5:00 Edit based on the replies - HAGS may cause issues as it is a relatively new feature, it's also a big no no for VR streamers so if that's you, ignore me :) Original - RE the GPU overloading, if you're a fellow Windows 11 user like myself and have a relatively modern GPU (probably about GTX 10** series and up), look into enabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS). It better allows Windows allocate GPU resources between applications so you won't end up with one application sucking all the GPU power (i.e the game you're playing) and leaving other applications (i.e OBS) without any to do what it needs to do. I've found games like Apex Legends, Super People and Warzone all completely ruin my system even with a 2080 Ti, so if you don't fancy fiddling with finding an FPS cap that works for each and every new game you play, enabling HAGS might be the "one fix to rule them all" that you're looking for
@@Swindy No, it just gives OBS GPU 'scheduling priority' from what I understand - it basically gets enough GPU power to do what it needs to do before things that aren't ran as administrator.
Pertinent point to me around the 06:00 mark! My stream is heavily animation and effect orientated and I have (or had) hundreds of sources. I was getting GPU overload last week and after some digging realised that my over ambition on this front was my downfall! As you say, OBS is catering for all the sources whether they're visible or not. I'm a StreamerBot user and I'm in the process of massively reducing the number of sources (typically WebM's and sound files) that I have in my various nested scenes by getting StreamerBot to change the source file of between 1 and 4 sources in OBS as and when they're actually needed by different queues of actions. Needless to say - although I'm only say around a third of the way through reconfiguring things, I'm already seeing the positive effects on my stream. Reduced CPU and GPU usage - and no crashes! Also great point about browser sources. For rather daft reasons (I'm not a techy!), I'd previously had several browser sources in different scenes doing similar things like showing User images for banimations etc. Now, I just have one in a nested scene that others then go on to use = significant improvement in memory usage. When looking at OBS in task manager this was the first thing that stood out like a sore thumb with browsers clearly consuming memory when they weren't even visible in OBS
@@JamesLundquist yep absolutely - ticking close files when inactive, unload images when not showing etc etc is top advice. Regardless. If you have say 100 potential sources that 'could' be shown in a scene, OBS has to cater for the fact that they could be shown. This is not the same as unloading them. Essentially, I'm on a weaker pc and by enormously reducing the complexity of my scene collection, I've greatly improved the efficacy of my OBS. I've actually finished now and after a few revisions I've cut down my number of effected sources from 442 to 6 (that's a couple of browser sources for user images, 2 media sources, 2 image sources). CPU usage when I stream has now plummeted to 15%, 25% max and to say it's running smoother is a serious understatement!!
Never had an issue with my streaming system till recently. Halfway through my broadcast I'd look over to my obs and realise its frozen and disconnected from Twitch without me knowing. Think il run that analyser u mention and see whats going on.
Just wanted to add that the dynamic bitrate option in OBS is Amazing. I've used this option when doing IRL livestreams and it keeps the video super smooth with no drops.
