It was impossible to keep the wheels on the ground in first if the road was wet, so in that case, I would sometimes have to pull away in third. If you rebuild that engine; you’ll be amazed. Mine had a 145mph speedo and I pegged beyond it twice. Once was racing a Corvette at 2:00AM out of the Mid-Cities, east toward Grand Prairie near DFW Airport. We were playing cat and mouse at 120mph. A cop was under an overpass. The Corvette stabbed his brakes and dropped behind me as if he had been shot backwards like an arrow from a bow. Dumbass. I pedaled to the metal and took Valley View off 183 into GP At way over 145mph. I was gone. Poor Corvette. 😢 Circa 1990.
I had an 84 and still wish I had it. Drove really nice and gas not bad for a 305. Yeah, they weren't that fast during that time because of the governmental regulations, but how fast are you really going to drive in the USA? These are great driving cars and nice design. Cars now are too overpriced, so I'll be looking for a nice old Trans Am or Mustang that is in good shape when I get ready to buy my next one. I prefer the simplicity of these cars instead of having to deal with all the electronics that will certainly break on the newer cars.
I had a brown/gold 84 h.o. years ago. I gave nearly nothing for it and the converter was stopped up(I found out on the way home from buying it). After a little TLC, it turned out to be a great car. I had the 5 speed too. I think the 5 speed came with the 3:73 rear end ... it was geared pretty low. I wish I had the car back. I was young when I had it, and didn't even take a single picture of it. I later had 2 85' h.o.'s, an 87', and a 90' GTA. The 84 was not as nice as any of the others, but it was more 'raw', and was more fun to drive. Nice to see your car!
Hey, I just discovered your video here and watched it to check out another video of the trans am "driving experience" from an inside the car view.. As i watching it i became really concerned about the fact that you kept turning your face over to your right to look into the camera while you were driving!!! : / Several times, an oncoming car or suv passed you very quickly while you had just turned your face to look into the camera!! You were very lucky in those seconds, there was no fatal collisions! seriously, you have to stop doing that. all it takes is one second of you taking your eyes off the road and POW! And with no air bag in your car? you definitely would have gotten seriously hurt if not killed! SERIOUSLY! SAFETY ALWAYS FIRST! you said at the end of this video that you didnt think you were that good at vlogging? But if your intention was to make a video showing what its like to be sitting in the trans am and driving in it? YOU SUCCEEDED! but just drive and talk when you do it. there was no need to look into the camera while you were driving. The viewers understand that you have to keep your eyes on the road, especially when you are opening up the engine. BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD ALL THE TIME YOU ARE OPERATING ANY CAR! and you cant just be aware of what you are doing when you drive, you have to be aware of what other people are doing to, while they are driving towards you! you never know if someone might be not paying attention themselves, or if they are intoxicated or what? and they can drive right into you! AND IT ONLY TAKES A SECOND TO HAPPEN! : / So please understand this, and drive safely always! ( if you think im being too "dramatic" about this? just look at the national statistics each year for fatal car accidents and the average ages of all the victims! google it! ) The only other complaint i have about this video is the low mic volumes. it was a little difficult to hear what you were saying, BECAUSE THE MIC VOLUME WAS LOW ON YOUR CAMERA! I did have my volume at its highest to hear you, but it was coming from the video.. So just check that before you record next time.. But other than that, it was a good video, and you seem like a nice person and i thought it was a good video. I also wanted to say some more things to you though, based on things you said in this video about your car.. First, i want to respond to your thoughta about "Cars of the 80s being shitty" : / yeahh, there may have been a collective cut in horsepower during the 80s. BUT!!! have you seen all the different cool cars of the 80s??? : / just look at the trans ams, firebirds, gtas, the pontiac fiero, the ford mustang 5.0 , the buick grand nationals, the oldsmobile cutless 442/hurst, the chevy impala super sport, the monte carlos super sport, the dodge daytona, the chevy camaros and iroc z, the porsche 944 , the corvette, I was a teenager in the 80s and i can tell you all the kids had these cars. They were all over and they were cool! Look at the boy designs, and the electronics, and they were all fun to drive too. I think all cars have much more potential than when they come out of the manufacturing plants. that is done on purpose to keep all the after market suppliers and mechanics working! : / But if you compare the camaros of today with the camaros of the 80s? yes, the 2020 camaro is much faster, BUT IT DOESNT LOOK AS COOL, And ALL THE ELECTRONICS IN IT MAKE IT AN UNRELIABLE CAR. Which is true for all the modern cars. There is too much computers and electronics controlling the car.. when those computers have a problem you cant use the car until you fix it. Where as the earlier cars were all easier to operate and maintain! we dont need foot massagers and automatic driving or internet or selective suspension or selective transmission options in all of our cars!!! Sports cars are sports cars. trucks are trucks.. they serve two different purposes and they are made for those specific purposes.. you cant have an all in one. it doesnt work that way.. you will always be losing something you need to for something else you want.. or have a little of each in one.. all wheel drive! but you are not going to get a race car into a an offroad vechicle or an off road vehicle ina race car! they are complete opposites. So i like the old cars better! ( with modifications ) : ) the last thing i wanted to say to you, based on this video here, is you kept saying how much you loved your trans am, even though you also kept noting all of its flaws! : / it is obvious you are attached to the car and you enjoy it and want to keep driving it!! So stop make excuses for the car! FIX IT! GET IN PERFECT RUNNING CONDITION, SPECIFIC TO HOW YOU WOULD LIKE IT TO BE!!! AND DRIVE AND ENJOY IT! THATS IT!! ITS THAT SIMPLE! make all the repairs and modifications as you can afford to, drive it everyday and enjoy it. Its a cool car! but you have to fix it and modify some things. Thats all. its not so hard. and within a year or two? it can literally be your dream car! I would also strongly remcommed getting performance front seats for yourself and your passenger!!!! if you look at this video? you will see that you are too big for those seats in it rightnow.. And you have the back of your front seat stretched all the way back, which is going to cause you sever back and spinal injury! Which will then cause several other physical and healthy problems for you!!!! So invest in an appropriate performance and back health supportive set of front seats!!! That should be first! If you are going to be driving it everyday? while you are making the other modifications to the trans am? And dont worry about keeping it stock! All cars are not suitable for everyone, stock! we should all be making modifications to our cars, if we really love them and want to keep and enjoy them! . .........
