Steve where did you get the centerfire block? I have a Stevens 44 in 25 Stevens RF and a Stevens 44 in 25-20SS. Can I swap the 25-20SS block and use it in the .25 Stevens RF with Rocky Mountain 25-20 Stevens centerline brass? Is it that simple?

I remember this turning up as Tubbs' backup gun a couple of times on Miami Vice. Whilst I wouldn't necessarily recommend for primary carry, I'd say having it as a backup in a convenient place would still be very handy. Wouldn't mind seeing the round vs a ballistic dummy sometime just to see what kind of performance one can expect.

Hi Steve, great video, fascinating carbine. It looks like you're getting a lot of blowback from the breech area when you fire. Is that leakage around the .22 blank? Case not expanding due to low pressure load? I can understand keeping pressures low because I think the split breech design doubles the force on the breech block pin, unlike the later rolling block design.

What a cool piece of vintage test equipment! This is an example of something used in an era of actually fixing things, not just removing the old one and bolting on a new one, like we do today (in the first world). It's in amazing condition, especially considering it's almost 100 years old.

Hello Steve, Cabot here again, I noticed that on the brush you removed that the holder would look like it is meant for a CCW armature rotation even though the application is CW. My 3 brush Autolite GCJ-4801 for a ‘41 Willys confused me because the main brush holders were also like yours but the 3rd brush holder was oriented in the expected direction to better support the brush. I checked Auto-lite service Parts catalog and all are as listed. I also have a question related to Autolite three brush generator which is off topic, it has a spring clamp to hold the third brush holder my manual does not say how tight to tighten the screw on the spring clamp but if I were to tighten it down I doubt one would be able to adjust the 3rd brush without removing the endcap

I converted my 10/22 the same as you did, refinished stock, Tech 200 sights, sling and oiler, magazine extension, and I love it. One other modification I did, I purchased a bolt handle extension on Ebay from JWH Custom to replace the stock Ruger handle for about 25 bucks. It was an improvement both in use and appearance. This rifle is so fun, good looking, and accurate to shoot. Thanks for the video.

I am amazed that you could make a rimfire using a .22 acorn blank with such a tiny brass case. You are the man. Are you by any chance of Swiss ancestry ?

It’s not real hard to jacket pull and make rimfires. There primed with the white part of a strike anywhere match. A pile of them are wetted down and ground into a paste then while damp use a tooth pick to pack the rim. Let them dry then load powder and lead. Never had one fail to go off. The casing is made of flat piece of brass cut into a round disk and pressed through a series of dies. The brass gets annealed every third die. I use a toaster oven. I got a black powder 22 long long I make ammo for. Learned on TH-cam. Think they were making 22LR but the idea is the same. It is a little work but not to bad if you ever wanna try the real deal the way it was then check it out. Might be under drawn casings.

Hello Steve, I’m finally assembling my ‘41 Willys Auto-lite generator. I was going to use an open ball bearing but I see my NOS armature does not have the part that slides over and up against the shaft snap ring that the inner felt slides on. If this was on my old armature I lost it when I sent it to a shop for a quote to rewind. Have you seen anyone selling this part, I assume it also sets axial placement of the armature since the bearing is pressed up to it.

I discovered the problem was a loose ground wire on the field. It’s charging now and puts out enough current but only at fast idle.

I converted my 34 Ford truck to a positive ground and installed a 12 volt regulator. The generator passes the run test but still doesn’t charge. I’ve replaced the regulator and still no luck. Can you help?

I wanted to know if I sent you my cut out , how much you would charge to go thru it and set it up correctly. It is already a Terne finish so I don't need any refinishing done. It has been sitting awhile and may just be corroded. My friend took a photo of your table at Chickasha this year but I can't make out all the numbers of your phone. Pre TH-cam I found a paper online detailing converting Low-wall 1885 .32 Rimfire to centerfire. It worked well. I rented the tools and converted to 32-20. Luckily TH-cam wasn't around to tell me not to do it. Maybe you know the author of the paper. Written in the 1930's as I recall. I had a 45-70 rolling block Remington rifle 45-70 Shortened to the length of a 1894 Carbine for saddle scabbard use. Added a cheekpiece later. The rolling blocks are fun. I see several guys using green loctite to secure the threaded screw in the rimfire hole before drilling a centerfire hole. I used solder as suggested in the paper. The trick is carbide bits for the case hardened block. You don't want to heat the block enough to disturb the loctite or solder ..or affect the heat treatment. Thanks. I found a source for multiple re-sharpened carbide bits at a reasoble price and only broke three of them. :)

If I want to unhook the 3 wires on the output side of the cutout for some reason, say electrical troubleshooting, and I want to run the engine, which wire should be grounded temporarily? The red???? And what is happening inside the generator that makes this work, how is this protecting the generator?
