    Just learned of this title a few days ago and it is looking beautiful. As I am sure many of your followers do I am a major fan of Star Trek, with ENT being the last series I could say was at least "like Trek". While I grew up with TNG I do love DS9.
    I love how your aesthetics are sort of from the TOS movies through to VOY, really gorgeous looking. Been wanting a single player title like this since Bridge Commander, I hope this will fulfil that wish.

    Let's also not forget: Venus and Mars are both technically in the habitable zone (or very near it) in our solar system and both DO in fact have atmospheres. Currently no life and aren't something you could enter without either A) an environment suit or B) (in the case of Venus) being at the proper altitude. But they are still there.

    I just can't get enough of this video....! I've watched it about 8 times! I'm dying for a game that's interesting but non-violent, every game about space involves combat and killing, it just shows such a huge lack of imagination of both players and devs. I congratulate you sir, you're a truly a pioneer!

    Recently discovered this; and the trailer looked really cool. Saw quite a few Star Trek and Orville influences there; so I loved pointing those out to myself. 🙂😍🤣
    And OMG!!! Someone's finally come up with a use for that dome on the ceiling. I've seen a similar dome in so much Trek; and it did nothing. You guys made the ceiling dome into a holographic map projector. Awesome idea. 😁😁

    Awesome game . I love space and Star Trek. When can I play it ?

  • @sandwiched
    @sandwiched 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes! Happy to see you treating SPACE with respect, instead of just something to fast-travel through! ;) I have a few questions, as usual... ;)
    - Will you have interstellar obstacles which need to be avoided or otherwise taken into consideration on interstellar voyages, such as nebulae, black holes, etc?
    - Can you physically point the ship at a star and warp there (perhaps with stops along the way to fine-tune the direction), without having to designate that star as the destination?
    - What happens during both sub- and super-luminal speeds, if you intersect some other body, such as a star, planet, or even another ship?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the questions, we always love answering them :D
      - There will eventually be navigation hazards that you will need to avoid, or find some way of upgrading your shields to withstand.
      - Yes, you can warp around manually if you want to. Right now it's a bit clunky, but we'll be working on the Helm to make it easier to aim the ship. Space is continuous in the game, so you can literally warp anywhere you want, and when you disengage the engines it will check your coordinates to see if anything actually exists there.
      - While at warp the ship will simply pass through objects for now, but that won't always be the case. While travelling at sublight you will collide with objects, but the damage model isn't set up yet.

  • @Daniel-Strain
    @Daniel-Strain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really spectacular! On the helm display, you might also want to include an ETA and not just distance remaining. Aside from direct advantages to finding things, you could have a service record and earn commendations and other stats that players could share on a board. Maybe these could be shown when one switches into their dress uniform - perhaps one day at Captain's balls to be held on a shared server at a starbase. Perhaps service record could also eventually give one access to bigger ships, or better drafting of crew members etc. Anyway, happy new year!

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yeah, the Helm is very basic right now and missing a lot of the planned features. It will soon have a dedicated autopilot panel that will show all of that information, as well as some other controls for orienting the ship in relation to the current target.
      There will be a fair number of achievements that you can earn on Steam for various things, and having that affect your visual appearance in the game is a great idea. We can also add physical items to a player's crew quarters when achievements are met. The plan is, when you join a multiplayer game and claim a crew cabin it will spawn in your personal items.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely yes, the gameplay is centred around exploration so a lot of work will be put into fleshing out the galaxy with interesting life. It's critical really, having a 1:1 scale galaxy will be a shallow experience if it's not dense with engaging content.
      We're going to be putting out a new video after the current build is polished, so watch this space.

    Great progress, Keep up the wonderful work. For those really long distances will there be Worm Holes, or is that just to far outside reality?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There probably will be worm holes scattered around the galaxy, but they'll need to be discovered by players, and they won't be easy to find. Ultimately we want things like Sag A* runs to be an endurance challenge, and there will be achievements and things associated with such a feat.

    Great work and demonstration (even if Claire did lose her head halfway through 😁 ). The way you've set up all the controls on the in-game panels is excellent, and with the new generation of haptic gloves coming on the market, I have to ask if that function will be enabled in VR at some point?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no single antagonist, the game is about dealing with the challenges presented by the galaxy. It could be environmental, mechanical, or a hostile foe. It will depend on where you choose to explore and what you discover there.

    Will there be probes to send to Class L - type planets (Probably nothing interesting, but possible); then, I can actually warp to a more interesting planet that will likely have something to discover, while probing one or two less-likely systems?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of the data about the planet will be obtainable from orbit, so for the most part you'll already know if there's anything worth sending a probe down for. For example, a surface scan from orbit might reveal some form of interesting insect life on the surface, and you'll be able to launch a probe to retrieve a sample. Having the ship's science team analyse such samples will be the primary way of skilling them up, but you'll need to retrieve the probes from orbit first.
      The initial design for the sample-retrieval system has the player waiting for the probe to return each time (just a couple of minutes) because it has to dock back with the ship, but in retrospect it wouldn't be too difficult to have them waiting around in orbit for you to return. I'll have a think about that.

    • @StarshipSimulator

      @@BlueSideUp77 The issue there is that the probes are purely sublight and would take years to arrive. In the game's lore you are initially going to be flying mankind's first ever FTL exploration ship, so FTL tech is limited to large vessels with reactors powerful enough to create a warp bubble. Shuttles will be limited to sublight too.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Close! Right now the max speed is about 3.6ly per minute, which is 1ly every 16.8 seconds :) Typically that works out at about 1 minute between stars on average. The actual speed of the ship will vary however based on reactor output, component health, and any upgrades you might make on your travels.
