    Hi Rachel!
I feed my dog kibble and have listened to your advice and have been adding fresh food to go along with it,. As much as I'd like to give them a fresh raw food diet, some of the subscriptions I see online is just not within my budget. But, I do try my best to make up for it by trying to add other fresh ingredients using food toppers, whether it be some freeze dried organ meats and/or vegetables like carrots. However, I would definitely love to learn more about what type of kibble or which kibble brand would be best if you were to feed them to your dogs.

Good for you. Keep an eye out for sales of on things to add like turkey necks and backs, wing tips, sardines, osters, muscles, eggs, gizzard, liver, ect. Walmart has great sales on muscle meet making it just as inexpensive as kibble by comparison.

I’m in the same boat. I try to add in as much good stuff as possible within my budget and I’m trying to at least find the best kibble possible and then add in the toppers, fresh foods and meats. It’s not because I want to feed kibble, but the other stuff is more than I spend on my own food for a week. I do research, but it’s so overwhelming.

I would recommend looking at the WSAVA guidelines and making sure whatever kibble you choose can answer those questions. And make sure you can either find the actual answers on their website or reach out to the brand directly to get the answers. There are several brands out there who claim to meet WSAVA guidelines but in fact do not.

Hi Rachel, I know you probably get a lot of this but I'm going to tell you a little bit of my story. My dog and I were just recently homeless here in Baltimore to get away from abuse and a very toxic environment. Then my uncle put us in a hotel and on November 20th I had an episode of asthma exasperation which led me into a seizure which then triggered cardiac arrest and I died for 15 minutes. I was in the hospital for a month and a half but now I'm struggling with feeding my fur baby and it's breaking my heart so if there's anyway you or anyone else can help I'd be greatly appreciative. The entire time I was writing this I was crying. BTW I have permanent brain damage from what happened and I have a bunch of other health problems but the one thing that she helps with are my seizures she senses them ahead of time and after she licks me and brings me right out of the seizure. Ty so much for hearing me out

I’m a new college grad, so my budget isn’t huge for my doggo, but, I try to do hybrid. Half kibble, half fresh foods. Variety of green beans (frozen, so low sodium), carrots, peas, blueberries, raspberries, low fat yogurt, and cucumbers. Then I do cooked chicken or turkey. I also add some broths from Nulo. I love Nulo toppers!

Hi Rachel, I want to thank you for being so open about your choice to feed your dogs raw food and for sharing your knowledge with us. After watching so many of your videos I decided a few months ago to put my dogs on a fully raw diet and I am very happy with my decision. I get a lot of negative feedback from the vet about raw diets, so there are times that I feel like I maybe made a bad choice and I feel guilty and worried, but then I watch your videos and I feel reassured and it reminds me why I decided to do it. Thank you!! 💗

👍👍Awesome info! I’ve been feeding raw to our all different dog breeds since 2006, never had a sick dog or had salmonella (any of us). We wash our hands & dishes just like if we were cooking chicken or beef for ourselves. The Pros of raw feeding are numerous, less poop, no smelly poop, glossy coats, whiter teeth, no smelly breath/fur ❤ we also add Camelina oil to his food, he hardly sheds at all 😎👍👍👏👏 Thanks for all your great information, from Saskatchewan 🇨🇦✌️

Yes to all the video ideas about converting to a raw food diet and how to DIY the food. Been cooking ground meat to replace 20-30% of their kibble, but know I need to be doing more and making sure its well balanced. We've sometimes used a supplement/topper/probiotic from Super Gravy. They make 3 formulas/flavors and my dogs love them all, but only when mixed with water. 1 of my dogs doesn't always eat as soon as the food is put down and his kibble gets soggy, so its not been a good fit for him. Just found you so I'm off to binge on your content and see what I can implement.

Hi Rachel! I've tried numerous ways of feeding my dogs from your suggestions. Every time my dogs end up with diarrhea or vomiting. I'm not sure what's going on. I've tried the bone broth and the raw goats milk plus other things to no avail. I now use a high quality dry kibble from a family farm in Canada called First Mate. My dogs like it and their tummies are happy!!!

Great video with lot's of useful information. As usual. ;0) I am fortunate enough to have been able to make the switch to raw food for my dogs about 10 months ago. The changes have been amazing in their coats, teeth, energy level and overall health. They are super excited at meal times. I finally feel good about what I am feeding my dogs. I used to drive myself crazy trying to find the "perfect" kibble until I realized that there is NONE. The only thing I would like to see is more support for companies that can start packaging their foods and treats in more environmentally friendly containers. That would be even better, as I do avoid potentially great products if the packaging is not recyclable, or better yet, biodegradable. Kudos to the companies that are trying. Thanks so much for all your great videos Rachel. I thoroughly enjoy listening to them, as they are full of wonderful and practical information

Rachel! You may or may not see this comment but I found your site while I was sitting in traffic in my hometown of Boston , so I had plenty of time to watch this video! lol . I have a very picky dog Brody
He is a beagle, American bulldog and Cataula leopard dog mix. Anyway I thought but it was all my fault and he didn't like what I was making or sick of it. I was trying to feed him homemade food. He only likes to eat at night. It got to the point he wouldn't eat until after I went to bed and sometimes I would wake up and the food was till there...UNTIL I made eating fun... I guess. He is the only dog we have and we both work. Granted my husband works from home but down in the finished basement . So Brody doesn't see him. I do send him to daycare for half days a couple of days a week to break up the week for him. But I know he gets bored. I saw this video and bought the what I call the blue "maze" bowl . He is 65 pound's . My husband thought it would be too small. But I am happy to report he eats every night now around dinner time. He no longer lies next to the bowl for minutes on end hoping it gets exciting . He dives in and then eventually lies on his belly lounging while he eats. It doesn't hold enough for him so I put in a little more if he is looking for it and eventually he finishes that too! It has made Momma happy. I don't stress out now worrying if he is even going to eat . And waking up and stressing out when I go into the kitchen and see the food still there. I did buy the metal one you also show but this one is the winner according to Brody. Thank you so much for being here. I love your videos. I just need to watch them while I have time and not while I am driving . HAHA.

Ok.. First off THANK YOU for so much information!! I love it. We just got an 18 month Goldendoodle to help comfort our daughter who has recently started having seizures. Our last baby was a small poddle mix rescue who suddenly started having seizures and passed away rather suddenly so this time around I'm trying to make sure I am learning the healthiest practices for our new pup to keep her happy and healthy! That being said, what raw foods are safe to start giving her right away? This is her second full day here Even if I order a food what can I do on the meantime?

I am curious if giving raw food begins as a puppy or if we are supposed to wait for any reason? 10 years ago, I made a raw food diet for our 18 month old adopted rescue who had a weakened immune system, leaky gut and allergies galore. I would love to know more about DIY raw food diets and what your thoughts are on Dinovite powder? We used raw 80/20 hamburger meat, hard boiled eggs with the shells on, coconut oil and the Donovite brand powder. DIY raw food saved us money vs raw food from the pet store, or expensive kibble with ingredients we didn't know if we could trust over our dogs lifetime. Love your content and especially your talks with holistic vet. ❤Thanks!❤

Puppies can eat raw right after weaning! It’s actually better for them to start right away as their digestive system is able to tolerate raw food a lot easier than processed! I have my puppy on a raw grind from BJ’s Raw Food and add a chicken wing or duck head for a bit more calcium, and some salmon and a little bit of the Earth Animal Raw supplement powder to fill in any missing nutrients and she does really well!

For all the kibble feeders (I'm one due to financial constraints) Orjen and Acana are incredible options, their ingredient panel is impressive and made with the best protein sources and ingredients. My Mexican rescue dog Diego had digestive, skin and coat issues but now after being on Acana for 4 months (I noticed a change after a few weeks) his skin, coat, digestive issues are the healthiest its ever been ❤️ I also mix in a bit of wet food (Zignature) 1 can split up into four meals a week for hydration and extra tasty goodness that Diego just loves. He's only 11 months old and eventually once I'm in a financially better position I'll switch him to a raw food diet. Definitely no need to feel guilty for feeding your fur baby kibble just make sure you do your homework and read the ingredient panel first before purchasing.

I would like more info on how to transition from kibble to fresh food

    • @kristaanne2144
      @kristaanne2144 ปีที่แล้ว

Paws of Prey has great info on how to transition, you can do raw snacks first or toppers to see how your dog responds, then do half raw half fresh or if your dog has a super sensitive stomach go 10% raw and increase by 10% each day til fully raw. If you have a puppy you can switch right over without too many issues as puppies are much more resilient. I transitioned my puppy pretty fast by doing partial freeze dried raw partial raw blend from BJs Raw Food, and a chicken wing as a snack for more calcium, and then decreased the freeze dried over a few days and now just leave a bit out as a snack if she wants. Hope this helps!

Yes, would love to see your reviews on some kibble. Would love to feed raw but cant at the moment so have been doing research on best kibble but there’s so many! Have been adding fresh food, goats milk and some freeze dried patties s to not entirely do kibble.

Hi Rachel, we are currently feeding our dog Jinx Dry Dog Food. He looks like he is gaining too much weight. We decreased that amount we feed him but still looks that same. We currently give him the Jinx Grain Free Salmon Sweet Potato Carrot. He has now gotten to the point that he isn’t really interested in it anymore. We would like to switch him to fresh food but they are too expensive at the moment. So we are thinking of maybe giving him half kibble and half fresh. Could you please recommend a few different kibble brands that you would recommend or freeze dried food? Can you also let me know if Jinx is a good kibble brand or not?

Any help with ideas and necessary supplements would be so helpful right now! I also added 1 egg per pound of meat and started to crush up the egg shells for calcium. She is loving it to say the least 🐾🐶🥬🎃

    Your videos are so informative!
I feed my dog small batch lamb freeze dried food. She doesn’t seem to get full on the daily recommended amount and she doesn’t like any fresh food or produce so I can’t mix in. Only thing she will eat is honest kitchen kibble mixed in but I don’t like all the potatoes in it. We also did food allergy testing and she has a high allergy to all animal liver. It’s in all the healthy foods. Any suggestions?

And I have a 6mo old Chihuahua puppy who is just a finicky eater. I have tried 2 different kibbles and she still isn't happy. We have to encourage her to eat. I know alot of people who feed their Chihuahuas Tums due to stomach issues. Would love to know more to help my tiny friends

We successfully switched our puppy to raw (got her at 9wks, she’s now 18wks) and she isn’t loving it the way she was in the beginning! Any tips for helping your dog eat at mealtime? So far what’s working consistently is breaking up her favorite dehydrated chicken and mixing it in with her raw food. My other dog is on a high quality lightly cooked fresh food and she LOVES that. At what point do I just give in and let her eat that instead of raw? I want the benefit of raw but I also want her to love her food!

The best kibble type food in my opinion is Carna4. Which is actually not the typical kibble, but in kibble form and more healthier. Since you have a puppy, make sure to get the “Easy chew.” version.

I would love a video on a good complete meal to homemake for my dogs.
Right now I use the great planes Nutri source bag which is 60 something for a 15lb bag and like 90 for a 30lb bag. I go through the 15lb in a week! I want to start home making my dogs food because all the brands I have found for raw or fresh are like 130+ a week for my two dogs.. which was actually the lowest best price.
I already meal prep all my own meals and homemaking my dogs food would be easy and with what I calculated should be like $40-60 a week which would be possibly be the same as what I’m paying now but more importantly HEALTHIER FOR THEM and more enriching!
I have a upcoming 8 yr old German shepherd mix and a 11 month old female border collie. They are my world and I want to make sure they have the best, happiest, healthiest, life they can.
