As a Suarez fan... (I literally live in his hometown and have followed his career since he was racing in the Mexico series in the early 2010s) I am as proud as I can be of that finish in Atlanta. My dad was watching the race on the big TV downstairs and I was in my room, on my laptop watching the race, with a Discord chat on a second screen. And when the end of the race came, as race direction said "Race winner is car 99, race winner is the 99th", everyone in my house could hear my screams of excitement and joy. And just as I ran downstairs, my dad looked at me with that face that said: "Now I get it. Now I understand why you love that sport so much."
RIP 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 photo finish by 0.002 seconds at Darlington Raceway (2003-2024) Now the 2024 Adventhealth 400 photo finish by 0.001 seconds at Kansas Speedway has become the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history and which the Formula 1 couldn't have a photo finish like these but NASCAR is still the real definition of Real Racing until today.
I can't help but think that the possibility is looking more and more likely that we could very well see the first ever 2 Way Tie for a win in NASCAR History. And it may not be at Talladega like we all thought would happen for a long time, but it could happen in the 2nd Race at Kansas later this year in September
You really think nascar officiating of all people would let that happen? Theyd probably settle it with a coin flip behind scenes then say “HE WON BY 0.00002 ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE”😂
People really underestimate the power of the photo finish. I grew up pretty rural in Eastern Washington, with minimal NASCAR exposure and no TV of any sort. However, in 2016 I was at my uncle's house and he had TV. I was 12 at the time, and more than glad to sit down and watch the Phoenix race. That 5 second footnote at 10:30 was the moment I became a Harvick fan. Even to this day I still eat at jimmy johns over subway because of him. That kind of thing is what makes NASCAR great
forget the f1 comparison and, I may be mistaken, but I don’t think I saw any road course finishes in this video. It’s apples and oranges even within nascar, let alone comparing different series
Man i love you making references and paying respect to the other NASCAR creators for making all their gems. And I’m so glad you’re one of them! You guys are great and connecting those lines between y’all makes us appreciate both you and the sport even better. Call 1 800 to appreciate Connor (and Slap, and Ice, and Emp, and EE, and all the other guys and girls I’m yet to get familiar with)
I remember being at the Kansas race this spring and when Kyle Larson and Chris Buesher crossed the line, everyone thought Buescher won. But when the showed the replay everyone went nuts. I will never forget that race and so will my friends who I brought with me
People watch NASCAR for the crashes. People watch NASCAR for the close quarters racing. I watch NASCAR for the close finishes. Photo finishes are absolutely, by far, my favorite part about NASCAR. You have a 4 hour race of cars going on circles, leading to a finish that has to be determined by a photo. It's always so fun for me to try and guess who won, in photo finishes. I feel like most of the time I'm correct, but Atlanta Cup, this year, I was wrong and I couldn't even begin to guess who won out of Sieg and Mayer, at Texas. Photo finishes are awesome!
I feel bad for Buescher in the weeks following being edged out by Larson. He could have wore out the Reddick and Larson for bumping him out of wins despite having wins of their own, but he keeps on pushing. Worse even after the Sanoma race where he was in the right place at the last caution, but Larson is fucking built different and tore through the top 10 for the win. Even though I'm a Hendrick guy dating back to the Jeff Gordon days, I want to see him win.
With the current car, some of the race packages, and the way nascar likes to manipulate cautions to manufacture a finish, it should be zero surprise we're getting more close finishes. Tbh, nascar should be ashamed it took so long for the Atlanta one to even happen. That sort of shit should be happening every other week, honestly. ALSO, ask yourself this. The legendary photo finishes of craven/busch and harvick/gordon came at the end of a good green flag run. Just makes it feel more special. Now it feels expected and it's like, "do you want a cookie for giving us the finish nascar wanted you to with that little fun flag at the end?" Lol
Being row 3 behind the start/finish like for that Kansas finish was absolutely nuts! It may have been cold, windy, and wet, but all of us in the grandstands were handed one of the most amazing finishes ever! Only thing that made it better was being head to toe in Larson merch 😂
Ive never watched a single entire NASCAR race in its entirety but I love your content, been watching F1 forever but you’ve convinced me to watch a season of NASCAR lol. Cheers bro 🤙🏻
Defining human achievement, that sometimes when the cards are down, many can cheat the unlikely and impossible and say, yes! yes, we can make the impossible happen!
Can’t also forget this year that the Coca-Cola iRacing series also had its closest finish ever at Charlotte Motor Speedway! I know it’s on a racing sim and not in real life, but it’s yet another photo finish you can add to an official nascar series this year.
I think it should be noted that some of these finishes could actually be even closer than the times we measured for them. With the transponders towards the rear of the car, you hit the line before youre actually scored as crossing it. Buescher was actually scored as the winner in his finish against Larson because his transponder passed Larsons while they were crossing the line. We need transponders on both ends of the cars imho. More accurate data is always better
I was at the Atlanta race this year on a total whim. I think I decided to go on Thursday and bought my ticket on Friday. When the finish happened I don't think a single person in the stands knew who won. If my memory serves me right the displays around the track showed at times that both Suarez and Blaney had won. It kind of looked like Blaney won on the screen but Suarez had popped up on the ticker in first before him. It took them a while to figure out who won.

15:34 In addition to this, just five days prior to this upload there was a dirt sprint car race at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Ohio on June 9th as part of their Speedweek. That race ended with Cale Thomas beating Danny Dietrich to the line by a scant 0.001 seconds. What you said about that Daytona Xfinity finish in 2018 likely being nearly impossible to discern at slower speeds is accurate, because the camera shot used by the FloRacing broadcast showed the two at about as close to a dead heat as you could get at a dirt track.
