Top clip. Funny to see Steve Howe screaming "Hey Bo Diddley!" (although it does kind of look like he's not sure of the words). Also, could this be the maiden voyage of the mullet?! That chap had a lot to answer for.
Funny, I loved Yes (especially their early albums) in my teens and, yeah, still do - but since I found out what went before Yes, I became a sixties garage punk fanatic all the way. Never dreamed I would see videos like this. I wonder if Mr Squire's band The Syn also exist on video...?
I didn't know this existed. Thank you for posting. Mr. Howe was certainly under-utilized. (The fans aren't dancing, much.) This is a great performance. I wonder why the picture is square.
If you dig this stuff check out Bodast, a power trio, Steve really advanced himself in Bodast from the Syndicates, always taking the path less traveled as he was on his path to YES, too bad they didn’t amount to much, poor management according to Mr. Steven James Howe, but their first album, Bodast, their only album, is pretty damn good! Tomorrow was great to!
If you like this song, i suggest finding a copy of the 45 or LP by Bobby Comstock & The Counts on the Ascot label. Best version i've ever heard. They were a Beatles wanna be british Invasion band & they do a hard rock with a little bit of psych version of this classic blues Diddley tune.
I personally find them all versions pretty likeable, whereas Yardbirds's version would be my personal favourite. The Strypes are doing the good work today spreading the word of lately forgotten musical style RnB(in its rootsy form) amongst new generation. It's probably just puristic old rockers and "stuck-in-obscurity" Indie-journalists who are bashing them with all their strength. Sad for them cos I smell a revival !
By looking at the band members hair-dos and clothes, they do not differ much to the hip bands of the 2000s. The only exception might be that guitars are not held upright anymore. The kids today prefer to keep the guitars much lower and legs spread out to look much cooler. But then again, Steve Howe playing upright and 'uncool' sounds a million times better than any hot kid on guitar in the year 2010.
Who would have guessed that 45 years later, we'd be looking at this video while Steve Howe is on tour with "Yes".

That (and Steve's 'do) were about as far as a guy could get in 1964, even in London. I think a little slack is called for here. ;-)
what a young STEEVE :) thanx soo super rare vid...
Thanks for shareing this, I didn't know this footage existed. Cool ! Thank you!
This is punk 13 years before!

Yes.
Gotta love The Beat Room, shame very little remains from it, would've been nice to see Bowie on there in '64!
Agreed. Wonder what happened to the singer...
Right said!
I recommend the Syndicats song "Don't Know What to Do"
TDKIII I don’t mind from Bodast is great to! Not to mention three jolly little dwarves from tomorrow LOL
@AmericanPunkGarage Yeah if that kid with the 175 grows his hair, he might go places!

You cant compare this song with anything else, because this is originally from Bo Diddley , the originator, and the stones covered him too.
Steve Howe?
Badger got into the tour bus.
Hey Bo Diddley! bom ba bom, ba bom bom ba
I'd never heard of them either. Might be over your way August 18th by the way :-)
A la guitarra el gran STEVE HOWE, futuro miembro de YES.
I really like Steve's guitaring in Bodast too, he has a style that is masterly but backs off... so there is no wanky lead, just clean tight lead mmmm
Lynsey Houlbrook this also is A cover (:
rockstars7777 - you have mail
that's him on lead...
WELL BETTER than the Strypes crappy cover
I think this was the high point of his career :-)
Is he the one that sings here?
No, he's the one playing the big guitar, as usual.
