I think you’ll find that Kramer is a character. The actor (who wrote the memoir) is named Michael Richards.

Michael Richards is possibly the greatest physical comedian of the late 20th Century. He's up there with Chaplin, Keaton, Jacques Tati. And that doesn't even begin to bring in his vocal character work as Kramer, he made that character the biggest star of the show, so much so that they had to try to shut up the live audiences reaction whenever he slid into Jerry's flat.

Thank goodness NBC executives wanted a female character to be added to the cast who could hang out with the boys... imagine Seinfeld without Elaine? Was a great cast and writers.
