I was walking along the canal in my little town in Scotland ( Kirkintilloch) when I saw a rustling in the reeds. Thinking it may have been some kind of water bird I stopped to watch… the reeds kept rustling then out popped an otter!! As soon as it saw me it was off back in the canal but I was left standing there amazed. I will probably never see an otter again ! I feel so blessed.
The quality of this video is in a class of it's own! I've filmed otters in Shetland professionally and I can assure you this is the best guide to otter watching you will ever see.
Brilliant.. just watched this after finding some local otters …after to unsuccessfully trying to film them this morning… mainly due to trying to focus through reeds…handholding and manual focus was poor because of them diving and fishing in different focal planes… but it was fabulous to watch through viewfinder catch an eel…tomorrow another day 👍🤞
Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing 👍 Something I noticed while waiting for Otters is that the waterbirds tend to fly away dramatically and fast when Otters are close by. I've seen Otters try go for the waterbirds, really interesting!
The have stolen many time my ( in Danish ) HORNFISK in Østerhurup east coast of judtland ( Jylland) I learn how to have a small fish ready when big fish on line , then otter come from under my feat my fish to steal i trow small fish and get big on on land. Otters do not get hook and ( nanoline) very bad to eat (Do not try it ! u di ) so if otters you want to see go there and look !!

Gosh I would love to follow you for a summer!🙌🏾
Thank you for this excellent video. We are off to Coll in a few weeks, so now feel well prepared for otter searching!
Have a wonderful time!
Why don't you have your own show on the BBC? You are the next David Attenborough. I could watch your programs all night.
My first thought was "well, i don't need to smell otter's poo to be sure that this is it". Simon starts describing
Now i know more then i hoped for

Otters need putting on the general licence
Otters have their place in the ecosystem - just like everything else...
Beat way to view an otter is over two barrels!!
Prick.
Ignorance is never bliss...
