I read Dr Ian Billinghursts Give your dog a bone 25 years ago and have never fed my dog commercial food since. I have argued with my Vet over the decades about kibble and now also about vaccination. Thank you for affirming my choices. PS have raised beautiful healthy large breeds who have enjoyed variety in their diets.
17:40 A better diet definitely affects their behavior. Aren't you cranky when you don't feel good? Or hungry? Dehydrated? And they can't just say, "Hey Mom. My tummy hurts. I have a headache! I'm hungry...I know that I just ate and pooped, but I am hungry again already!" Im positive that it'll make a difference! I have bought my last bag of kibble. And my dogs already love Fresh Pet, so I am sure they are going to love an all raw/fresh diet. They are elderly already (almost 13 & almost 16) and they will LOVE it!!! Thanks for all the information and advice. The interviewer asked great questions, and the Dr answered everything very well. Excellent interview, very informative and helpful!
17:00 THIS is happening with my 11 month old doodle after switching from kibble to homemade food with some raw. I'm still learning how to formulate but wow is his coordination and comprehension already so much better! Never going back ❤️❤️ Thank you for empowering people with access to the healthiest info! Our furbesties deserve the best too🤗🤗
@@les3259 The first youtuber that reignighted the passion to feed raw was @Loulou & Friends. The way she feeds her dachsunds was amazing and full of love and wisdom. I'm proud of us! I LOVE @Paws of Prey too!! I'm sooo grateful to have them to learn from! I love that we can gain more quality time with our fur babies through this journey. That is priceless.
There’s a family slaughter house few miles from my place, I go there early morning, owner just tell me grab what you want in the trash. Doesn’t look like much to human, but for my dog, it’s like heaven. Lamb, cow, and chicken organs and unwanted parts. My Belgian malinois is 12 now, and she still roll like she is 5 years old. You want to take it further with longevity, fast your baby twice a week. Let her organ rest and reset, you’ll have a happy long life puppy as a companion.
@@JL-wm6jb 24 hours, Monday and Friday. That’s when I fast too. Water only. Rest of the days, it’s all organs , eggs, bone, fish, beef, chicken and lamb. Absolutely no pork.
Feeding raw is transformative for animal health! I follow the prey model raw with added omegas and it is so worth it! If you aren’t comfortable giving a balanced meal, start with premade raw and balanced meals! Thanks for sharing the convo!
Ah! I didn't know I need to keep the kibble in its original bag! I feed 80% Raw. I just can't let the kibble go. Idk why. It's excellent quality but ... I need to get rid of it completely. After watching this I'm convinced to go 100% Raw/ homemade. Thank you for this awesome video! Most people think us raw feeders are killing our dogs. Maybe this will help more people feed their animals healthier.
I had been thinking about feeding raw for awhile. Now I'm convinced. We love our dogs and want to make sure that live long happy lives!!!! Thanks Rachel and Dr. Morgan for taking the time to perfect the diet our dogs can be healthy! 😘😘
My pour dog Miko was diagnosed yesterday with MCT cancer. I started her and her sister on the ketovore diet. I got them a really good healthy kibble. Im giving them beef stew meat, sardines in water, pink salmon cand. Skin and bone are included in the salmon. Beef liver, chicken gizzard and bone broth and a very small slice of bacon.
My dog wouldn't eat half of that. She's new to me. What do you do with picky eaters? She was fed commercial raw food. The sample they gave me stinks. I'm trying to transition her to home-cooked. I don't trust raw if it originates in a slaughter house or commercial facility. I live in the suburbs. No livestock allowed and I couldn't kill them if I had them.
@oldladyfromnm7590 try that for like 3 days, then slowly trade out the rice and chicken with something else. Dogs can get fat of too much rice, but it's good for a few days to help transition to new foods. It's also good when they are sick.
Helps if you have a local group to buy bulk from a meat company. I did this for a collie and it extended his life when diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Next time I would feed more Tripe. Turkey/chicken bones are softer and a semi thawed turkey neck acts as a natural tooth cleanser. Good luck to all starting RMB.
My ES has had a great additional 5 years, after I almost lost him due to feeding just "quality" kibble. I had no idea about kibble till he started failing at 4!!! Now I know. He's so much healthier than he ever was before... zesty and full of life!
Thank you for this interview with Dr Judy! We adopted 2 cavapoo puppies last week. Feeding raw and gently cooked is scary because of not giving them a balanced diet. Understanding what they need and the science behind it very helpful. For instance I didn’t know that dogs need zinc. We have ordered multiple foods from sources on your website. Waiting for shipments. I’m confused about what kind of bones to feed our little dogs so that they won’t break their teeth or choke on them. A video on bones for different size dogs would be helpful. Thankfully we watched the video on spaying and neutering! We didn’t realize how harmful they can be. We have a girl and a boy dog so we have to do something. We are looking into ovary sparing spaying. Thank you again! ! !
appreciate you, and consider it done! Here's a video on raw bone types: th-cam.com/video/pA_xbZskHTg/w-d-xo.html and I already have a video scheduled dedicated to raw bones coming soon!
@@RachelFusaro thank you for such a quick reply. I’ve watched so many of your videos, I think of you as a go to expert friend. Puppies are different. Lol. In the past we adopted older dogs. Training 2 at the same time is a challenge, but not impossible as some experts say. Learning their individual needs is the key. One note on potty training these two. We temporarily fenced in a nice area of our yard off of our front porch as the designated potty area so that frequent day and night time Potty breaks would be easier and they would associate why they were there. It was hit or miss The first few days. Sometimes they would go quickly, sometimes after the third trip in an hour they would go. Sometimes they would pee or poop in the house as soon as we went in. After a few nights They started going to the porch gate every time we set them in the grass and wouldn’t even try to do their business. We were exhausted and frustrated. It dawned on me that the grass was wet at night and early morning because of dew. We have an area with palm trees and sand in our back yard. We started taking them there and we are successful almost every time. They knew what to do but hated the wet grass. They love to play and run in our yard when it’s not wet. I thought this may help other exhausted parents. You may have a video about this that I haven’t seen.
Actually one time my dog pooped out a bone chard from a duck wing 1.5 inches long. I believe the duck wing was either too dense for her or I fed too much one at once. There is only so much stomach acid available. She has no problem with chicken wings and is not a gulper and has eaten raw for many years. Lesson learned... the stomach acid may not always take care of a bone if too much bone is fed or it is too dense for the dog.
24:00 My dog was one of these dogs that didn’t want to eat raw food. My senior dog loved it but my younger one didn’t. We went through many other types of food because he was extremely picky. He never enjoyed eating at all. Recently, he just started eating raw but I took a slow process of a month and a half. But it was completely worth it. He loves eating now and he has more energy and his teeth are getting whiter. So definitely worth the change!
I guess like any intelligent being, change can be a process but well worth it. Is the dog u speak of in the pic? (great hair) Small dogs usually have terrible and crowded teeth. No doubt a natural diet greatly improves dental health too.
I am trying to move to raw and struggling to find food they want to eat. My dog will only eat raw tripe so far...... am currently at a loss right now and not happy having to bounce from raw to not right now and back again after getting over the fear of feeding raw
PLEASE... Don't feed dogs sardines packed in oil! It's highly processed, cheap, high Omega-6, GMO oils, like canola, corn, soy... Go with 💧 water based sardines. They have their own perfect Omega-3 oil, without the added highly inflammatory omega 6 seed/"vegetable" oils. 🙂
Wow! I asked this question on another video. Can dry carb food make a dog present like AdHd. You answered in this video.. Thank You!! I will now be educated to go talk to my friend about his doggle. And her DRY kibble. It's getting hot out and she don't touch it till midnight. He does empty it into a plastic dog food bin without the bag .
I LOVE BOTH OF YOU FOR THIS!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME FIGURE OUT WHAT'S THE BEST FOR ME TO DO FOR MY BABIES. MY ❤IS FOREEEVVER GRATEFUL! It has taken me many yrs. to learn UNFORTUNATELY THE HARD WAY after losing one of my sweetest babies to colon cxr. I wasn't even able to give him a sending off meal of a fat juicy steak that he loved so much because he couldn't defecate. This broke my heart and I never want to put my dog through this ever again.❤
Damn guilt messes with us always. Be kind to yourself. We didn't know. We were told so many falsehoods... and so much has been hidden from pet owners... All we can do now is to study and learn and hope we are getting accurate info.
@@annadonahue4119thank you for your kind words! Yes, we dont know what we dont know! In this age of info.theres no reason not to be wise and do our research and trust our own intuition. All we can do is do our best ❤❤❤
I offered the pup lamb heart today. She wouldn’t even give it try. Even when I tried to hide it in ground she turned up her cute little nose. It was organic and fresh. I had to eat it myself. Tastes like lamb, a little chewy. Channeled my inner Aztec/ Viking.
Takes awhile for them to get used to the smell and the taste. Patience and persistence is required. It's worth it. There is every chance you pup will live longer on a raw meat diet. Same for cats. Not a vet - a pet mum who's cat lived to 18+ on a raw meat diet.
As a kid, my parents and siblings still at home always had lots of organ meat and odd cuts of meat, as my older sister was married to a farmer who butchered his own critters, but wouldn't eat the "odd" pieces. Those odd pieces tasted good and I'm sure we got lots of good nutrition from eating them. Sis was generous and Mom was a good cooker! Stuffed heart ❤ Tongue sandwiches 😋
@Whistlewalk do you have any recipes for cats that you can share please. We have our cat on prescription food because of past history of strubite crystals. We are look for other kinds of food but my husband is a little nerves. Don't want another episode of this, plus surgery. Thanks
Can I just say I am deeply impressed that you take your dogs health and happiness as serious as your own and that even though you choose not to eat meat, you will still source that meat for your dogs needs. I know it has to be a struggle to handle that sort of thing for you but putting your dogs needs first is so good to hear
I am in the same boat. I have been a vegan for seven years, just got a puppy, and I am looking into local meat co-ops. It is definitely "scary" as I have not even looked at a meat counter at the grocery store in years
I changed my two labs to raw ground chicken and turkey with veggies and ground turkey with veggies. They are over the moon at their meals. They were previously on 4Health kibble and did ok, but now they love mealtime! And they get a lot of variety.
Hi, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Our online, loved vet, mentioned its best not to leave food in the original bag because the liner can leak toxins.
When I was a kid back in the 70s, our dogs ate everything. Table scraps, canned food, an occasional fish, rabbit or squirrel and they were always healthy 🤷♀️ Dogs in general were healthier. Goes to show you all the shit they put in all their shots and food now is making them sick. Just like what they're doing to people.
There was no GMO's back then, and we were all healthier!!! Back then, we could feed cheap dog food, with everything you mentioned above. People need to wake and we need to pull together and demand to be rid of these GMO's in the US.
I feed my dog ready made raw from a dog food tripe factory various types of animals available but i add diced carrot and broccoli also egg (raw or boiled) and grind the shell and add also. She loves it.
I'm glad to have come across your channel! I was looking up eco safe detergent lol! I'm sharing this. I cannot convince my friends to stop using cheap industrial off-the-shelf brands w corn syrup, grains, fillers, high heat, highly processed pet food. Dead food means disease and early deceased pets, but they criticize me for feeding my dogs once a day, home made meals.
TY TY TY, this is the video I wanted to see. I'm going to switch my 2 GSD's over to a raw diet they are 2 years old, and I am hoping to get more than 13 years with them. It is really hard to lose a pet that is a part of your family that you really love. Dogs used to live up to 30 years old, and 20 years was the norm until dog food companies started making dog food. I want to go back to the old ways, where farmers used to feed their dogs raw meat and organs plus table scraps. I just didn't know what exactly to feed them. Raw dog food you order is soooo expensive it is ridicules, screw them I want to raise my own organics like goat’s sheep, or rabbits. I raise my own organic vegetables and fruits now, and I am getting into raising my own grass fed organic meats like beef, chicken, and pork, but my dog is allergic to beef chicken and turkey unbelievable right but still I'm not going to pay the rape prices food companies charge now. So, can I substitute lamb or goat for chicken? I am assuming that I can? I am not poor, I can live in this country just fine, but I am just not going to pay those prices. Furthermore, I have over 100 acres where I can raise my own livestock and fruits and vegetables, and grains, which I am going to do for me and my family. You can't trust the meat and vegetables that are in the grocery stores now any ways because they have the mRNA shots and are GMO.
21:00 talking about allergies- when my dog was a puppy, he was super waxy and I had to bathe him regularly The lady at the pet store suggested he might be chicken intolerant. So I switched him to either beef or lamb and the last 5 years he’s been good and not waxy My question is, if I switch him to a home made meal plan, should I still avoid chicken? I’ll give him pieces of my dinner, but not as much as he gets on steak nights for example I don’t know if it’s the chicken processing or the chicken itself he’s intolerant to
51:00 question answered! Thank you! My dog came from a farm and had giardia when he came home with me. It took a couple months to finally get rid of it. That, along with the processing of bagged food made of chicken probably attributed to his waxy coat I’ll start giving him more of my chicken more often and see how he does. Thanks ladies!
You two have been WONDERFUL 🔥I saw different video, and followed same instructions from them, Use very good blender with raw Meat whether beef chicken lamb or fish,Add good portion of broccoli head, carrots,Left out pumpkin,But I will do yogurt,Chopped up all pretty fine,Mixed in large bowl and used small scoop portions,Placed in zip lock bags,Freezed, I know plastic is not good,He used several other ingredients, etc.for more vitamins and minerals, I had enough left to try on my Datsun,Pan fried in small amount of coconut oil, Let it cool ,Fed it to her ,By hand ,She would have probably choked in down,Small Portions by hand, I’ve never seen a happy or more comforted pet in my life ,It’s trouble,Have to wash everything very carefully afterwards,But for that response,I’ll do it again,Expensive Dry Food almost had us at the Vet✅I pray this works🥹 THANK YOU SO MUCH 🌹
This is so helpful! Thank you! Our Bronson is an American Bulldog who is 13 yrs and has been on prescriprion of allopurinol for the last 6 yrs as well as prescrption u/d food. I will stop prescrption food and would like to stop his allopurinol but not recommended by his vet. It is hard when vets buy into big pharma mentality. 😟
Hi Rachel, thank you for the great content! I am transitioning my dog to raw, but she prefers her food warm. Dr. Morgan mentioned that you need to feed the food warm, body temperature in fact, but she didn't say what are the different ways you can do that. I know that some of the nutrients in fresh raw food are sensitive to heat. Is it possible to warm up my dog’s raw food mixing it with hot water or bone broth? I think that it will be better than taking her food out of the fridge to bring it to room temperature slowly. I would appreciate your input on this matter.
Kymythy Schultz in her raw feeding nutrition book recommends adding some warm water to the raw food to bring up the temp. She says do not microwave. I sometimes put mine into a warm water bath while it’s still in its container to bring the temp up.
I recently started feeding my puppy Oma’s Pride raw dog food. They are located in Avon CT and ship it frozen to your home. I am very satisfied with the price and quality.
Hi Ladies I use Sojos veggie and add the protein Meat plus 1/2 cup of their dry into bowl. My girls are Both service for my multiple disabilities my 3yr old won't eat squash or kale without at least steamed.
I appreciate this content so much as I attempt to navigate raw feeding for my two small dogs; one 16 week old puppy and one 10 year old. I would love to know how you feel about Primal Nuggets and if that is a good choice of store-bought raw food? Is it balanced enough to not to add other vitamins or supplements? I would like to get started following Dr. Morgan's homemade raw diet soon but need to source all the proper ingredients before I can get started. Thanks so much for all this good information in the meantime!! 😄
For zinc, how much chopped/ground raw pumpkin seed, beyond the recommended ¼t/10 pound of bodyweight as an antiparasitic, would one need to include daily? In intervals? Does just red meat have zinc? Just learning. Thank you for the pancreatic cooked fat note.
Turmeric is high in oxylates! If the turmeric was removed with curcumin remaining that would be fine. Sally K Norton Cornell educated nutritionist book Toxic Superfoods is highly informative.
I have two rescue pups. Both came from horrible beginnings. I started my pups with the same brand of raw freeze dried mixed with frozen. It was a perfect transition and mixing with the freeze dried warmed the food more quickly. I put out the frozen which was defrosted overnight in my fridge, then added warmed NOT HOT home made bone broth and then added the freeze dried for that crunch they were perhaps missing from kibble. I added more of the raw to their kibble each week until they were on completely raw. This routine helped to transition them without any issues. My fist pup was adopted 11 years ago And my second 10 years. They are aprox 15 and 12 years old now. My one pup who is 12 has chronic pancreatitis. I believe due to bad dental issues. Unfortunately my vet did not diagnose this and had me have her teeth cleaned twice a year but without anesthesia. Finally I read an article on dental disease and realized she needed much deeper cleaning. I took her to a specialist and sure enough she had lot of infection deep beyond the gum line. She had to have 12 teeth extracted and I believe this was the cause of her pancreatisis. I’m still dealing with this issue and for now had to transition her to lightly cooked. I’m doing my best to keep her remaining teeth intact but honestly she was much more healthy on the raw diet. So this is my dilemma should she have all teeth extracted or do I do my best with dental treatments and keep her on the lightly cooked? Even brushing her teeth makes her nauseous. My other pup who is older than her and the same breed Mini Schnauzer is thriving on completely raw and basic dental Cleaning. .
I can't see if you ever got an answer, but one idea...I am going today for a meat grinder. This would make all the raw meat soft, including bones. So this might also be a solution for your baby with teeth problems.
Hi Nancy Thank you for reply! no I didn’t get an answer but the raw food is already ground. I think gently cooked is much easier for her to digest. My other pup is still on raw and doing great.
I’ve called all around in a city 110 miles from me. No one I talked with is practicing integrative much less holistic veterinarian medicine. I had one vet office tell me if I were feeding a “raw” diet they would not see my dog!! Beyond my understanding! It’s just not rocket science but also “my” preference and choice. The vet we see is young and new practicing on her families ranch. She claims kibble is perfect because she toured the factories during vet school and was sooo impressed by their research and produce!! Any suggestions are appreciated.
THANK YOU LADIES! Feed my Digs Raw, but I am sharing thus for people that still don't know the truth, or don't want to bother. To me Raw is the easiest, fastest, freshest, and The Best way to Feed them!
Hello, if I may ask a question, my dog is was on a canned prescription diet for about 4 years, after we had her eating Kangaroo wet canned food for about 5 years before that( one day she just wouldn't eat it anymore) Prior to the prescription ZD diet Meadow had years of itching and scratching and red inflamed skin, lick granulomas- you name it. She was allergic to every protein we had her on. The kangaroo did well until it didnt, she just stopped eating it. The prescription canned dog food hit the same wall about a year ago. It has a gross texture like Flan, and gel- like so I added fresh soft cooked vegggies, that a slightly better. Than that slowed down, so I had to add little bits of chicken (cooked) or beef but she is starting to itch again. I started Halo canned Vegan food. That texture is slightly better and if I add my own cooked veggies she will was eating it. Now we are at square one again. She does not like her food. She has allergies and needs noval protein, but I have no idea where to start. She has had Beef, venison, bison, duck, rabbit, turkey chicken, fish(hated) and I need help!!! Please help me or lead me to something I can feed this poor dog, She is 14 years old, has a high blood pressure but on meds. Ohterwise she is healthy
L♥️VE both of you! For DIY Raw is Room Temperature best, or slightly warmed and how would I warm it up? In oven at what temp for how long? Is yogurt in DIY Raw ok to slightly warm up when it’s in the DIY Raw mixture?
Thank you for all of your information and guidance! I have a question about nutritional imbalances. If my dog is eating meals that are complete and balanced, but they are having sweet potato each day as a treat, is that going to cause a vitamin a imbalance? Or does this only apply if you are DIYing and leaving things out?
This is the 3rd time watching this video. There is so much info I feel lk I take a little in each time. I'm still overwhelmed and having a hard time. Seems so much harder than it should be, but I'd really like to figure it out! I'm trying
Yes, that is my question, as well. Thank you for asking, also. It is so hard with a precious dog with diabetes. There has to be a way to get them healthier and extend lifetime. ❤.
Hi Rachel, I’ve got a 6 month old golden. He eats about half raw and half grain free kibble for puppies. Is there any reason he can’t start eating just raw food exclusively? (And a bit of gently cooked food and produce?)
Love your content! I have wondered something for a long time. Why are so many carnivore's thriving and reversing their chronic illnesses on a very limited diet of only animal foods? Kelly Hogan eats almost nothing but ruminant meats/animal foods and her labs say she is very healthy. Why can't dogs and cats be healthy on a diet of mostly meat as they would have in the wild? Mary Ruddick a premier nutritionist who studies indigenous cultures around the world says we need very little diversity in our diet to be healthy. I'm so curious about this and would love to see it addressed by the amazing vets and other practitioners you feature on your channel. Thanks Rachel!
Humans and dogs were scavengers so can be fine on just meat. Cats were fresh kill hunters only not scavengers and so need variety to mimic that hunting.
For anyone looking for raw meaty bones for puppies: I recommend chicken heads. My Italian greyhound puppy likes to gulp. At first, I was holding onto chicken wings as he chewed, but I had to hold them so tightly I thought I was going to get carpal tunnel 😮💨 Solution: Chicken heads. After defrosting, I remove the beak and chop the head in half. Heads are great for DIY raw diets because they also contain 2 secreting organs: brain (contains Omega-3s) and eyeballs (contains iron). If you can get ones with a few feathers attached, I guess that's really good for them too. My puppy loves it. First, he licks out the brain 🥴 Then he takes about 10 minutes to chew it up and eat it. For some reason, he always leaves behind the little bone behind the eye.
I checked a few grocery stores and no one has cheap scraps/ organ meats. Only chicken... livers or gizzard with hearts. And it's commercial grade which haunts me...
I get frozen raw primal when its on sale, or northwest natural chub when its on sale at chuck n dons... I never pay more than 5$ a pound.. i use no salt sardines, raw goat milk, organic greek yogurt, wild blueberries, beets, i also have grandma lucys pork artisan freeze dried food...
Thank you so much for this information.. I'm so grateful to have found you ladies!! What good probiotic can you recommend? I have large dogs (2 rescues) and an elderly shitzhu? Ive been feeding them all a mix of kibble mixed w cooked meat.. i haven't really given much veggies.. they do eat them raw (not alot) but i was always trained never raw and raw bones a no no because of choking..i ordered your book and will look up for some holistic vets here in NJ.. ❤
Does this include feeding dogs meats from grocery stores or does it need to be from a specialized store or a butcher? Thank you for all the fantastic information!
My dog just diagnosed with diabetes. I am disabled, she us ❤ ❤❤😢. Any diet outside of thecanned stuff from liver of pork and corn? Anything i can do to get her back to health. Kidney prescription dogfood caused the pancreatitis that eventually led to diabetes......
I have a little black n decker electric chopper/ food processor. So if its slimy, this is a One cup machine. Easy to clean. They can come in 3 settings, mine just has one... CHOP. it pulses so if you leep hitting the button, it can get Pate.. My dog likes pate with little chunks. So i do half to pate, then add the other half and just pulse it a couple times. Literally takes 30 seconds to prepare. Funny, i never thought to use canned oysters or sardines. Im very new to dog parenting. But i cooked for my kids like this. I had jars of ingredients on a tray in my fridge and id grab a few random ones each meal. Using it all in two or tgree days. Then refill them as they got rmptied. It was a no brain required activity. Make a cup of tea in the morning, waiting for it to steep, id check my jars. ( Small glass jelly jars. I washed and saved. Trappers jams i think, but 20 fit on the tray. And my fridge shelves pulled out so it wasnt a pain to get to them
How about raw vs gently cooked ? What are the differences pros and cons of each ? Honestly with the overflow of information I’m mostly just comfortable feeding gently cooked food to be safe
I have a Yorkie-poo . She is 3lbs 9ounces.I want to start a raw diet for her. How much of the recipe should I feed her. Can you give me some recipes also.
Human children eat cooked canned sardine bones without a problem so I don't think they would be a problem for your dog. They are much much softer than chicken bones.
Thank you for the interview with Dr. Judy! Can I ask a question about homemade food? For some reason, I‘m unable to feed 100% raw food, maybe 20% specific types of meat. As an alternative, I use Sous-Vide and try to make a mild-cooked food. I mix meats together and vacuum the bag and cook it every day. What is the perfect temperature for it? (I set 60c now) is it okay for the muscle and liver/other organs mix?
My dogs are eating AllProvide. What can I feed them when we go on vacation or even long day trips twice a week and I can't bring frozen dog food? I see some freeze-dried, dehydrated & baked foods on your list. Will changing their food even for a day hurt their digestive tracks. One has liver disease and the other one has kidney.
I really appreciate you talking about this because I dated an ex PetSmart employee that talked a whole bunch of absolute crap now that I've independently researched 🙄
I'm a former petsmart employee and yeah, the crap they teach them these days is just absolutely garbage. They had a program for a short time called the "pet food coach." You went through some little courses that actually had pretty good information and you were certified as a pet nutritionist. I took it beyond that. I got several animal nutrition books, books on dog and cat natural feeding, watched loads of videos. I was one of only 2 Petsmart Pet Nurtritionists in the district. I had people come from 4+ hours away to talk to me about their dog that was sick or was having problems and the vet's solutions just weren't working or were making it downright WORSE. I miss that job sometimes. I got to really help people and their pets, with quite a few pet parents even crediting me with saving their pets' lives. Sometimes I would have to spend up to an hour with them helping them find solutions for their pet. Almost always, there was a huge improvement and when there wasn't, we continued to work to find a solution until it was found. ... then I got my new store assignment. My new SL (store manager) was horrible. She repeatedly ruined whatever store she was put in charge of, but she was buddy-buddy with the District Manager. She didn't allow me to take time with pet parents to help their pets. She wanted me to take no more than 10 minutes per customer. Big problems take more than 10 minutes. She wanted me to push the corporate-sponsored brand-of-the-week garbage like Purina and Hills. I constantly got in trouble because I didn't push for up-sales and didn't require my cashiers to either. I educated my staff in pet care AND on register about better nutrition for pets and good recommendations we could make to help pets and pet parents. I'm not here to make rich people richer, I'm here to help pets and that means finding the right solution. I even talked about raw diet feeding which she HATED. She really hated when I had to bring my service dog with me to work (which I had corporate approval for but tried not to do every day if I thought I could handle it). I finally had to quit my beloved job when I got pregnant with my son and the doctor essentially told me "it's your job or your baby" because of the stress. Anyways, point being, they just don't train them like they used to. Now it's all "push Royal Canin because they paid us to be their spokesperson this month." Uhg.
We just took in a stray puppy, that my daughter found while hiking. The vet said he is probably 8 weeks old and a collie and retriever mix. We bought him a bag of Blue Buffalo puppy dry food. After watching this video, we want to move to a raw food diet. My question is, can we start by adding raw ground beef to him with his dry food? And if so, how much of each do you recommend? thanks.
You should defrost in fridge. If needed sooner, defrost in cold water but continue to check temp until the meat can be cut with a knife. It doesn’t have to be completely defrosted.

17:40 A better diet definitely affects their behavior. Aren't you cranky when you don't feel good? Or hungry? Dehydrated?
And they can't just say, "Hey Mom. My tummy hurts. I have a headache! I'm hungry...I know that I just ate and pooped, but I am hungry again already!"
Im positive that it'll make a difference!
Very thankful for more and more vets who are well researched and not indoctrinated! Thank you for this! ❤
17:00 THIS is happening with my 11 month old doodle after switching from kibble to homemade food with some raw. I'm still learning how to formulate but wow is his coordination and comprehension already so much better! Never going back ❤️❤️ Thank you for empowering people with access to the healthiest info! Our furbesties deserve the best too🤗🤗
Yeah same I’ve been looking at paw of prey channel and it really inspired me to homemake food.
Thank You to you, Rachel and Dr. Judy!!! This video is extremely needed, thanks to your generous sharing, globally!!
How long would you let your dogs fast for?
Your dog is lucky to have you as an owner.
@@JL-wm6jb 24 hours, Monday and Friday. That’s when I fast too. Water only. Rest of the days, it’s all organs , eggs, bone, fish, beef, chicken and lamb. Absolutely no pork.
@@theseekerndestroyerI’m shocked by how many people advocate pork…thank you for saying this
Feeding raw is transformative for animal health!
Rachel you move a lot does your chair swivel? I get motion sickness watching you. I Love your channel thanks for the information.
Oh do shut up ...what a stupid statement
@@oldladyfromnm7590 try boiled chicken with a small amount of rice.

My ES has had a great additional 5 years, after I almost lost him due to feeding just "quality" kibble. I had no idea about kibble till he started failing at 4!!! Now I know. He's so much healthier than he ever was before... zesty and full of life!
We just made our first batch of homemade dog food and we are so excited to keep going! Our dogs are already doing so much better
Are you willing to share your recipe?

That's what I do. I use my fresh duck eggs! @@theonewhomjesusloves7360
That's wonderful 👏
I guess like any intelligent being, change can be a process but well worth it. Is the dog u speak of in the pic? (great hair) Small dogs usually have terrible and crowded teeth. No doubt a natural diet greatly improves dental health too.

😂
As a kid, my parents and siblings still at home always had lots of organ meat and odd cuts of meat, as my older sister was married to a farmer who butchered his own critters, but wouldn't eat the "odd" pieces.
Those odd pieces tasted good and I'm sure we got lots of good nutrition from eating them. Sis was generous and Mom was a good cooker!

@Whistlewalk do you have any recipes for cats that you can share please. We have our cat on prescription food because of past history of strubite crystals. We are look for other kinds of food but my husband is a little nerves. Don't want another episode of this, plus surgery. Thanks
It took me a while to try raw…being a non meat eater 😂. But my little dog loves it and raw bones too. She’s very happy and I am too
Can I just say I am deeply impressed that you take your dogs health and happiness as serious as your own and that even though you choose not to eat meat, you will still source that meat for your dogs needs. I know it has to be a struggle to handle that sort of thing for you but putting your dogs needs first is so good to hear
I am in the same boat. I have been a vegan for seven years, just got a puppy, and I am looking into local meat co-ops. It is definitely "scary" as I have not even looked at a meat counter at the grocery store in years
This was great. Thank you. I've been feeding my cats raw and have been doing research on switching my dog to a raw diet.
I changed my two labs to raw ground chicken and turkey with veggies and ground turkey with veggies. They are over the moon at their meals. They were previously on 4Health kibble and did ok, but now they love mealtime! And they get a lot of variety.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Our online, loved vet, mentioned its best not to leave food in the original bag because the liner can leak toxins.
When I was a kid back in the 70s, our dogs ate everything. Table scraps, canned food, an occasional fish, rabbit or squirrel and they were always healthy 🤷♀️
Dogs in general were healthier. Goes to show you all the shit they put in all their shots and food now is making them sick. Just like what they're doing to people.
Yep
Yep, there is a lot money to be made. We have been grabbed by the doggies.
There was no GMO's back then, and we were all healthier!!! Back then, we could feed cheap dog food, with everything you mentioned above. People need to wake and we need to pull together and demand to be rid of these GMO's in the US.
👍🏻
During this video I got an ad for hills kibble- the irony is amazing 😂
Thank you sooooo much for your videos. You may or not know how much of a difference you are making ❤️❤️❤️
People will do that when they don't know, don't believe. Unfortunately some folks still have to learn thru their own mistakes. 🤷🏼♀️
21:00 talking about allergies- when my dog was a puppy, he was super waxy and I had to bathe him regularly
The lady at the pet store suggested he might be chicken intolerant. So I switched him to either beef or lamb and the last 5 years he’s been good and not waxy
My question is, if I switch him to a home made meal plan, should I still avoid chicken? I’ll give him pieces of my dinner, but not as much as he gets on steak nights for example
I don’t know if it’s the chicken processing or the chicken itself he’s intolerant to
51:00 question answered! Thank you!
My dog came from a farm and had giardia when he came home with me. It took a couple months to finally get rid of it. That, along with the processing of bagged food made of chicken probably attributed to his waxy coat
I’ll start giving him more of my chicken more often and see how he does. Thanks ladies!
The downloadable guide is very well done. Thank you! 🇨🇦

Try freeze dried raw dog food. All the nutrients and stored/fed at room temp.
Kymythy Schultz in her raw feeding nutrition book recommends adding some warm water to the raw food to bring up the temp. She says do not microwave. I sometimes put mine into a warm water bath while it’s still in its container to bring the temp up.

I love all of your videos but a quick question, how do dogs in the wild get Zinc?
Beef has zinc. Probably other red meats as well.
The CDC also made ridiculous claims regarding covid!
I wish I had an hour to listen to these videos!
What's the best diet for cats with bad arthritis?
My fist pup was adopted 11 years ago
And my second 10 years. My other pup who is older than her and the same breed Mini Schnauzer is thriving on completely raw and basic dental
Cleaning.

Thank you for all of your information and guidance! I have a question about nutritional imbalances. Hi Rachel, I’ve got a 6 month old golden. He eats about half raw and half grain free kibble for puppies. Is there any reason he can’t start eating just raw food exclusively? (And a bit of gently cooked food and produce?)
I have the same question.
Which is nutritionally balance for puppies 4 month and up
How much garlic is ok when making a weekly combined food batch to be divided?
For anyone looking for raw meaty bones for puppies: I recommend chicken heads.
My Italian greyhound puppy likes to gulp. At first, I was holding onto chicken wings as he chewed, but I had to hold them so tightly I thought I was going to get carpal tunnel 😮💨
Solution: Chicken heads.
I’m wondering if your dog is large or small. A mini-doxi is much different from a German shepherd
OMG 😳! I hope you're not allowed to have a gun 😂! Just kidding, that's pretty savage though
I thought chicken bones break easily, which is a big choking hazard
What is a good supplement to add to my dog food?
Dr. Mercola glandulars. Holistic Bin canine super greens, sunflower oil. Canned sardines and oysters in water.
Dr. Peter Dobias Green Min. I do not eat seed oils and I don't give toxic seed oils to my BFF.

Then refill them as they got rmptied. It was a no brain required activity. Make a cup of tea in the morning, waiting for it to steep, id check my jars. ( Small glass jelly jars. I washed and saved. Trappers jams i think, but 20 fit on the tray. And my fridge shelves pulled out so it wasnt a pain to get to them
I like that lady, she’s smart
How about raw vs gently cooked ? What are the differences pros and cons of each ? Honestly with the overflow of information I’m mostly just comfortable feeding gently cooked food to be safe
I have a Yorkie-poo . She is 3lbs 9ounces.I want to start a raw diet for her. How much of the recipe should I feed her. Can you give me some recipes also.
what about puréed raw smelt or sardines added to raw or gently cooked ( always wondered if the bones are ok cooked
Human children eat cooked canned sardine bones without a problem so I don't think they would be a problem for your dog. They are much much softer than chicken bones.
Thank you!!!
How do we combine the ingredients in the provided recipe? Great video i learned a lot. Thank you
Thank you for the interview with Dr.
One has liver disease and the other one has kidney.
my dogs loved steamed veggies
And if so, how much of each do you recommend? thanks.
I've been cooking my dogs food for most of his life, and she's in terrific health. However, this has convinced me to go raw starting tomorrow.
When you use the phrase gently cook what does that mean exactly how long are you cooking the items for
How to balance kibble with raw?
When u say “no fat drippings” are u also talking about Grassfed lamb drippings that I cook for my dog in my crockpot too?
i'm confused about the cooked fats bit - if you cook some beef or pork does the fat need to be cut off if its still fresh?
How long can you leave raw food out to warm up without bacteria growing ?
You should defrost in fridge. If needed sooner, defrost in cold water but continue to check temp until the meat can be cut with a knife. It doesn’t have to be completely defrosted.
