Big shout out to Matt (and everyone else who has loaned me a watch), I'm going to be struggling to post this one bck on Monday. I know it has some issues, and it isn't exactly cheap, but it looks amazing and it fits me like a glove, so that has to count for somethign, right? Let's see if my inherent tightness allows me to actually buy one! Cheers, Jody

One advantage of wearing the bracelet upside down is to control where the folded metal falls against the bottom of the wrist. Depending on the shape of your wrist, that placement of the fold can pressure a watch head more to one shoulder of the wrist or the other, helping to keep it centered. I've had to do so from time to time.

I sometimes wear bracelets back to front, sometimes you get better centering of the clasp if you do this, you try the bracelet the correct way round and if the clasp is off centre you reverse it to see if it sits any better. You would think if it's off one way reversing it would make it equally off the other way but that's not the case sometimes it will improve the way it fits your wrist.

There are plenty of timegrapher apps which works with headphones microphone attached to the watch case directly. Of course that's not a real timegrapher but this might show you some obvious issues with movement anyway. I used one to adjust few seiko and orient calibres, and it worked like a charm I was able to set 0 +1 spd easily.

I've gone to a brick and mortar store, set the Seiko to NIST time, wound it fully, and then come back around 24 hours later to see how much it's drifted. Not as precise as a timegrapher, but I've found that method to be a pretty good predictor of how the movement will drift over the next couple years. All my Seikos slow down over time, so I look for ones that run a bit fast when new.

I ended up with two other watches (a 2020 Rolex 126610 and a Tudor BB58 Blue both from the AD) and they were both +0 on my Weishi. I look at accuracy as important. which is partly why half my collection is quartz and I use my Casio Solar Atomic watches to set my automatics. I agree because my trust with Seiko's QC was lost long ago. Concerning timing, on another subscription I frequent and respect, I stated a simple question. If a movement is capable of +/- x seconds a day, then why doesn't it perform that way out of the box? Many, myself included, were able to tweak the old well known 7s26 movement down to very good timing especially if you owned a timegrapher. Why is the customer having to unscrew the back and with steady hand make adjustments to get better or even decent accuracy? I realize we're dealing with mass produced lower end movements, but wouldn't be refreshing for that -20 to +30, whatever, to be tightened up quite a bit? I was told cost and the fact most people don't care. I haven't mentioned alignment issues and won't because this horse has been beat to death. I would buy only after eyes and hands on. I enjoy your content. Cheers everyone.

Bracelet is comparable to strapcode in quality, the Zaratsu polishing is reeeally nice, movement is reliable and a bit better than the old mid-tier seikos like sarbs, and the most important thing is the look of the watch. I find it beautiful in its semplicity and industrial feel. I got it as a gift, I would recommend to buy it at 750€/800$. Excellent watch!

Great review, is it just the lume pip alignment we should be looking for on quality control or are there other things we should be looking for?

I *love* that: absolutely beautiful, although do agree with you on most of your niggles. The one I don't agree on is the lack of an applied logo: I think it's better printed. I think if it were applied it would unbalance the dial and just be "too much". I think, on this occasion (and usually I'm a big fan of applied everything), they've made the perfect choice with the printed logo. Great review though!

This Matt DID get the SPB187. I think the blue and black pops. But, this black dial is great as well. I just have one, two, three, four too many black dialed watches already :D. You are right about the fit. I have a 6.75" wrist and this watch fits like a glove. The case finishing and the details on the dial are just about perfect.
    Thanks for the video. Cheers!

Haha, I went the other way... too many blue dials in mine! And it's a little special to have the SS bezel, so it's not just your typical black-dial/back-bezel. I wouldn't mind having both, though! 😂

5:21 - I don't know about Matt but I've had a few watches that regardless how many links I pull from either side I couldn't get it to set on my wrist the way I like it to. Solution? Flip the bracelet back-to-front. Have only had to do this on a couple but it worked like a charm.

Nice watch, I like most things about it. Seiko do not make great bracelets, but after market options are plentiful. Saying that my Grand Seiko SBGA231 Ti bracelet is fantastic. As for the timegrapher question, if you are going into a quality jewellers to look at a watch, they should have a timegrapher that they could put the watch on to demonstrate the quality/accuracy of the movement for you.

Good looking watch! I love the case on this model!! But like you I'm a bit disappointed with the printed logo on the dial, unsigned crown, but my biggest niggle is the bezel insert..if you're going to do stainless steel then make it solid, part of the bezel, I get ceramic and colored inserts! But "come on man" !!

Nice one. You were very lucky with accuracy of that 6R-35. Mine is literally all over the palace, from what I have read this is common to this movement. Apparently winding it up a minimum of 55 times helps accuracy BTW. I was winding 25-30 and not getting good accuracy. In fact my 4R-36's all run within COSC from the factory. 6R-35's claim to fame is the 70 hour power reserve, not it's accuracy. I prefer the Supermatic 80 over the 6R.

Thanks for the excellent review. My SBDC125 doesn't have any bracelet rattle and the chapter ring is fine, but Seiko's QC needs to improve; no one wants to breathe a sigh of relief after spending $,1200 on a watch.

I'm left handed I have found that some watch bracelets / watches wear better with the clasp flipped around.. it is also slightly easier to operate as a lefty with it reversed (for me) I wear a watch on my right arm.. as I can't stand having a watch on my left getting in the way.. I bought about 2mos again the larger mm200 SPB105J1 Green dial 44mm, I love it very well made the bracelet is ~ok as you say on the older bigger one as well.. I got mine at a local AD and it lines up very well, the AD matched internet pricing anyways.

I have one and absolutely love it! It’s a keeper. I disagree on the Willard. I bought the Blue “Limited Edition” and love it too, BUT ... I was disappointed with the boring oyster bracelet it came on. It’s too meh for a “Limited Edition”!! So I threw on a Strapcode Shark Mesh tapered bracelet. And will eventually get the announced Uncle Seiko Beads of Rice for the Willard that they are currently working on getting out

Jody, we already had a small conversation about the frustrating Willard. it's so funny to see that you're in love with the SPB185 because I'm also thrilled by it. But until now I resisted because of the QC issues and that damn 6R35. Thanks for this great review, Uwe

I suggest you review an SPB14x or 15x diver. They've all got the half brushed half polished hands. Mine was also perfectly aligned for what it's worth. :) The bezel is cracking, the size an improvement, but the interruption of the minute track next to the date is an eyesore.
