The thing I like the most about the current gen is that Nascar is putting more emphasis in setup. I would tweak a bit the mandatory parts, make it more about requirements than one specific provider, but the intent, from what I've seen, is ending the practice of build a chassi for road courses, a chassi for intermediates, you get the idea.
They want a chassi and want everyone to change the setups and adapt. The final goal is not reached yet, but the walk is being done with stride.

The Garage 56 car at the Circuit de la Sarthe for the 24hrs of Le Mans was an absolute gamechanger for the sport imo. Sure they were already evolving and shaking things up, but hearing about, let alone seeing a damn NASCAR coming all the way overseas to compete in arguably one of the most challenging motorsport competitions of all time was no joke. The resurgence of Richard Childress Racing thanks to Reddick and Kyle Busch (?!)

The massive improvement of Spire, Front Row Motorsports, and JTG Daugherty to where the latter two are competitive enough to qualify on POINTS
Rain Tires to help with short tracks and road courses, in a period where rain has been arguably the most volatile
Xfinity signing a deal with CW ensuring every household will have access to the 2nd tier series
When I became a fan at the 2019 Coca Cola 600, the changes are almost exclusively what I wanted after that season concluded. I saw a few races here and there in 2021, but 2022 is definitely the year I got hooked back into NASCAR. The sport still has flaws IMO but at this rate the good changes outweigh the bad and it's very good racing overall! Hell I even went to the Truck and Xfinity races at Pocono a few weeks ago! The first NASCAR race I attended in 18 years

I've been watching NASCAR since I was 4 years old now, I'm 12 Seeing the sport at bowling over time. It doesn't feel real. But at the same time it feels great. We finally have new short tracks. We finally have a street course and we finally have a third track and we finally have on you super speedway. It doesn't feel real. But at the same time if feels good, how will NASCAR will look like for the next 5 years? I don't know but this is such a good year to be a Nascar fan!!

What people fail to realize about SVG (Shave Van Gisbergen) is not only does he excel in racing Heavy Racecars and Endurance Racing, He's also one of the greatest Wet Weather Drivers, EVER, PERIOD. So, the fact that Chicago was wet, and it's a city course/street circuit, it was like everything just lined up all at once. I think he knew it was a stage set up for him to succeed. And he didn't disappoint.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video. It really highlighted why I still watch. The 2010’s was memorable no doubt, but it lacked growth and I was worried about the sport in the second half of the decade. What makes Nascar cool again is that they finally a general direction they want to take and I won’t agree with it all, but it really is cool being a fan right now seeing the sport change right in front of us

It's nice seeing an actual positive outlook on NASCAR, since so much of everything is just endlessly dumping on its flaws, from insiders and outsiders alike. Seems that even when we have an incredible race (like at Kansas this year), there's always a "yes but..." from a big group of people.

That Lemans car makes some of the most glorious engine noise that has ever been.
Its performance in the race was really impressive until that gearbox shat itself. Nice to see them let the Garage 56 car back out after changing it. It was really interesting to hear about its cornering being better than its top end.
Dirt tracks. Man that was wild. Maybe in a few years NASCAR will add in a time attack rally race just for the hell of it (I would love to see that.... be a throwback to the 60s :D)
addendum: I'm not a NASCAR fan, not even really a fan of circuit racing. Yet I have to say in the past 5 years or so, they have been doing a great job at demolishing that "everything is an oval or triangle" feature (read: bug) NASCAR had for so long

It's unfortunate that they ruined the best of the intermediate tracks and left Road America of all places for stupid street racing, but all the other schedule changes I've really liked. I've wanted more road courses for years and for them to at least try out dirt racing. If only they'd go back to full season points and end overtime completely imo (which I never really minded until the last few years), it would literally be perfect

Street racing was kinda questionable to me. It kinda worked, but don't underestimate what stupid nonsense politics can do. There's good chance it may not return. Why not just sacrifice one of Richmond dates for Chicagoland. I'm also upset the fact Road America was removed from Cup schedule. With so many teams being consistant somehow, sure why not bring back the full season points.

    • @otaviofrn_adv

@@chromediesel444 I have a question regarding the scheduling? Do you think that there are tracks that doesn't need two dates? I would put in Daytona, Dega, Darlington and probably Atlanta.
There are other solid ones with two, but I feel this cuts the real power of the schedule

  • @prodigy-hu6dy
    @prodigy-hu6dy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I LOVE this new direction NASCAR is taking. Just gotta iron out the safety issues, maybe get another short track and give North Wilkesboro a cup date, we’d be golden. Another idea is to have two race dates be “wild card” slots where the intermediate tracks could be rotated every year to keep the schedule even more fresh, and have fans vote on the track possibly to keep fans engaged. I’m 22 and grew up a NASCAR fan, fell out of love with it by the beginning of the Gen 6 car, and fell back into it hard in 2021. This is a new era and I’m all for it!

One thing I find interesting is I see a lot of fans who say the changes Nascar have made are terrible, but then turn around and say SRX is so great. They race in equal cars, on dirt, they do heat races, have a caution clock and even interview drivers during the race. Many of these same rules are the rules these fans hated in Nascar and we all know if they started interviewing drivers under green fans would lose their minds.

Makes sense, really. One of the main ways that cars are engineered to minimize the force of impacts is through the use of "crumple zones". When you make a car as tough and durable as the Next Gen, where nothing really crumples under impact, that just means there's a lot more force being directed into the cabin and the driver. Basic physics at play.

I was at the chicago street race because my wife won tickets on instagram. now, I remember liking nascar as a little kid because of the loud cars and the speed (and the video games), but had never been to a race, and lost interest as I got older and started understanding the intricacies of football and baseball. when we got to the race weekend on saturday and experienced the first car whiz by, my exact words were "oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize how FUCKING AWESOME THIS IS" and I've watched every race since that weekend. To me, a recent convert who has a mild understanding of the sport as it existed 20 years ago, the variety of tracks that I've seen so far, and the fact that there seems to be a pretty wide variety of top-tier racers is great. I get why the old guard of fans would be wary of these changes, and why some wouldn't like someone like me (although all the nascar lifelong die hards I met at Chicago were all welcoming and hugely educational to me and my wife), but these are the kind of things that nascar has to do to become relevant on a world stage, and not just be a regional marvel.

Stuff like the clash, Bristol dirt, Chicago, etc while not so popular, brings testing and change to the sport that allows NASCAR to figure out better ways to implement these tests to make the best racing product possible.
