    I plan on getting a nice upgraded red chevy cavalier convertible that's from my birth year. It even has power windows opposed to the crank handles. I wanted to get a new radio installed and maybe get the windows tinted.

    Thank you for showing me how to take my dash apart, my dash looks perfect and scared to death to break anything(tan parts hard to find) and it makes me miss my sunfire. Two screws, bam, new radio

    Very nice video. I have a 2002 as well with 334k miles on it. Unfortunately, the interior got a little busted up after taking it to a mechanic. but I'm planning on fixing it up a bit and installing a double din radio to modernize it. No reason to let a good car go to waste ;) Especially at 334k miles! She's got plenty of life left in her

    i bought a 2001 cavalier about 3.5 years ago and i never even knew that it was supposed to have a chime. mine doesn't. although i did install a new radio but the size of it is just the top half of the slot and bottom half is a shelf which is very convenient.

    • @MisterFakeGinger

      although, when i start the car, i have to attach the deck (front case) and turn it on before using the headlights. then when im done driving, i have to turn off the head lights first then the radio or else i get the protect message. i hate this car. lol

    I'm having a hell of a time. Perhaps you can help me out. I have an 04 Cavalier and we purchased the wiring mount and a Dual (brand) double din bluetooth stereo. We wired it all up, then plugged it in with the wiring mount. The stupid thing wouldn't power on. We could hear the cd player power up, but then nothing. We thought the stereo was bad, so we took it back and got another of the same one, plugged it back up, and still nothing. The fuse is fine, and we're pretty sure the wiring is right (unless we bought the wrong mount). It simply won't power on other than the hearing the cd player kind of engage. Any idea what might be wrong?

    Id really like to make this my next project, but i have a couple quick questions. the orange wire in the beginning, just don't use it? And what exactly is a t tap, and what is the video playback when the parking break is activated for? lastly, A rear mounted camera, would that be a possibility in this build? i figure i might as well go big or go home if im gonna be doing all of this haha

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The orange wire (illumination) isn't always used, and wasn't used in this install. We used the blue / white (dimmer) wire that dims the screen when the headlights were on. The Radio didn't support an orange wire. A t-tap allows you to tap into a wire without compromising the wire itself. Instead of cutting into the wire for the parking brake, a t-tap allowed me to tap into a wire without cutting it up. Pioneers require a double pulse ground for the parking brake wire in order to watch videos on the screen and this wire (bright green wire) needs to be attached to the parking brake. Finally, yes, a reverse camera is totally doable in this build.

    • @samanthamastrodonato9200
      @samanthamastrodonato9200 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've installed the exact same stereo in an '03 Cavalier. I found out the hard way that the parking break wire is also needed to access the bluetooth settings for the stereo. If you ever want to unpair a phone with the stereo, you'll need to connect that wire to your parking break, or at least ground it.

    Just ground the green wire and you can have movies play without the parking brake on

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You cannot just ground the green wire on a pioneer, they require a double pulse negative signal and simply grounding the wire will not work. If you want to bypass the video warning while in motion, you will need a microbypass or a manual toggle switch to reproduce the double pulse negative.

    Do you just have to connect the two black ground wires together and that's that? You don't need a third ground wire to attach to a metal part of the chassis?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, just connect the black wires together (the end from the metra harness and the other end from the Stereo. The ground works fine through the harness, but if you wish to additionally ground it to the metal chassis, you certainly can. That was not done, however, in this video.

    Hey man where did you tap into for switch power for the radio

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuse box. Use an "add-a-circuit" to safely tap into switched power. Use a test light or multi meter to find the right one.

  • @Pierson116
    @Pierson116 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if I want to connect the red wire to a switched power source, where would be the best place to connect it? Ive heard rumors of there being an empty switched power slot in the interior fuse box if the car has manual windows. The kit I plan on ordering for my cavalier comes with a red wire to do this...any advice? I doubt it would matter but mine is the 2005 model.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use an "add a circuit" which allows you to connect into any switch power fuse (occupied or not) to tap into power. Then use a multi meter to probe each fused circuit in the fuse box to locate a switched power source.

    Hey, thank you for a great video!
    I have a few questions that I would really appreciate if you answered.
    1. I saw someone stated that the dash will crack and break. What do they mean?
    2. I am looking for a radio for my 2003 Cavalier with just Aux/USB, are there radios like that out there, or do I have to get the one you got?
    Thank you

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any standard size single or double din will work. The dash may be brittle and crack when removing.

    i have a red wire left on the stereos connection and a (orange or red, idk) wire on the chime box says Ignition/switched 12v... What do i do with these wires?? which one goes to the wiper fuse or such? both together?

      Connect the "ignition" wire on the kit to the stereo's red wire which is also the ignition. I'm not sure what you mean by the "wiper" fuse?

    Everything I read online says the factory radio harness does not have a keyed 12v source so you have to find one ? Is that true

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, which is why we installed a "smart harness" to provide that at the radio harness. These vehicles run on canbus data system, not analog. If you do not want to buy the smart harness, you can run a line to the fuse box and tap into switched power.

    Is this problem on all gm produces with the chimes also with turning the radio on and off because i didnt have this problem with my s10 or blazer

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally 2000 and newer moved over to a canbus system where the door and warning chimes operate through the factory radio, and there is no longer an analog ignition wire behind the radio. So this requires the chime adapter which also provides the red ignition wire behind the radio.

    i installed a pioneer radio in my 2002 chevrolet cavalier but the radio wont turn on if the yellow and red cable are not together and i hace to turn it on/off manually can you help me?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to either run a wire to switched power in the fuse box or tap into the cigarette lighter postive wire. That is where you need to connect the red wire. It needs to be hooked into a source that turns on when the key is on.

    I recently bought a 2001 cavalier and the radio was in the process of being replaced ,it was a mess and I've redone the wiring for the most part by my radio does not turn off ,even when I remove the key do you have any idea what I've done wrong

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check to see where your radio's Red wire is connected: this wire needs to be connected to a power source that is only on when the key is on. That will be your issue. Disconnect it wherever it is connected and a source that is only on when the key is on, like tapping into the cigarette lighter positive.

    do i need a chime to get power to the after market radio? i don't care to have it ?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the issue with these GM vehicles (depending on the year) is that they have the canbus system, or the data signal to the radio. There is no standard ignition wire to turn on the radio on this 2002, so the harness used in this video provides not only the chime, but also the turn signal noise, ignition wire (red wire), etc. You can get away by running a wire to the fuse box to locate switched power just so the radio will turn on with the key. If its too complicated, the simple method would be just to buy the harness. Hopefully that helps.
