Excellent! She is knowledgeable not only as an academic (economics), but also brings the historical background, cultural background, and the nuances of on the ground reality vs perception that's mostly shaped by media. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to understand China's economic difficulties today, and its potential.

Thank you to the respected President Xi, Premier LiQiang together for the thoughtful and engaging conversation with Keyu Jin, hosted by the Wheeler Institute at London Business School. It was an insightful discussion on China's evolving strategy, and I appreciate the support from the China Club and the Sui Foundation for making it possible.

Companies from various provinces and cities across China are engaged in fierce competition. This intense internal rivalry ensures that only the most successful will emerge to compete on the global stage.

Since Hoover was prospecting in China, the USA has desired resources from that region.
Since the downfall of the British Empire, the lifestyle of British Investors has diminished.
The end of Empires appears to have arrived?
The ability to exploit backwater regions of the Planet,
seem to have gone away as has the ability to profit from that exploitation.
The World is becoming informed, as Kids in Kabul have Smart Phones.
The ability to supply the West, or the G-7 nations,
with resources that can be converted to profits,
    has apparently ended.
This is an entirely new Ball Game.....
    Will Money become extinct?
    Can we live without Capitalism?

Prof Richard Wolff says capitalism as practiced today, is causing the problems of the world.

Down with capitalism IF WE EVER GET IT. Actual capitalism would include cradle to grave costs including raw materials to recycling or disposal in the initial cost. Our current system is a perverted form of socialism that exclusively benefits short term profits for a handful of dark money individuals at the expense of the biosphere, source of all life.

    • @danielhutchinson6604

@@BobQuigley We can abandon that Social System by simply the process of participating in a method to agree,
that Capitalism has exceeded it's limitations.
Humans do have the social responsibility to future generations,
      to allow their existence.

For a perfect economy, I don't think pure socialism or pure capitalism can work. It has to be balanced between the two extremes. Most times, our government disguises the truth of the two forms of government for the benefits of the elites individuals, the politicians.

Generally interesting and very positive. One relatively small issue. Tesla was absolutely not on the verge of bankruptcy when it was invited into China. China invited Tesla in and gave them extraordinary benefits. One of these was allowing Tesla to be the only foreign car maker that did not have to partner with a Chinese company. Tesla was invited in because the Chinese EV makers were not producing very good cars and the hope was that competition from Tesla would spur them on to be more competitive. That worked in spades. Chinese EV makers are now stiff competition for Tesla and world leaders in EVs - along with Tesla.

I can see a few students seems uninterested in the session browsing their handphones and laptops throughout. Wonder why they are there if they are not interested. It’s so disrespectful to the speakers.
