    Hmm, a few thinks to disagree with here.
    I think first step is *use a stable K1*. Putting beginners in a tippy boat will prevent them from learning proper paddling technique.
    Second, when sitting in a boat, do so without a paddle. Get used to the feel of the boat responding to your hip movements.
    Only once someone can sit in a boat (on calm water), pass them a paddle and get them moving.

      Wrong, i went from John boat to surfski with only canoeing experience as a child and I only use a standard straight paddle
      If you can master brace paddling and comfort you will be able to do exactly what this bloke has done it's unconventional and you don't learn the foundations but 8 months with no prior experience or any classes only TH-cam videos, I now go out 500m for shore and ride waves back in for practise and I can paddle side on on waves I may not be fast or consistent but I'm confident and able to stay upright in moderate choppy conditions
      I watched a heap of Greenland paddle videos your paddle is a blade and you can fan that thing forever and never fall over with practise, the transition to paddle can be awkward especially in choppy conditions but once you ha e some experience on the swell you naturally learn to move in cadence with the waves and boat movement and with time you can learn to roll the paddle from a "power stroke" as I say into the brace stroke position and towards momentum also means you don't have to "flap" the blade like a cement screed or a birds wing for stability you can just allow it to drag to one side, it's a hydro dynamic outrigger and your the device that controls it, however i think this is a slight difference between a flat blade and the swept blade used in the sport the flat blade can be tilted and waved around to produce lift easily but I have not used a real swept paddle yet, do whatworks for your situation take your time be humble and try not to fall into a attern and don't be fearful of a dismount(surf ski advantage, just get back on and keep trying)

      @@danielspoon1234 So you've had no coaching, you don't use a wing paddle, have never raced and you can paddle 500m (and think that is an achievement), and are certain that I'm wrong?
      Some of the greatest world champions in surfski (the Mocke brothers) and K1 (Ivan Lawler) state this; 'a stable boat is a fast boat'.
      I think they know better than you or I.

    Thanks Yang Hu. I bought a used K1 because it was light and fast looking. First time out was all about swimming :) Next time I will have an idea of what to aim for.

      Master your brace stability and confidence
      Get someone to make small waves, this tips all my mates out who refuse to learn to brace properly I consider it good practise also some cardio and core strength goes a long way I do some monkey like climbing and it means I can do some recovers from big angles

    My dad has bought a full carbon racing machine a year ago to paddle up and the fenland drain/river behind his house to keep fit and active during his retirement years. He has a RAF paddler competing in all disciplines from slaloms/we racing and sprint/marathon races.so not new to this type of boat.Are there less aggressive hulled boats that you can stay upright in easier without sacrificing much performance. I paddle c2/k1 slalom and play boat and don’t no much about levels of boats in this class ✌️

    u can remove your seat or lower it at first to keep balanced, or even adding weight under ur seat.

      It's taken me at least 25 hours of time in the surfski to be confident paddling in light-moderate beach swell (3 foot max)

    Those round bottom racing kayaks are very difficult to balance. anyone who says otherwise has never tried one.

    Standing still is the hardest part of kayaking. Just go! It makes no sense to balance in one place.

    • @yanghu238
      @yanghu238  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yes,it's different between 'just balance' and 'paddling balance'.but you must know how to site safely using paddle first

    slapping the water has never worked well for me, neither has paddle scoops if anything, I always have LESS balance if I do those

    • @yanghu238
      @yanghu238  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to relax. To feel the balance. The balance point is very delicate, practice one side first, then switch to the other side

      Even practise holding the jetty besides you and push yourself away and pull yourself back close I can't speak for a blade paddle but if you go watch some Greenland paddle stability techniques that vastly improved my confidence and stability to a point where I can now get around comfortably and slowly learn the other fundemntals of paddling

    To me it doesn't make sense for an adult to want to start rowing such an unstable boat!!! It's not worth it besides being a bit dangerous

    • @Mr.Bryan1234
      @Mr.Bryan1234 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What does being an adult have to do with padding not “rowing” a unstable boat? Plus it takes years of experience in surfksi before even trying a sprint k1
