Latvian Golden Eagles~Virsis Delivers 2 Birds! Klints Self Feeds & Eats Both & Flaps For Joy 6.21.20

- Virsis delivers the first of two small birds and Klints mantles it and claims it! After a few minutes, Klints figures out to eat you have to feed yourself and so begins self feeding! Virsis returns a few minutes later with another small bird - looks like he raided a nest! Klints will finish eating the first bird and then head on over to the second one and eat it! Great job! When finished, Klints will flap those wings in joy! Thank you for watching!

Virsis, a Golden Eagle male, and Spilve, a newly-mature Golden Eagle female, breed in their artificial nest, which was installed in 2010. Most recently the eagles successfully breed here in 2016. The nest is located in a bog on an island managed by the Latvian State Forests. Last year a female (Spilve) appeared regularly but she was too young to breed. For 2020, Spilve laid two eggs - on March 28th and April 1st. Egg #1 is non viable & egg #2 hatched on May 10, 2020.

Klints is growing so fast. It seems like it was just yesterday when he was a fluffy white ball lol
Awesome.
Klints is on his own, no de-furring of his dinner by mom or dad. His chirps sound like "help, help" hoping Spilve will come and help him. But he figured it out and got some good bites of meat along with feathers and bones! It's really the same approach as the bald eagles when they drop the fish and the eaglets learn how to unzip it. It's how they learn to survive in the wild ~ tough love!
Klints is a very indepedent Eaglet and a fast learner too. TY Lady Hawk.

Any update on Spilve's leg injury?
Spilve came to the nest later in the afternoon and she was walking pretty good on it so it is improving!!
So sad to note this cutie died of starvation just a month later once Virsis went missing.
I think those two small birds are ospreays.
