    I can’t believe so many women have it in their heads that a married man who cheats on his wife could be trusted to be loyal to them...

      Happens every day. People believe cheating spouse do it because (whatever excuse told to them) but it will never happen to them because they are meant to be together. Then history repeats itself.

      Same as getting involved with someone who is willing to kill. When they have finished with you, they will kill you and keep the cash you both stole, and might even emigrate/disappear for good.

  • @MdnightWnd

    This kinda reminds me of that case in Washington state back in the 80s with cyanide laced Excedrin. The woman who did it was trying to kill her husband but planted more in stores to cover herself. Christiana wanted to deflect suspicion and a poor little boy died because of it, just like Susan Snow in the Excedrin case.
    Really sad how some people value human life so little.

    As for the motive, it sounds really similar to the Stella Nickell product tampering case from Washington state, USA: the idea seems to be that if they can tamper with enough products to cause seemingly random poisonings, (including placing poisoned products in their own homes) that it will throw suspicion off of them and into some random "mad poisoner?"

    Why did they have chocolate coated strychnine tablets? And it even has a set "dose" amount. Just seems a bit... Dangerous. And odd 5:41

    • @LisaNH934
      @LisaNH934 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      IKR? I thought same thing?!

    • @maneckineckbeard1749
      @maneckineckbeard1749 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right!? I thought the same bloody thing!!
      I actually spent a lot of my childhood in Indianapolis, home of Eli Lilly, and so I've seen A LOT of very, *very* strange old Lilly medicine bottles in local antique shops, flea markets, garage sales and in local museums...but chocolate coated strychnine is a new one on me!
      The only thing I could think of is that it was either intended to be a temptingly good tasting & smelling poison to entice rats or other pests...or, alternately, that it's from that very bizarre era of medicine when things like radium water and mercury pills were considered to have curative properties? I do know that in Victorian times there were some people who thought strychnine was an aphrodisiac, so perhaps it was sold for that reason? But still- the dose listed on the bottle was hardly the minute, homeopathic dosage that was generally used for "therapeutic" means! So I'm left thinking that it was most likely intended to be a rat poison or something similar? At least, I certainly hope so? Because it's more than a bit creepy to think of a major pharmaceutical company selling chocolate coated poison pills with the intention of themmbeing used to poison people??

    • @jackhoff3910
      @jackhoff3910 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They were manufactured for the purpose of poisoning animals. That's my guess.

    • @laurav956
      @laurav956 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It was used for medicinal purposes, around the Victorian Era, so the chocolate coating would be to mask the bitter taste. "...was once prescribed as a remedy for heart and respiratory complaints and as a stimulant (or body "upper")." I also saw some links mention for treatment in depression, vision loss, and paralysis.

      @@laurav956 Agatha Christie used chocolate-covered trinitrin in The Chocolate Box, Poirot's greatest failure. And, of course, in The Mysterious Affair at Styles, the victim's tonic actually contained strychnine.

Most people just felt sorry for the company it had done nothing and had to recall the product which must have cost a fortune. A recent case nearby involved a women fired from a cookie company, she tampered with cookies on a store shelf. She was apprehended by the police.

    One book I read which had a chapter on this case suggested the theory that Christina wanted the poisonings to be seen as random, thus taking away suspicion from her so that when she actually murdered Mrs Beard, no-one would suspect her. Luckily for Mrs Beard, Christina was caught before she carried out that part of her plan.

    first of all. this channel is great.
    This case reminds me about a similar poisoning happened about a century ago in Steglitz (today a Berlin's district): a pharmacist had an affair with her co-worker, that wanted to marry him, even if he had a wife and 3 children.
    One day a packet of pastries was left outside the family's door. The boys were enthusiast about the sweets, but the mother and the daughter don't wanted to eat it, probably because of dieting or something similar. One kid toke a bite but "the taste was funny" and spit the bite out. The other boy felt the bitter taste but he swallowed it. Soon after he took his bike but during his trip he fell on the street, the crowd thought about a bike accident but the boy had foam on his mouth and died soon after.
    The mistress was arrested but I forgot the details. There was something tracing her back to the shop that was selling the pastries.
    I have a book about old German crimes, if someone's is interested I could find the names and more details.
    Sorry for my poor english.

    It was troubling to me that such a potent poison as strychnine would be sold coated in chocolate as described on the bottle and I believe the shopkeep should have destroyed the confections once returned to prevent exactly what happened to that young man

    If you started watching this video without seeing the title, I think that first picture of her would clue you in to the fact that she was a killer. I've seen few images of people from back then where even a DRAWING of them has the crazy eyes.

    Clearly deranged. She could have been randomly putting poison out in the public to divert attention from herself, but then tries to implicate the doctor, drawing attention to herself. I think she got a thrill from what she was doing.
