    Considering one tends to shoot macro at F8-F11 (or beyond) with pre-set focus when shooting near 1:1 (achieving correct focus by moving the body rather than the focus ring), this might be an excellent budget options for people who shoot insect macro or product detail and can't quite shell out the necessary $$$ for the laowa 60 or 100.
    I really appreciate that besides your detailed breakdown of all technical aspects, you give a variety of perspectives that really allow photographers to answer not just the question of whether a lens performs well in a "lab" setting, but whether or not it's a lens "for them".
    Thank you!

    Great review! As you mentioned, it's a tripod lens for sure, at least for me. 5.6 is a sweet spot too. Thank you very much!!!

    I love the price of the 7Artisian 60mm lens, if I were strapped for $$ this would be on my radar. As a Nikon user, I prefer my 60mm Macro with electronic contacts and autofocus at a higher cost but a more versatile lens.

    The flare examples at the end look a bit like the pictures produced by the old russian lenses that are widespread in my corner of the world. Some people actively look for that.

    I’ve been thinking of this lens and the Laowa 65mm Macro strictly for negative and slide film copy work. I know the Laowa is a better performer overall but, for just copy work at f/8, is the Laowa noticeably better? Thanks for all your work, Dustin. 🙏

      Fortunately a camera sensor meters fine even with a manual focus lens. I tend to shoot in AV mode, and metering isn't an issue.

    How about using this lens for portrait closeup? Would it cause noticeable distortion on the face? Some lenses make the nose look wider and the face thinner when used close to a subject

    How does it compare to the Laowa 65 and Fuji 80 ?
    Do you feel the lack of Af in Macro
    And, ist this lense weather resistant ?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This lens is not weather resistant. The best option optically is the laowa 65mm. I don't mind not having AF all that much in a macro lens because often manual focus is preferred at macro distances.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Laowa is easily the superior lens in optical performance and versatility (the 2x macro). It's more than twice as much, though. If I had the budget, I would go Laowa.

    You don't know how to use a manual macro lens. You should first set the lens at desired mag and then focus with moving the camera and use flash for eliminating camera shake
