  • The biggest hit song, also known as "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer," from Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's 1928 production, "The Threepenny Opera." This song entered the jazz repertoire in the 1950s and has been recorded by many greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin, Dick Hyman... the list goes on. We hope you enjoy our four-hands version of this classic!

    Well, I'm old enough to have heard many versions of this song (Frank Sinatra's comes to mind first) and can honestly say have never been a big fan of this song. That is where you two have supreme talent. To take a song and not just breath new live into it, but to resurrect it into a fantastic performance piece. Awesome....never would have conceived so many piano styles could be applied to it. Jazz improvisation, show tune, stride(?!), and just both your own brand of eclectic piano mastery. What's a treat is that thanks to the lockdown and YT we get to watch a new artform (Trick Alderighi four hand piano) progress and grow.

    Brilliant, and fun to see the pair of you running around each other again - less space for you than when you are stage. Mack the Knife is such a fun tune with such horrific lyrics! My favourite version of this is a live recording of Ella Fitzgerald with Duke Ellington. She totally forgets the words and has to get herself out of trouble by improvising!

    That was great! Hey - BTW - love the necklace Stephanie - is that Larimar?
    Can you help w/ a compare / contrast ragtime v stride? Is the baseline of stride the big differentiator? This question comes from a guy who still has the stickers on the keys and is cranking out the blues scale in C like nobody's bizness! LOL...love you guys.

    • @StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi
      @StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it's larimar! 😊
      In a nutshell, stride piano has more improvisation and swing. And yes, the left hand is a big differentiator because the intervals between the bass notes and the middle register chords are larger than in ragtime, and there's more chromaticism. I hope this helps!
      Thanks so much for your interest in our music!

    I"d be curious to know about how long it takes ya'll to work out an arrangement such as this.

    • @StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi
      @StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This one in particular came together pretty quickly but other arrangements can take days or even weeks because we keep refining and revising them. Also, once we have the arrangement ready, we have to practice it! 😊 But in general it's hard to say how long each arrangement takes because we work on different arrangements at the same time...
