River otters have a lot of fun!

They look like they're doing the same thing as the Japanese otters, though. The same wiggle dance when drying, same goofing around in the water.
      They're all rather carefree animals.

I lived near a large fishing river as a child but where I lived there were a lot of backwashes into ponds and little creeks. There were always otters hanging out by the river waiting for salmon and stuff. They were always super friendly and showoffs. I remember when I was like 7 years old and I was wading through some water and one swam right by my legs. Thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Watching this footage is *almost* as thrilling as seeing the real thing. I'm including this video in a Nevada County (California) watershed blog post about North American River Otters (scheduled for publishing around Dec. 21st, 2020) I've heard rumors of neighbors seeing them occasionally and there are a few iNaturalist observations noted within twenty miles, but there is little community-wide knowledge of these charismatic animals living in the area. I hope your imagery and my writing encourages more folks in the western states to become otter spotters and conservation effort contributors. THANK YOU for your expertise and equipment investment, video editing, and for sharing your work!
