When Kurt mentioned that it's 80 proof.. the face Trent made was hilarious. He was clearly embarrassed to have spent $230 for 80 proof whiskey
As someone ignorant to this what correlation is there between the proof and price?
@@Gio-nl7eg not always. But Trent is a big fan of whiskeys with higher proofs and 80 is the lowest that a whiskey can get.
80 proof isn't bad, there's a lot of great stuff in that range, but most expensive bourbons are usually cask strength (which is the proof they come out of the barrel at, before watering them down. Usually 110-130)
Whereas bottlings at 80 proof are usually aiming for more of a mass appeal and scale of production, rather than being geared towards what enthusiasts want.

@@TrulyZer0 varies by spirit, bourbon and rye go high proof, but a lot of the more expensive scotches are 80-90… it seems only recently that high proof and cask strength Irish and Canadian whiskies have been around

OMG!!!!! A friend of mine gifted me a HALF GALLON bottle of Crown Royal apple. At 35% ABV, all I could do with it was mix it with cranberry and lime juice to cut that sweetness. This should NOT exist!!! CHEERS!!!!

The only flavored whiskey I have had was Proper 12 Apple. I enjoyed it in small amounts at the pool. But could feel the cavities settling in because it was so sweet.

The crown royal (CR) bags are classically burgundy and when I was young and played marbles at public/grammar school those CR bags were an excellent holding pouch for the marbles. A small town Ontario Canada memory :).
Perhaps my favorite video to date. Kurt nearly busting out time after time and Trent being the best possible straight man. Super job gents. I've never had the green apple but there is a 750 of their Peach waiting for the weather to warm up and ice cold drinks in order.

I am a Crown Royal fan and think their reserve is very good. I have a bottle of the XR18Y I have not opened but I doubt I would have bought it if were apple flavored.
I use the the Crown Royal bags to put my fishing reels in. Keeps them dry and clean.
I cannot think of any time a flavored whiskey like this would seem like a good idea to me. Plain old Crown Royal is worth keeping on hand, and I have found uses for the purple cloth bags at times. But this: Ugly box, ugly bottle, ugly bag, and from your reaction it doesn't taste good-- at any price. And the price is crazy! But the video was kind of fun. Now, if there is time in your schedule, let us know when Early Times Bottled in Bond will be available again (it's disappeared in my area). Keep up all you do, guys!

“Finished in _______ barrels” is a FLAVORED whiskey. There is simply no getting around it. Why is apple flavor derided when sherry cask flavor is adored?

For camping we put Crown Apple in the freezer then pass the bottle around until it's gone. Known as Freezer Juice. This is the only way I can drink that stuff, can't picture wanting any of the 23 yr old as you described it.

I enjoy flavored whiskeys with a rock on a hot day. Crown green apple and the proper 12 apple are both pretty good. I want to try the knob creek maple and crown salted caramel but it will probably take me a few years to get through my 2 green apple bottles.
Knob's maple is good on a fall day. It's the only flavored whiskey I like.
When you laugh about a product before you open the box it's difficult to take you seriously.
Y'all should pour it on some vanilla ice cream or make a milkshake with it. I bet it tastes great then!

I have about half a bottle of apple in my whiskey cabinet but since we only drink local or Kentucky whiskey I haven’t been able to give it away.
I’ve never found ant Canadian whiskey that I have liked.

Got a bottle of reg. Crown been sitting in the cupboard for 5-6 years at least. Won it in a raffle along with other liquor's .Been thinking about cracking it and taking a rip .More of a vodka fan just starting to coming back to bourbon/whiskey.

😂 Apple crown is AN ACQUIRED taste...My brother..rest his soul..loved it. And yes, melted jolly rancher is definitely what I described it as. It didn't help that it was warm ..I can only drink it chilled or over ice. Since I always purchased him one for a birthday present, I did purchase this bottle. We drank it for and to his memory! We also all choked it down and quickly put it back on the shelf for next year..Great sport watching yll

I’m not a big Canadian Whiskey fan but was intrigued by the 24yr on the Wiser label. Well I won’t do that again! It’s absolutely horrible!!! They waited 23yrs to long to bottle in my opinion. Since this episode has been referenced several times in other vids I’ve watched, I had to seek it out. OMG! I’m sure the whiskey was terrible on it’s own without Trenton’s enhancement process (leaving it in a hot car)…but, that surely couldn’t have helped 😂 This is another classic video from the Team!

I like to think they accidentally ruined a batch of whiskey at 23 years old... and they were like how can we salvage this? What will cover up the fact we accidentally spilled it on the floor and had to mop it up into the bottling machine?

If you have any high age, high proof Canadian whiskey you can spare you should do an experiment with blending it into this and see if the proof and non-flavored whiskey helps it!

My only thinking is the 23yr crown didnt turn out well and they decided somewhere in the process to add flavor to try and save it. Not a flavor guy but 😢😢 I did buy a box for my collection.

I like apple but not in my whiskey! I bought some Apple Crown Royal years ago and it was the worst crap I’ve ever had! Still have the bottle but I might as well pour it out because I will never drink it!

Flavored whisky is not something I have ever sought out. I would guess that the base whisky is from lower quality batches, and then they add flavoring and sweeteners to increase the likelihood of causing headaches. At least flavored whisky is properly labeled. Tequila can have added flavorings and sweeteners that are not declared on the label - that is far worse since it is deceptive.
Crown Royal probably had a substandard batch of old whisky, and they found a profitable way to get rid of it. There will always be people who are willing to pay for expensive novelties.
Glad I passed on this at my local liquor store. I stuck with the bottle of Stagg Batch 22A instead.
