Radical dudes! 8BitStereo is finally Revamping this infamous Konami classic, it's the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! This tubular OST is among one of the most well known NES soundtracks for its incredibly catchy nature from the Konami sound team, pretty much all of the main themes are catchy and memorable from the memorable "Title Screen" (which is often theorized Queen's track "Stone Cold Crazy" was an inspiration for) and all the Level & Stage Themes, and just recently official releases of this soundtrack gave us official track titles, while unfortunately very generic, my parenthetical additions for expanding the context of where the track is played is always a pleasure to do. And of course Jun Funahashi's compositions for the majority of this soundtrack are impeccable and his "Title Screen" and "Underwater Scene" tracks are certainly his most beloved from this game, Funahashi is a very underrated composer whose work always deserves praise and shout outs, same for the Arranger and the games Sound Driver provider, Hidenori Maezawa! Now a very interesting note about this Soundtrack is that it wasn't composed purely by Jun Funahashi, Hidenori Maezawa was responsible purely for the games sound programming and didn't compose on this OST, who is often associated as the other composer for this game. Funahashi has confirmed the tracks he composed for and Maezawa's involvement, and has said because its been so long since he worked on this game he does not remember the other composer for the rest of the tracks. However, in the recent Cowabunga Collection that features this title, includes original design documents in Japanese with various names of who were involved, ironically though, there is no pure Sound Designer credit, but a Hagiwara (萩原) is credited for Support under Programming, which the last name is shared with the Konami composer Yoshiyuki Hagiwara, who did actually work with Jun Funahashi on the Mission: Impossible NES OST, however that game is listed as Hagiwara's first Soundtrack he did, so it is currently unknown if he was involved in the TMNT NES game here, his name is put for the other tracks (ironically some of the most well known themes from the game), but is only a Questioned guess and is Unconfirmed. Whoever did compose the remaining tracks I do hope information is discovered one day! :) The rest of the game itself is fairly infamous and well known due to its harsh difficulty and of course the well known episode of AVGN about it, despite its difficulty and wonky programming at times (especially with the jumping in tight spots), the game is absolutely a treat on the eyes Graphically with so many colors and varied environment, and is easy to exploit certain mechanics once you learn about the game and how its programmed, still a challenge but makes the game more manageable. The game does a good job respecting the TMNT IP, even with many of the weird enemy designs, it still feels like a TMNT game, but is often seen as the black sheep of the TMNT NES games due to being a side scrolling platformer than the Beat'em style many are used to. But even with its infamy, the game at the very least is always worth listening to, listening to TMNT soundtracks in the Konami sound font is how I'll always remember these games! Hope y'all enjoy this Revamp of the TMNT NES game, I sadly put it off for awhile due to hoping the official releases would give another name on this OST, but only got the titular "Konami Kukeiha Club" credit. But thanks to all Patreon supporters, much love to you Tier 2 & 3 supporters, glad to still have many of the names still around! Support here if you'd like! :) www.patreon.com/nikotengoku
Thanks for digging up the backstory details! This game was legendary back in the day. Nobody I knew could get past level 3. The pseudo open world aspect of it is very cool and I always wished someone would make another Turtles game with overworld sections like that.
This game has been unjustly bashed left and right, it was awesome to play growing up. No doubt the soundtrack was a big part of the experience. So many great afternoons spent with this cart, the feeling of completing it was unique.
If there was one thing that was GREAT about this game, it was this..the soundtrack. Because it sure as hell wasn't the gameplay itself..this title wasn't quite as putrid as the masses made it out to be, but at best it was a mediocre side-scrolling platformer. It's certainly not unplayable by any means and you CAN get enjoyment out of it even...but again..no one will ever ever confuse this with Super Mario Bros. 3
This game's opening track was one of my favorites of all when I was a kid. It has that kickass chiptune, it's got the motif for the Turtles Theme, and that little guitar solo. Cowabunga!
@@crouchlp Thanks to someone's video, they explained the collision box was also screwed up. It was literally a broken part of the game, not just that the controls were janky for swimming.
thats true! always tried to hold breath even half of that stage but no were good enough. Only the best players could do that stage within the first 2-3 tries back then.
Love this presentation of the ost. Better than the LRG vinyl release. The one thing I would do is add short 50 to 60 second reprises of Theme 1 to bridge the water level and stage 5 music and Theme 2 to bridge stage 5 and Shredder defeated. The repetition of the themes feels more like the game since they repeated those.
I love this game. I still go back and play it often. My favorite songs will always be the Underwater theme and both Area 5 themes. I just can't get enough of them.
I enjoyed playing this on the Cowabunga Collection despite not being the best out of the other 3 NES TMNT games, I even get the option to play the Japanese counterpart “Geki Kame Ninja Den” which I think is pretty unique even tho I don’t understand Japanese.
Oh hell yeah!! I loved TMNT back in the 80s & 90s! I always liked to envision myself as the fifth member and I wondered what my weapon would be. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Niko!
It's at least the one thing everyone can agree on is radical and badass! Jun Funahashi is one of the many great god composers at Konami, and hopefully someday a confirmation on who did the other tracks will come (likely not Yoshiyuki Hagiwara as speculated on the video but don't like putting "Company Name" Sound Team, if I have some name lead I will run with that).
@MikeFsGamingCorner oh yeah don't play on original hardware 🤣 that is torture. I got ran over by a foot clan tank in 3 seconds as you have to hit it from the side with Donatello's reach
Dato curioso la carátula de este titulo es alusiva al comic original de las tortugas ninja de hecho creo que ni bebop ni Rocksteady aparecen en el comic solo aparecen en tomos posteriores son perdonajes exclusivos de la caricatura de TV
level 5's overworld is some great stuff. some hits on this soundtrack for sure... just not stage theme 2- my brain associated it with the more tedious parts of the game....
I liked it better when the previous cover art has each turtle with their respective mask color, even though it's not the official cover, but this one is.
I just beat this game for the first time ever just this last year. I hated the Technodrome so much. Especially when you're going through the last corridor to get to Shredder. Those hovering laser beam guys are no joke. To go through all of that only to find out that the Shredder is such a pushover at the end was kinda disappointing. This game and Castlevania II had to be the easiest final bosses I've had to face in any Nintendo game I've ever played.
Yeah sounds about right, I've yet to beat this game myself cus of the Technodrome, but thankfully I can just enjoy the OST and be satisfied with my time with this game. Congrats on beating it!
You're welcome, I know its even more of a niche format, but if someone is gonna need to know about NSF files anyway, might as well introduce NSFe to the masses!
@@Nikos8BitStereo the version of the nsfe file in the archive zophar's domain isn't tagged as thoroughly as this copy, leaving many of the sound fx inaccessible to most players. Using your file, I was able to extract the "low health" sound, which I'm using for my smartphone app's timer alarm. So I really am glad I was able to find this. Thanks again!

Awesome soundtrack; terrible gameplay

its was an interesting concept, but horribly executed

1:46 has been stuck in my head for 35 years now
The Underwater spot....PTSD inducing, esp. once the timer begins to run out.
Many of the latter sections are much harder.
I know it was hard as hell. The controls were garbage
@@crouchlp Thanks to someone's video, they explained the collision box was also screwed up. It was literally a broken part of the game, not just that the controls were janky for swimming.
Only those kids who grew up with a NES and this game automatically remember that electric 'brrrr' when this track kicked in.
@@AggressiveMenace yet we never understood why the theme song was different from the cartoon.
2:00 is, as I once heard explained, the only time you'll ever hear a musical question mark
underwater music was always my favorite music in this game.

So many great compositions, Jun Funahashi doesn't get enough praise for the tracks he composed on this game!
@Nikos8BitStereo not in the slightest. Highly underrated
you can't tell me that 11:34 was not inspired by the Beatles' Come Together
I was about to say the same thing.
100% nostalgic feelings here now 😎I love this old school video games music

Great add Niko!! Finally one from closer to the bottom of the oldest to newest list!!!!
I created the dam water level on super mario maker in 2015 or 2016. Turned out pretty good too.
I would love to hear your water theme on Mario music maker!
Say all the bad things you want about this game (I did enjoy it as a kid), but you have to admit, this soundtrack is simply amazing.

This revamp is totally radical and one of my favs on the Nes. Great job! I’m listening to this on my Switch Oled and it sounds wonderful!
Nice on, and thank you, hope you enjoy the many other great OST's here!

G reat soundtrack and game when it came out for its time period 1980s
The first time i played this the intro was perfect.
Thank you for restoring some of the best memories ever!
You're most welcome, hope you enjoy more soundtracks here that you have memories of! :)
The best game I've played since childhood!
Easily one of my favorite games from my childhood.
Oh sure cowabunga collection rewind and learning to use Raphael in mid air or close quarters for his short range to be DPS helps a ton.
When I was 8 I played this game at my neighbor’s house & it was tricky
@MikeFsGamingCorner oh yeah don't play on original hardware 🤣 that is torture. I got ran over by a foot clan tank in 3 seconds as you have to hit it from the side with Donatello's reach
This time I'm playing it in cowabunga collection on the switch
Jun Funahashi, we salute you!
The title part, beginning at 0:07, sounds like Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy". Crazy, indeed.

Rad! Hell yeah
I'm getting flashbacks from this insanely hard game
Ah, my childhood.
6:48 when you finally find your keys
9:03 crazy ahh stage
13:23 crazy ahh stage 2
Yusssss!!!
We are also waiting for TMNT Arcade Game, TMNT Manhattan Project and TMNT Tournament Fighters
I liked it better when the previous cover art has each turtle with their respective mask color, even though it's not the official cover, but this one is.
I know, the aesthetically pleasing part of me wanted to use it again, but the purist and dedicating to the original part of me will always win.
The Official Europe Version for this game is changed name. Its name is "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles".
Till this day, love the underwater swimming theme. Hard like crazy, but TMNT was fun back then as I can remember!!!
9:03 most underwater music is relaxing, this is the opposite
Real talk: The intro theme would've been better for the show, even if the show itself still aged badly.
COW-A-BUNGA~!
