    I wish you used a different subject for the macro sharpness tests. So many specular highlights on the coin which makes it hard to see the actual detail. Flower pedals, pieces of wood or non reflective rocks would work well for the test as there is lots of detail there.

      @HappyHubris 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I would supplement instead of replace. While the specular highlights make this coin far from ideal, it is useful to identify color fringing.

    I got the e-mount version recently from Amazon and used with my Sony a6100. For the price I really like the results that I can get and its very easy to use. Feels good in the Sony body. The only CON for me it's doesn't came with a hood lens.

    I used the Mark I lens, and it was fantastic for the price. It would be interesting to see a comparison.

      I had the mark I and bought this one thinking it was going to be an improvement. Boy I was wrong! The first one is vastly superior. This is pretier, and it doesn't have the awkward tube portruding from the lens, but that's pretty much the only advantages. It has a shorter working distance, is less sharp and harder to focus.

    • @pisangijo419
      @pisangijo419 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliotamayo413 Indeed the mark 1 is superior. That awkward portruding tube also functions as lens hood, hahah.

    Can I suggest small added value? For a lens having m4/3 version (like this), corner sharpness in 2/3 of APSC radius ?

    Like the lens, it is light weight, this is the photograph of Aberystwyth been here many times, this photo is not all over sharp. The price is right, but I would think hard if I would buy it.

    I dun know... The sample macro shots look more than decent. I'd think it's pretty good value. Of cos, manual focus on a macro lens is hard.

    I own an OMD EM5 III and am interested in the 7 Artisan 60 macro.
    I assume the orf file will not have an Exif. One question, do we have the full settings in the viewfinder when shooting ?
    Sincerely

      If it helps, I have it and it's a really good lens for it's price. Soft at 1.2 but gradually improves until it gets quite good at f2. Nevertheless I still shoot at f1.2-1.8 because sharpness isn't everything

    What do you think about modern Voigtländer lenses?
    Especially for Apo-Lanthar 50mm's.
    I heard both E-mount & VM mount's (although it's just for Leica's M mount) got round-shaped iris blades.
    Especially for their stop-downed position on F/2.8! (*and* F/5.6 for VM version!)
    Can you leave us some thoughts of you?
    *And for somewhat-reason-that-I-don't-know, it seems the E-mount version of F2/50mm (same thing that I mentioned above!) does have redundant(?) focus-zone marking beyond infinity, which VM mount one doesn't.
    And really sorry for unrelative comment!

    no EF-S or EF-M?That's weird, considering that it's fully manual, so no problem with the protocol being closed...

    Hello Christopher, thank you for an informative revew,. Would you recommend this lens for copying negatives (35mm & 120) onto a camera with an APSC sensor?

  • @pa6989
    @pa6989 ปีที่แล้ว

    When we talk about the middle of a picture, are we actually speaking about the middle or the point that is in focus?
    For instance, if I want a corner to be the highlight, does that mean it won’t be as sharp as when I want my subject in the middle?

    • @nassimorousseau6914
      @nassimorousseau6914 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      here it is the middle of the sensor, imagine you were photographing something parallel to the sensor, so in focus everywere, (as shown in the video at 2:28) you will still have less sharpness in the corners, that's mostly due to the geometry of a lens, so you are right, if you focus on a subject closer to the corners it will be less sharp, and will show more chromatic aberration, yet not always noticeable because of the contrast with the out-of-focus parts of the image.

    It's really weird that some lenses also get darker when focusing closer. It seems like a pain for videographers

    • @gstpierre69
      @gstpierre69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      All lenses technically do this, its just that some macro lenses compensate for this in some way or another. It’s a “flaw” inherent to many lens designs.

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      All lenses do this - it's just more noticeable on a macro lens, as they can get so very close.

    • @pizzablender

      I suppose hardly anyone does a dolly zoom from 1 meter down to 5 centimeters?

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is due to laws of physics. When you focus closely with a macro lens, only a small part of the light that comes into your lens hits the sensor, because the image is magnified. There are no macro lenses that do not get darker at high magnification.

    • @TrueKyanite
      @TrueKyanite 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MicaelWidell yea, but like... Maybe a lens can compensate by, idk making the appeture Slightly brighter. But it should probably only happen to cine lenses
