and not blaming China if it happened?
@@snowysu4291 Ultimately, ALL countries prioritise their own national interests. It will be an idiotic government that doesn’t. That’s why despite the US putting pressure on countries not to sign the RCEP which features China as the biggest power within, even 2 of the 5 eye countries (Australia and NZ) signed up. It’s every country for itself, especially when they realised the US is not a very reliable partner.
India has far less resources and infrastructures to combat this virus, yet in terms of infection rate India have 4-6 times less than most Western countries.

in a nutshell, Asia and the world won't let the US throw a wrench in Asia& global trade
In a nutshell, Singapore is hiding under US umbrella
He’s very careful when criticizing Trump. A wise politician indeed.
B'cos he knew the Trump phenomenon is beyond Trump himself. With latter gone from the WH, the former hangs on.
Credit to Bloomberg for a proper bloke asking proper questions
Globalism is dying. Singapore better learn to be self reliant when it comes to agriculture.
From ‘12 ~ ‘16, USA was Singapore’s largest FDI. From ‘13 ~ ‘17, Singapore was PRC’s largest FDI. Everybody works for the same bosses. Under different local HR departments.
An excellent interview! PM Lee makes Singapore 🇸🇬 look good!
In reality, official policy consistency is not a strong part of every democratic political system, so expecting US trade policy in any region remain unchanged over the course of time is highly unlikely to happen, it is just natural. 🧐
Brilliant prime minister/ diplomat. Very polished & intelligent.
It’s no wonder that Singapore is so successful. Singapore has wise leaders and right thinking citizens. Maju lah Singapura👋👋👋💪💪💪

NOONE IN SINGAPORE WORRIES ABOUT ANYTHING

Food for thoughts: How many Asian countries are 100 % democratic?
Righteousu Su Don’t u want LHL to put SG first? Or better he put China first?
The US will find few countries willing to join a coalition against China because China is a major trading partner for many countries. Would you pick a fight with your biggest customer?
