I grew up in Honolulu. Whenever I visit I look for where locals eat breakfast. Usually cheap good food. Greatest score was a place I stumbled upon when visiting the liquor store in Lihue, Kauai. Saw lots of people going in and out of this unmarked door. Peeked inside and it looked like a school cafeteria. $5.95 for lau lau, rice, mac salad and a drink, served on a banana leaf on a tray. Best food I've ever eaten.
We searched for five spots in Waikiki for some cheap and good eats. We were surprised how many reasonable spots you could find in Waikiki. Which place looked best to you? Let us know in the comments. If you know of a place we should check out next time, please share. Thanks! ❤
I have good memories at the International Marketplace with my mom. We went to Waikiki many years ago and couldn’t always eat at fancy places everyday. We found International Marketplace and loved the foodcourt there. They had so many affordable and delicious options. I remember having a pineapple pork burger and she had some Korean food. Such good memories and I’m still craving that pork burger to this day!
I can honestly say that I love this video super informative. I'm traveling from New York to Philippines, but I the idea of stopping by Honolulu for one day has come to me because this was one of the last places my uncle traveled before, he passed away. It would be like honoring his footstep. As a tribute I'm planning to write his name on the beach before I can go to my destination so keeping a healthy budget is a must. Thank you for making this video.
Hi I am from Hawaii and been watching your videos from Japan and am very happy that you visited us I just came back from your country, Japan is a beautiful country
You both in U-Kitchen is my favorite part of this video! Seeing you both enjoying a bit of everything, and those meals look loaded with all you could want to eat after a morning exploring that city. 🤤 I want to try the curry flavored fishcake.
Hi boys! I absolutely love that you made this video for us, especially with the way prices continue to climb at restaurants and fast food establishments. It’s so good to see that you can eat on a budget in Waikiki. All of the dishes looked so good, especially that poi dog! It looked amazing! The sausage reminds me of the kurobuta arabiki sausages that I always purchase at Tokyo Central Market. Take care and thank you again!
Hello guys want to let you know I'll be in Honolulu September 20 to visit friends. I've been here many times. Looking forward being here again😊 0:42 and try some more delicious Hawaiian food. 😊😊❤
Mahalo for sharing! I’m already a big Asato customer. Our freezer is packed right now. I want to check out U Kitchen for that Nori Bento! And Potama! We don’t have to wait till we travel to Okinawa. The steak place and hot dog with the taro bun is now on our radar. Thanks so much, sometimes us locals get jaded about Waikiki but we love to support local so we will plan a day there soon. ❤
Bro the teriyaki spot is legit, ate there almost daily. Order food then walk up to a souvenir shop, grab a tall long board. Go back and grab your food and enjoy that life
So many feels seeing Waikiki. All the food looked 'ono, especially the bentos at U-Kitchen. And, all so reasonably priced! The sherbert from Asato Family looked so refreshing it made my mouth water. I smiled seeing that it was "local kine." Thanks, you two, for another yummy and informative video!
Your food reviews in Hawaii a while ago is how I first found you on TH-cam! Thank you for another great review series! I saw somewhere (perhaps NHK news) that there is a shortage of nori (and also poor quality nori) due to bad weather and red tide outbreak in the Ariake Sea, Japan.
Speaking of lunch, salads, and ranch dressing. I am eating a Buffalo chicken salad with ranch dressing as my dressing choice while watching this video.
Thank you for making this video!! I am planning to visit Waikiki soon but everyone I spoke to says it is very expensive! I'm glad there are some good eateries I can check out without breaking the bank! You guys are the best!
Like misubi on steroids, lilikoi lemonade, a Bourdaine approval and curry battered bento...wowza😅 in a chunk of fried chicken... tropical rainbow of such affordable culinary choices in the Waikiki area was unknown to me. Knowledge is power! Never imagined a salted lemon gummie bear sherbet...sweet and sassy!
14:44 Shinichi, that fish looks just like the Zippy's Zip Pac fish! Maybe it all comes from the same food distributor! You did indeed find some cheap eats!
Those are great tips you guys gave us for Wakiki, thank you for the video. Have to try them next time there. Prior to our Okinawa trip to Naha in April we watched your Okinawa vids. Our hotel was within walking distance to Nuchigafu Restaurant you highlighted and of course I had to have the Sea Grapes dish you had. It was wonderful as was the whole experience at Nuchigafu. Thank you for that one too. Lately every time we go to Wakiki we stop at Tropical Tribe on Ala Moana for an Acai Bowl. They're Brazilian and the Acai is just like being back in Rio again 🙂
I absolutely love the Hula dog. I've been eating them since they had a shop in the original International Market and they were called Puka dog. When the couple split he moved to Kauai and kept the original name. She stayed on O'ahu and changed the name but she got to keep the yummy bacon taro bun because it was her recipe and my favorite. 😊 I am so happy that you tried them.
@TabiEats I got the story straight from her when she had a food truck in Haleiwa. I much prefer hers because they are the original recipe. His store is in the Poipu Beach area on Kauai but his buns are just plain bread.
It all looks great. Esp boxes. Thanks for showing the street location. Prices would be same here. Next time maybe mention what prices would be elsewhere in Hawaii, local location. Hello from Oregon!
Everything looked delicious. I really want to try that poi dog. Oh my goodness!! It looked good. I love your hair cut Shinichi and I got to ask how is it you look younger with every video? Did you find the fountain of youth?🤔😆
He has had a face lift or something. I have thought the same over the last couple of videos. His face looks really puffy around the cheeks and eyes. Far from making him look younger I think its having the reverse effect. Making him look older now.
U-Kitchen is so underrated! That place is a gem, If it weren’t for the traffic in town I would go there to buy lunch and dinner! I might need to try the sorbet truck next time I go to town, The linghingmui float and Lemon peel gummy sorbets look so good! Love the vids guys! 🤙🏽

Sinichi & Satoshi: have either of you ever been to the amusement park at the top of the mountain in Itsuka, Japan?? Has Satoshi seen their electric trains? *They have FOUR special trains. One shaped like a cat, one shaped like a dog, a musical themed train and a candy themed train* !!!! 😮❤ I would absolutely LOVE to see your reactions to the trains and the park. It's not as sunny as you think, lots of overcast. Try the big island.
Hello~~
7-11 is also good if you're on a budget.
Hula dog, the location on Kuhio Ave is temporarily closed. The other location in Waikiki is permanently closed.
Appreciate the heads up on the locations, it's always good to know!
Who would want to eat in waikiki?????????
U kitchen is closed for good. Very sad
We’re so sorry to hear that! We loved U Kitchen.

Oahu is overrated. They rip you off
Unfortunately they ruined the international market place! Everything is too high end! That’s why it’s always empty. 🙁

Passive aggressive much? What an out of place rude comment. SMH
Wow. Their beards didn’t make me think that one bit.

Looks more then 6 oz!

Can’t wait to go back ❤
