My Model A was converted to seal beams, it charges 7 during the day, 0 at night on low beam, and minus 3 on high beam. Its has thee 6volt original generator.
I’m currently rebuilding a 31 Model A and don’t have lights yet, so I would like to push the 3rd brush all the way up to see what kind of charge rate I get. Do I need to be careful not to push it up to where it contacts the brush above or can I just push it up until it stops? Thanks!
It is possible to push it up against the power brush. So look closely as you do. Also Don't run it for long like this, and don't expect the dash ammeter to give an accurate reading.
I have LED lights that flicker, I'm on my 2nd set. This time I purchased the focused beam LED and they also flicker. Did you have this problem? I'm thinking I might bring the amperage up a hair. 6V Pos ground.
I have no flickering with my LED headlights. Fkickering is usually caused by poor grounding. I made sure the headlight bucket to bar and bar to fender coneection points were clean and shiny, and put a thin film of dialectric grease at each point. I also have an extra ground cable from frame to trans.
No reason to. The original ford cutouts are very high quality and work great when properly serviced. I do this work too. Look at my video on servicing cutouts.
Thank you very much for this. I had no idea this adjustment was so simple. You helped me a lot with my model A.
Good to know this man is on it the (3)brush is a good idea plane and simple if you want to (tinker) 😊
Excellent explanation. Thanks
Excellent. Thanks!
I have a 1932 Chrysler with the same setup And this is very helpful

Excellent content. Thanks as I need to adjust that second brush.
Third brush
Great video
Great demonstration. Our ammeter shows 2-3 during daytime driving (no lights or horn). Seems low from what the Red book says. Not sure why.
For a car that is driven regularly, 2 - 3 amps is fine. Think of it as a trickle charger.

Use a diode in the cutout...
