MaGMML3 - Armory Catastrophe 5 Shots

  • Here's Level of the Week 7, Armory Catastrophe. The special category this week is Buster Breakdown which is a category in which you aim to complete the stage in as few shots as possible. A pacifist category. As far as I know, this is the lowest amount of shots for this stage. We use 1 shot to make a chicken light a rope on fire, 1 shot for the first Dracon Ride Armour midboss, 1 shot for the second, and 2 shots on Neko Man.
    So that first shot. The chicken can't turn around to shoot a fire at the rope behind it. We do need that rope gone to progress in this stage so the only thing we can do is burn it ourselves with Lantern Flare or attack the chicken and make it light the rope on fire with its death attack. The latter is faster so that's what I go with. Tornado Blow used to count as 4 shots in older versions, but after some begging, I managed to get it to count as 1 shot. Thunder Beam was also lowered from 3 shots to 1. In any case, Tornado Blow is probably the fastest way to kill the chicken. If Tornado Blow hadn't been buffed, we probably would've used a Spark Chaser which is a lot slower, but still faster than going up to the rope to kill it with Lantern Flare.
    Both Dracon Ride Armours can be killed in a single Rec Can. You can't shoot to bounce it around, but sliding into Rec Can to punt it into them doesn't incur a shot. The Dracon Ride Armours have two different patterns they can choose from. One where they stay at the right side and attack for a bit and another where they move to the left and then start attacking. I thiiink the one where they stay at the right side is faster, but I think it's a lot harder to get it right. You need the Rec Can to explode before the Dracon Ride Armour starts moving to the left and you don't have a lot of time for that.
    Neko Man has the misfortune to be weak to the meta weapon of this category, Water Shield. One Water Shield bubble does 3 damage and a full Water Shield would represent 24 damage. Expanding the Water Shield doesn't count as a shot too thankfully so my accidental panic expansion here didn't incur an extra shot. One Water Shield isn't enough to kill him so we have to go for two. Honestly good because if the margins were closer, this would've been a real annoying fight. But thankfully we only need 10/16 Water Shield particles to hit. This fight isn't completely free though. You do need to dodge Neko Man's attacks that create projectiles. So that's his shuriken throw, his kunai throw, and his dive kick.
    As for the rest of the stage, it's actually pretty hard. Buster Breakdown can't do any unnecessary killing so we end up having to damage boost through a lot of things. You'll end up taking a ton of damage in this stage. It's also made a little harder because we have to take the Dracon Ride Armour to make some jumps without utilities and that comes with a larger hitbox. Expect to chug a decent amount of E Tanks.
    You'll notice I fall through the platform that shows that you can cut the rope with the Dracon Ride Armour. For some reason you can get Magnet Beam bugged by that platform. You just slide into the wall. It's very inconsistent, but it does save a lot of time. Ground pounding with the Dracon Ride Armour incurs a shot so the alternative is to stand there and let the Dracon Ride Armour's presence cut the rope.
    This run is the first 5 shot run on the leaderboard. For improvements, at 0:35, I damage boost a fire from a chicken. If you time it right, you can do a back boost and land on the platform with the chicken instead. This does save like half a second and it's very satisfying. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to do. I think there's a lot about my second half of the stage that could be improved too. I feel like I just got knocked around a lot. All the damage I took was intentional, but I think the way I followed up on the damage boosts weren't very good. Lastly, I think my Neko Man fight wasn't great. He did a lot of bad attacks and Water Shield was just being a bad weapon.
