Wow , great trip in the “way back machine”. In August of 1984 I walked into Kole Pontiac in Oak Lawn IL and bought that exact car of the showroom floor, I believe I paid $13,600 for it. I traded in my RX7 and drove the Trans Am out of the dealer with the T Tops off and Rick James “Cold Blooded” blasting on the stereo. Just a great car and a lot of fond memories, thank you for posting
Fantastic car. I picked up a 84 Trans Am, red with silver trim. 5 years ago right after I retired out of the Army. Original numbers matching car. Love these 3rd Gen F-body’s.
I would say big thanks for sharing this video. This is my favourite car since i was 15, now i am almost 40 and I love much more Trans-Am then before.Living in Europe in normal days its only a dream...but maybe sometimes the dream comes true.Thank you!
Just noticed the wheels... similar to 13" ones on my '85 Fiero... didn't know that style came on Firebirds... very rarely seen on Fieros... although might be base wheel...
Nice TA. I had a Torch Red 84 with a 82 Corvette 350 4 bolt main engine and T4 5 speed. Best fun I ever had. Yours is awesome. Show quality right there.🏁🇺🇸
lol plan jane camaro ...nice try lil sister.....The firebird Trans am ....was always faster in the quarter mile stock .... google is free lmao ...camaro ugly an plane as sin .....Firebird was the mans version of Camaro ....camaro is a ladys car all day long lol
I had an 84 exactly like this but no aero package. Same colors. I had the 5 speed 305 which was a carburetor only. I was looking at Camaro Z28’s at the time and seeing how bad they looked finish wise I decided to look at the Trans Ams, and I saw a big difference in fit and finish. It is much more of a beautiful car.
at least you did it willingly, my dad had mine towed away while I was looking for a new motor for it after I let my cousin drive it and he went into the ditch.
My dad's friend had one back in the day he bought it brand new.. A manual one.. He lost it to the banks could not keep up with the payments. . he ended up selling it but it had the exact same color combo .. Bad ass got crazy stares when I father took me out on it when I was like 7 years old.
She's absolutely gorgeous. A clean third gen will turn heads all day long. I have a 89 Formula with ttops if been restoring. Don't let the rain get in the cowl induction. Congratulations on owning a fine example of a classic third gen F body. 😍
Wow this is a beautiful bird. Look at the paint shine! Very well polished. Love it! But I have to say, the leather bag in the trunk for the T-Top panels is upside down. It's important that the bag with glass panels lay on top of the straps, not under it!
really nice car man! although not my personal favorite generation of the TransAm, still giving props when due. mine is the last year of the big block option 1979 and just wished it was done by now. anyhoo..very nice Pontiac brother!
It boggles my mind that these cars were faster than what the speedometer indicated and the horsepower was said to be at 185,sure the government in the early 80s told the American automotive industry tune down horsepower due to EPA regulations but I think in many ways there was more horsepower than what was regulated by the government, maybe around the numbers of a modern V6 engine of today.
I bought 12 in August 1984 blue metallic Royal blue 42803 miles.Original roar just needs a little t l c t tops five speed 305 at high output all the bells and whistles
I had this black 1984 from 1990-2000. I sold it to contribute capital for getting married and buying my first house. Except all the gold was removed and it was all blacked out. Also, it was the H/O 5-spd, not the bullshit automatic. It had the 3:73 posi-trac. I bought it in Dallas from an Italian for $4k. Idk what he had done to this car, but it was way faster than it should’ve been. I was 23yo and it might’ve well have been a Corvette to me. Maybe better... Oh ya, and I had the gold honeycomb wheels. They were nice looking, but a bitch to keep clean.
Even stock, that engine managed to get that car in the high 6 second range for 0-60, almost identical to the Corvette of that year. Having a good gear ratio and a 5 speed made the difference. Still impressive since it was only rated at 190hp. I had a 83, only 150 hp and an automatic, and that thing was a SLUG. Despite putting a Flowmaster exhaust to help, that car was getting beat by oversized T-birds from the late 70s. All show and no go! I almost bought a 84 Z28 with the same engine and 5-speed as your TA....still kicking myself for going for the 83 TA instead.
I had the same car, sometimes referred to as a 1984 and a half. It was a mid year introduction, which came with the full skirts and probably other stuff. I bought it in 1986, with 30,000 km. I've never seen those rims before, as mine came with the Turbo Rally Deep Dish rims. The upgraded motor was the 5.7l V8, as opposed to the rather wheezy 305. Oh, and mine was a 5 speed Seriously, the car was a money pit.
At the time, Pontiac was using multiple sources for parts. I needed a brake master cylinder at one time. I waa asked about 10 different features to ensure I got the correct one out of 3 possibilities. I always seemed to need the most expensive ones. Constant issues with the carburetor. A/C never worked properly. Rear calipers seized, even though I always used my Emergency Brake. $1000 CDN for 2 calipers. That was around 1990.
Wow, you’re really clueless aren’t you? First of all, W62 was available at the start of the 1984 model year. It was not a mid-year offering. 37,689 out of 55,374 Trans Ams were equipped with W62 in 1984. Second, the N24 wheels were VERY common, especially on the 1982-1983 cars. They were used on 14,529 US destined Trans Ams, 878 Trans Ams destined for Canada. Lastly, there were ABSOLUTELY NO 350 CARS whatsoever until 1987.
Those w62 ground effects were also on the 1983 Daytona edt Trans Am's as well as every 84 15th Anniversary edt Trans Am. While the 350 was introduced until the 1987 model year, NO 350 car was ever backed by a manual transmission.
Dad bought an 84 when it was new. It didn't come with the aero / skirt package so didn't look as good as this. Plus it had different wheels and I remember they were silver instead of gold, which was weird, almost like the car was cobbled together. I distinctly recall wrecking it and shortly there after he bought an 88 gta with the 350 engine which was night and day different than this car. But it was cool for the time.
I had an 84 Trans Am in Dark Metallic Blue. I bought it used in the late 80's. It was the best car and the worst car. But that low rumble sure sounds familiar
Hey Andrew, good luck, rust is the biggest culprit on these old third gens, the drivetrain is straight forward, much easier to repair than cancer (rust).
@@blitjen1 how about the fire bird on the hood, I’m talking to a guy now that has a 86 all stock except gas tank, but no bird on hood he said that didn’t come with in 86?! Do you know much about or can you point me into the direction where I can find out more information!?
It's a shame that they didn't have enough of Michael Long in the normal normal version of this car as seen... 😐😐 It was like ruined as soon as michael knight and kitt was invented. Should have had more story on michael long in this version of the car..😉👍

Very cool, thanks for sharing your memory..
My 2016 Ford focus costs around that price. I'd rather have the trans am in a heartbeat!
When I got of the Army in 73, I went to Cole Pontiac to try and buy a 73 GTO.
its called a TIME MACHINE not a way back machine that's a stupid name come on guys you can do better that
My 83 was almost exactly the same, but brown and tan interior. From Grossinger in Skokie or Lincolnwood.
Fantastic car. I picked up a 84 Trans Am, red with silver trim. 5 years ago right after I retired out of the Army. Original numbers matching car. Love these 3rd Gen F-body’s.
One of the all-time greats, matter fact, it's my favorite 80's car!
Wow this is a beautiful time capsule brings me back to the knight rider days
So rare to see one of these in its original condition. Cherish and maintain this treasure.
wish I could pop back into the 80’s.
Buy one of these, put on Van Halen and you’re there.
Beautiful! Not many left like this
Absolutely beautiful Trans Am !! Love the black and gold !!

nice. brings me back. I had an 83 and then the 1984 15th anniversary one. Miss them both but esp the 15th anniversary one.
Still looks amazing in 2023. 😮😮
Great video, awesome Trans Am,brings back memories of when my dad bought his brand new when I was six years old.
Those wheels were the rarest on 84 Trans Ams. Almost all cars with those wheels had the WS6.
Aren't those the std wheels on the 82? Wait a minute. I think the 82s were black, and flat in the middle. Never mind.
Rarer still was the bowling ball rims. They were a special order but could only be had in 14” for 84. Very few opted for them on the Trans Am.
Just noticed the wheels... similar to 13" ones on my '85 Fiero... didn't know that style came on Firebirds... very rarely seen on Fieros... although might be base wheel...
still beautiful...🤗🥰
What a Beautiful example. Thanks for sharing 👍
Nice! Cool 80s Design and Collectors item.
Beautiful car! Love my Trans-ams. It looks mean with the orange lights. The Black and Gold makes it popping!!
I wish I can marry that car. Beautiful.

I miss my 86, only difference was TPI and mine had the leather interior. A week after I sold it a drunk driver totaled it, luckily no one was hurt.

It's the knightrider car before it was turned into kitt in season 1 when it was michael long. 😉👍
Back in 93 my friend and I crashed this car on a good night of partying lol
what problems should i expect with a less fancy but still pretty good car (looking to buy one)
I would say rust is the biggest threat, all mechanical aspects can be found & fixed, rust (cancer) is usually the ultimate killer of these F bodies..
Brent Litjen thanks for the info man i’ll keep that in mind
