We can all agree that murder is wrong.
However, Grandma here survived syphilis, abandonment, the deaths of 10 children and being a widow at a relatively young age. She also learned 5 languages, became an entrepeneur, ran a successful business, lived to the age of 100 and was able to die in her childhood home. Gotta say, she was quite a badass.

One wonders exactly why all those women were anxious to be rid of husbands and/or lovers. After all, divorce wasn't an option in those days, and abuse was considered fairly normal. I'm not excusing murder, but I suspect at least a few of Baba's clients might have felt they had no other option.

When you’re in a situation where there may be no help, sometimes it might be. What’s worth more? A horrible human abusing and killing their wife and/or family or the wife ending his life and raising her children in a safer way? (Note the price of this stuff was pricey, these women had dowries, no doubt, and inheritance)

I’m guessing but don’t quote me that when that nasty miserable std risen exscuss for a human being got married and cranked out 11 defenseless humans. That the syphilis count in that house hold whet from one person to to 13 and the babies died and that poor man probably saved him self from working him self to death to provide for a tribe of little ones and probably died a horrible death... I highly dought that she learned five languages at all, and sounds to me like a man hating jaded women that made a living preying apoun the rest of humanity that was unlucky enough to trust her.. arsenic and murcurey I. The good medicines sounds like she had no freaking idea what she was doing unless it came to deffenitly trying to kill someone! And as far as the jaded part goes. She did fall in love with a military man from another part of the world that was there on deployment and there was gonna leave from the start this was a known thing, and as far as the std goes she deft got F’ed over !!! Not her fault! However she did intentionally have sex with another person at least 11 times and willing and knowingly gave it to him and 11 inocent helpless tiny humans that she pooped out herself yep.... she is a horrible human being and a waste of a human life along with all the others she ruined!!!! Not a hero not one to be lauded for her nothing accomplishments, and not a female roll model!!!!

Babies born to women with untreated syphilis may be stillborn (a baby born dead) or die from the infection as a newborn, those who actually survive can develop deformed bones, severe anemia, meningitis, blindness and deafness.

Not trying to be a weirdo, but i myself being stuck with a man who is very mouthy and constantly making me miserable, and living on that poverty line because he tried to keep me barefoot and pregnant, until i had the doc tie my tubes, n not letting me get a job cuz my littlen is, " too little still, and can't talk well enough if someone bothers him ar daycare!" I can see why a woman would want to poison his arse! Hell, i think of poisoning mine about once a week!! 😂 I even threaten this fool with it, and he still acts a fool! The only thing he's got going for him is he's a decent daddy! So if that ever should fail him, and you hear on the news about a white girl who.poisons her Hispanic hubby's black beans and rice... y'all will know it was me!!! Lmao!! 😂😜 No, not really, but i can see why one would do it, and I'll eventually get sick of his crap and get up and move on down the line!!

I think she helped people, though we only heard about the harmful services she provided. She did provide a service, but she was no serial killer. She didn’t actually kill anyone. She wasn’t the murderer. In many cases, I’m sure she provided self-defense.
The women who administered it knew what they were doing. Is it fair to judge her by today’s standards, when she lived - and acted - in a different time?
She lived by the harsh rules of a time when women had no rights. Not to their bodies, their children, property or income. A man could do anything he wanted and a woman was subject to it. Regardless of abuse, being ostracized from her family and friends, or committed to asylums with inhumane conditions, subject to horrific abuse. She couldn’t divorce. She couldn’t separate and keep children or property. Cast out with no way to support themselves, or any children they might have. Even widowers couldn’t inherit property, they had to have a male family member inherit her property and trust that he would let her remain there. No hope of raising above the circumstances you were born in, unless by marriage, and that’s as much ambition as a woman got, and even then it was decided for her by men.
Good for Baba Ana ❤️ What a personal history! She did amazing feats for a woman of her time. I love that we know her story.

Hmm I guess technically she facilitated the murder of multiple people but I don’t know if I’d say serial killer. Women had very few ways out of a bad situation. Maybe in some circumstances I could understand murder as a way out. Vault sarian covered a case of an Italian woman (forget name) who was legendary for this very same thing! How many learned women through history have done the same I wonder! Thanks for covering this interesting case!
