I always wanted to have a fair comparison between a real macro lens like the Fujinon 60mm F2.4 and the macro extension tubes that I presented in my previous videos. Is it a difference, is shooting macro with a dedicated lens really worth it? This are my first impressions on this small magnifying lens that will transform bugs in monsters and flowers in work of art.

    Gear used:
    Fujifilm X-T3
    Fujinon 23mm f1.4

What’s your favorite macro lens for Fujifilm cameras?

How BIG is yours? mean to say Sound :)
Watched on the Asus gaming series laptop but fail to listen to what you convinced me. Please consider re-editing with BIG Sound.

    Hi Chris,
I’m really enjoy shoot little things recently like bugs, oil bubbles , flowers, water droplets and I’m looking for macro lens for a while. I use xf50mm f2 and it’s great lens but not good enough to shooting small things.
There are three lenses I’ve been considering are xf60mm f2.4 , xf55-200 with extension tube and Laowa 65mm f2.8.
In my opinion xf60 is cheap but old (release in 2012) . It focuses slowly and noisy to me.
xf 55-200 is more versatile and also could shoot birds, architecture and landscape.
Laowa have good IQ and 2x magnification but it’s MF lens and no stabilization.
I would appreciate if you kindly give me some advice and feedback on these lenses.

Love the choices, love the explanation. You’re on the right track. So, if you are ONLY shooting macro I’ll consider the Laowa just because AF in macro is sometimes useless (for moving subjects tho might be useful). The 80mm is better in that aspect and it’s a tru macro (100% magnification). But, if you combine more genres and you want a more versatile lens, the 55-200 with ext. might be your best bet (budget wise). It’s a sharp, pretty small and versatile telezoom. The 60 is a bit slow, as I mentioned, and still a 50% mag. So, it’s up to you but from I got from your message you want a more all around lens that can shoot macro so give 55-200 a try and see how it performs (maybe rent it first or borrow it if you can from a friend). The 80 is a great macro/portrait lens but a bit expensive and not so much for erratically moving subjects (like birds...sports...). Thank you for comment and hope this helped.👍😉

@@CrisConstantin Fujifilm have many Good but Old lenses. The photos taken by XF60 is amazing and it's good at many different themes- not just for portraits or macro photography. It's a reason why I hope Fujifilm would update their Old lenses. Thanks for your reply and I will follow your suggestion to rent 55-200.
Well, there's a new option right now : XF70-300mmF4-5.6. Do you have any ideas about this lens?

Didn’t test the 70-300 yet. I hope I’ll get it at sime point. But, from what I’ve “heard” is a great replacement for 55-200, now in terms of macro it “should be” better with extension tubes but...don’t take that for granted. Maybe if you can rent it first and than try the 55-200? I’d say it’s a very versatile lens in terms of focal length, but how sharp is in close focusing I have no idea. And yes, Fuji has and will always have great lenses in terms of color and sharpness (small beasts)

My xf 60 2.4 is currently in repair at fuji i expect it back next week (aperture ring malfunctioned). recently got a x-pro3. I wonder how it will function with the ovf for portraits (not close up/macro work). Maybe the frame will be to small OR the frame will be big enough and I can view alot outside of the frame. That could be a huge boon as I normally carry only one lens with me (the one on the camera). Using a 50mm or 60mm as the only lens always makes me hesitate as you have a 'zoomed in view' and you dont see what is going on around you (as you would have with a 23 or 35). Wonder whether the xp3 will change that

No, it doesn’t from what I remember. The OVF was build with small lenses in mind, more like old rangefinder cameras. The 60 f2.4 is not big by any means but it might poke in a little bit in the right bottom. Just let us know, when you have it back. It’s good info for everyone using the XPRO3s. Thank you for watching👍

@@CrisConstantin i got the lens back this week and have been using it with my xp3. I find the focus frame to be big enough and do find ‘looking outside the frame’ quite the boon when photographing more then one subject. You cam keep an eye on what is happening around you easily and still get in close. Also when using the focus range limiter of the xp3 the lens focuses quite fast imho

Also i use the hood of the xf 35 1.4 on it which makes the lens smaller then when using the original hood

That’s not only great news but I am happy it suits your needs. That’s another reason I love rangefinders (if you are a right eye dominant). You always have your left eye free to check things around when shooting. 👍

absolutely adored my xf60. It got destroyed in transit because the awful lens hood got stuck on and leveraged off the front element. I decided to replace it with an "upgrade" to the xf56 and I'm shocked by how much I preferred the xf60. 56 is fine but it's missing whatever magic the 60 has, plus that close focusing is insane. Just found out Fujifilm can actually repair my xf60 (how? it was in like 5 pieces) for a good price so am so excited to have it back!

It is something about it that I do like as well. I will probably make a comparison with the 56 at some point. Thanks for the story, man.👍
