    Just purchased a Maverick Lariat AWD FX4, very happy with it so far. It hits ALL the checkmarks, I'm averaging about 28MPG, it can tow, it can haul, light off-roading , and has a range of about 350-425 miles. I had a Lightning reservation but I cancelled it when they priced the XLT extended range at 72k, ridiculous for a truck that has a range of 300 miles in ideal weather conditions, in cold weather it would've gotten about 200-250 miles for 70k+, ridiculous! for 72k+

      So you got it fully loaded, thats the top trim level right? I was thinking of buying a used work truck like a Mercedes Metris but 75k miles and 26k for it, this is what tops 27k and new miles!!

      I the LXT at around $24k fits the bill for me but taking time to decide. I heard ordering from ford itself gets you a better price as many dealerships over price way above msrp. I heard bed spray and some other features are low on availablility so going with a drop in liner is best.

    I like how you start out with the Maverick being where trucks used to be: not humongous. I've been a car guy most of my life and am finally considering getting rid of my current S2000 to switch over to the Maverick simply for practicality but yet I don't need something that barely fits in my garage, that gets pants worth of fuel economy, and that I have to take out a loan against my house to afford.

    As always excellent video from you both. We picked up my Wife’s Maverick XLT AWD (with The Luxury Package, Ford360 and some other stuff) on December 23rd (ordered July 2nd) and based on the 50 plus people who've come up to her asking "Is that the new Maverick?" With almost a 50/50 split of people saying they have one on order or wanted to order one, I think Ford hit this one out of the park. Oh and some of the ones who already ordered one fell in love with her Hot Pepper Red Color, with one young couple saying they were going to call their dealer to see if they can switch to it. My Wife feels like a celebrity at the moment (and she's very shy but loves the attention her Maverick is bringing her:). Keep up the great work, all the best from Maine (oh it did great in our 8 inch snow storm the other day she said;) Happy Wife, Happy Life;)

    What is hurting most brands is the chip shortage. I mean, the dealer down the street has a Maverick and has a $5000 mark up on it. I never pay MSRP let alone a mark up so I just walked away. This is going to hurt sales and upset buyers. Its not the brands fault, but the dealers are messing with potential buyers and THAT alone can be enough to upset someone enough to buy a different brand, no matter how good the vehicle is.

    In a suburban home owner, do work around the house on weekends and this is perfect. Generally I rent a full size from U-Haul or Lowe's to lug things around but this truck will be perfect.
    Last month had to rent a truck to haul gravel, now I'm redoing the laundry room and had to rent to take the drywall back to my house. Never really needed a truck for my daily commute, but if I get the hybrid it'll handle my commute with only slightly worse fuel economy

      Me too. I'm hoping I can manage to hold out as well, but my 2008 Explorer threw an ABS control module failure into the mix so its going to be put up for sale here soon as it comes back from the shop. That control module is no longer available...turns out older isn't a bad thing, my 87 Ranger and 88 Bronco 2 just keep on going, that Explorer...err...Exploder is proving why they're called Exploders. Sad because I like the 4.6L V8 in it but not worth the horrible headaches from lack of parts availability and its not a part you can swap out yourself, it requires a dealer level scan tool to program, and be able to bleed the brake system, and reprogram the part to the vehicle's VIN.

They just kept going....later I owned a 2004 Ranger FX4 4L and I got 13 years out of it. I had to trade it in, as the frame rusted out. I now have a 2021 Colorado ZR2. No regrets so far. But....if Chrysler gets into the mini-truck market they'll build something like the Ram50 size (smaller than the 1st gen Dakotas) and hopefully offer a Hellcat model LOL....oooohhh that would be a fun truck, couldn't keep it going straight down the road, but would be fun as hell LOL.
      GM could come back out with the Cyclone (S10 with a Turbo 4.3L V6) and maybe turbo or supercharge their small V8 LOL.
      I mean people are putting 302's in their 80's Rangers, funny not much better for power, but they have heat issues....and a few have shoehorned a 351 into their 80's Rangers. I think some company out there has already put one of the Coyote V8's into a new Bronco, so there's an option. Maybe Ford can do a limited edition Cobra Maverick and shoehorn the Coyote V8 into it HAHA!!!

That being said, I would order one in a heartbeat if the Maverick offered the twin clutch rear diff, SelectShift trans, front tow hooks available on all AWD models, not just the FX4 option and a 2.3 HO- 310HP- 350 lb ft engine option. Then Ford would have powertrain covered with average, moderate and top shelf sporty engines like in the F150. The rear diff would provide extra traction in mud and snow, the manual shift capability handy especially for towing and a more powerful engine for those that want it. This would make the Maverick comparable to the F150 in capability and performance, just on a smaller scale.

    • @davmel1006
      @davmel1006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe what you want will be the raptor version of the maverick in the future years.

    • @spyder000069
      @spyder000069 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a shared platform with the escape and bronco. They are not going to add a wild engine. 310/350 is more than my old f150 5.4 3v put out and it was rated to tow 9500 lbs. They are not going to warranty anything like that and also don't want to take away sales from ranger or f150. Keep in mind ford cherishes that #1 selling truck tagline which is one of the reasons they killed the ranger to boost sales over to f150. Now that they brought ranger back and now have maverick they will probably step very lightly to make sure f150 sales don't tank. Especially when the ranger refresh is coming soon and the new ranger is supposed to be even bigger than last gen.

    • @fastfairlane3677
      @fastfairlane3677 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spyder000069 First off, a 2.3 - 310/350 is not a wild engine. Secondly, my '09 5.4 3V was rated at 310/365, tow capacity 9700 w/3.55 gears. Now, a 2022 F150 Supercrew 4X4, 5.5' box with a 3.5 - 400/500 weighs 4948 lbs which breaks down to 12.37 lbs/ 1 hp. 9.89 lbs /1 lb ft. A 2022 Maverick crewcab AWD, 4.5' box weighs 3731 lbs and if Ford offered the 2.3 - 310/350 would break down to 12.03 lbs/ 1 hp, 10.66 lbs/ 1 lbft . You don't get much closer than that! So a Maverick with a 2.3 - 310/350 would perform like an F150 with the 3.5 - 400/500, which is the driving characteristic I'm used to, and what I would want, expect from the Maverick.
      Ford currently offers 4 variations of the 2.3 with 270, 295 ,300, and 310 HP ratings, 310 , 350 lb ft torque ratings. All have full warranty and can operate on 87 octane. The 350 torque engine has the bulk of its torque available from 2500-4500, right where you drive daily or when towing a trailer which makes it a no brainer to offer this engine. If I'm paying extra for an optional engine I would want the most powerful version available.

    Howard, you mentioned the Ranger, S1 and Dakota. But how about the earlier Ford Courier? They were extremely popular as delivery trucks for auto parts shops. This could be a niche market for the Maverick. Granted the Transit Connect didn't exist 40 years ago, but it's $6k more expensive than the Maverick.

Had it a couple weeks & so far so good, only complaint is I did switch out the oem perelli scorpion atr's for K02's the first week of ownership. The rear suspension on the hybrid still seems cheap and dated though. Penny pinchers grabbed that one I feel.
    It’s going to be interesting next year Looking at Hondas ridgeline numbers between this vehicle’s sales and Hyundai’s.
    Chevrolet could build something good and use the luv badge and do very well today.

    The thing I like the most about the Maverick is that it looks like a low-tech truck from the 80s or 90s. I wish it was rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive. I also wish it was body on chassis like the Ranger. The comment I keep seeing about mid-size trucks is that they wouldn't pay that much for half a truck. The reason I like mid-size is that I live in the city and it is easier to find parking for a smaller truck. Even if I could get a half-ton for the same price I would still get a midsized truck. Several years ago city planners started repainting parking lots and making the parking spots at least 6 inches narrower than they were before. Some of the parking lots for new condos are so small that I saw a full-sized truck that was parked and it stuck out so far it blocked half the lane.

    I did a bit of research and it turns out that the new maverick is about an inch larger in every dimension than a 1994 ranger. I would say that this is more rediscovering what once was, than creating something new.
    This has been a rant of mine for a while now, because I loved those small trucks, that the reasonably sized and priced entry level truck hasnt existed for years now.
