The Bleeding Heart Cardinals and the little canaries were brought over to Hawaii by 19th century settlers who missed the birds of their homelands. The Kolea or Golden Plover is a native, but in summer it migrates toAlaska to mate & raise chicks. It returns in Fall to the same patch of ground every year. There is a group that watches for its return each year. My friend has had 3 that return yearly for a decade. They leave the nestlings after 1 month. The babies wait another month to mature and then they fly to Hawaii. These birds migrate singly and in one flight. The white tern or fairly tern is
also a native. They lay their one egg on a bare branch. When hatched, the adults bring the tiny minnows that are at the ocean edge and the babies have to figure out how to get them turned the right way and down the hatch. We had a tern family for several years running in a tree down Prince Edward Street from our hotel and we enjoyed each year watching them. If you see a fledgeling on the ground, the parent is around keeping watch & bringing food. Don't think you have to rescue it. Kudos to your recommendation for the Barefoot Bar. We love it. The aquarium is right next door & the zoo is across the street. You can snorkel and it is pretty good. From Oakland CA
