Gatwick Airport London LGW/EGKK 10th March 2008.A very windy day !! With 90 degree crosswinds .It was so windy it was very difficult to hold the camera still. Sorry about the wind noise.
Here is a BBC Report . Many places had severe gales and heavy rain on the 10th, with the south-west of England especially taking the brunt of this storm. There were gusts of wind in excess of 70 m.p.h. and some of the rain and showers were accompanied by thunder. some very squally winds were noted further south. Berry Head (Devon) recorded a gust of 82 m.p.h. on the 10th and Crosby (Merseyside) recorded a gust of 75 m.p.h. on the 12th.
26 and 08 although it does have 26r and 08l which is shorter and very rarely used and of course no good if the winds are 190 at 26kts plus!!But no other direction facing runway
Excellent. Thanks for sharing! :-)
Very nice!! That would have been some ride! lol

i believe on runway 26L it was 190 degrees most of the time with gusts up to 40 knots
@appleglory Remember, gusts of 71 Knots but not all the time it was one of the worst days i had seen at LGW for a long time.

Wow that had to be a very stressful day for air traffic control.
as far as i am aware once they did a go around they did not come back until the weather got better
i don't believe it was the same one as you would not want to try that approach again, i felt for the passengers ,i would have hated it.
Looks like a typical nasty day that occurs in autumn or winter.
Oh dear.. The poor pax.
Needles Old Battery (Isle of Wight) 83 Knots 10/03/2008 13:00
Mumbles Head (near Swansea) 71 Knots 10/03/2008 0400

Only one landing out of all of those, scary
Isle of Portland (Dorset) 67 Knots 10/03/2008 1300
Yes and plenty of Vomit to clean up afterwards. I HATE Turbulent Landings, they make me feel sick
