    Great review Shane 👍 another climb owner here so for me at the moment it boils down to what I want most to steer or the feel of the incline hopefully they will come up with a solution to integrate the 2

    Great,just received the non smart Sterzo version and this has been released. It does work superbly.
    To be honest I wish Zwift would spend more R&D on issues such as the several second lag,draft and dashboard customisation instead of the more “gamey” functions.

    Another perfectly timed great video by Lamamamamama!
    1. I thought riders in workouts couldn't draft anyone?
    2. My biggest disappointment is WHY I can't steer to select my route? Seems kinda silly. Let's hope that's another upgrade coming soon. Seems like you could do something in the software to recognize you want to go left or right at a junction in the road. Might be interesting when there are multiple junctions?

    I’m interested in how smart bikes will adopt/adapt this tech.

    • @robbybeauchamp
      @robbybeauchamp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this is mostly picking a lane rather than having to constantly baby-sit to keep on the road, simple buttons on the hoods/bars will do the trick. For the way it's set up for on the road riding, there's no real need for analog. On the dirt or such where keeping the line is part of the challenge the smart bikes will need to come up with some analog system to measure steering input rather than just a signal to switch lanes in the road.

    • @chriscope3522
      @chriscope3522 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robby Beauchamp agreed. I was just thinking about that. However, would that not present an advantage to that type of hardware in racing? Say the rider who is using a Stereto having a harder time not jumping off of their line vs the smart bike rider who has more precision to their lane choice and timing.

    This would be good for rolling turns, or the WTRL TTT.
    It's obviously a Gen Product, and future innovations would be cool to see. Maybe buttons that are retrofitted to your shifters to steer left and right.

    I think the thing that is an unexpected bonus to me is that it makes other riders solid, that will be the thing that changes racing. If they’d added the steering but you could still ride through people it wouldn’t have had nearly so much potential. That said it could prove interesting trying to navigate your way through a pack of riders!

  • @thenerdycanadian7172
    @thenerdycanadian7172 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what i'd like to see is for certain races to require constant steering instead of the "set and forget" lane position choosing it is now. for example if you don't steer for a corner you just end up riding along the edge of the lane.

  • @david131092
    @david131092 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tbf this is exactly what I’d hoped for - not really steering - more like a strafe or veer function. So you can switch to the other side of the road when attacking to break the draft! Nice!

  • @silvercyclist3744
    @silvercyclist3744 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A big win for Elite being first to market with smart steering. A day or so ago, I had no need for steering. Now I want one. I feel sorry for those that have forked out for a smart bike that doesn’t support steering via steering your handlebars.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well... there are others... but it was Elite who came to a commercial agreement with Zwift to implement steering with their unit. Smart Bikes will likely get steering via the buttons they have.

    • @silvercyclist3744
      @silvercyclist3744 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane Miller - GPLama buttons won’t be as good an immersive experience for me, in that respect I suspect a kickr core with the relatively cheap smart steerer would score higher than buttons on the smart trainer. I wonder if wahoo are developing a kickr climb with steering, that would be interesting lol. I think I’d probably fall if my bike using something like that.

    My first thought when you started doing that around other riders is. What the heck would they have been thinking with you going all over the road. Nice of you to let them know what was going on. Should users put a steering acronym in their name so everyone else knows that they have it? Or is there a indication that shows up on the other riders screen. As a runner i just worry about all the runners being ran in to by cyclists. :)

    What about on the hairpins of Alpe? is the inside line steeper? Do you need to put more power down than the outside

    didn't they previous introduce this to be used with your mobile phone movement detection technology for the off-road route without having to buy another device? Can't they bring that across to the road still using our mobile phone on the handlebars?

    I once hacked together ETS2 with my trainer and smartphone steering, was fun.

    I have been wondering why the NEO TRACK has never been mentioned with regards to steering blocks. Already has ANT+ connectivity. Anyway possible to connect with Zwift through ANT+/BLE bridge?

    Compatibility with Tacx NEO Track? Seems like it would be easy to implement.

    if it didn't give you the option for Repack ridge, have they turned it off completely, or is it available for legacy steering (non-smart)?

      It’s still there for Companion App steering. I didn’t have CA open.

    Hi Shane another great video I’m a new Zwifter only 1 week 4 rides old I’ve got a Brocken foot so stuck at home I’m a mtb rider I’ve got my bike set up on a kickr core I’ve downloaded the Zwift companion app got it work but when I ride titans to the exact spot where Repack Ridge is meant to be it’s not there no road off to the right ect I don’t think my companion app has enabled steering is that why? I have a Sterzo on order will that help once it’s connected ? I need help that’s the one thing I hate about Zwift no phone support to talk you through

    • @gplama
      @gplama  ปีที่แล้ว

      They've since removed Repack Ridge and replaced it with Repack Rush.

    • @alexmckenzie8186

      First of all Thankyou for replying to a nobody like me 🙏🏻But is it in the same spot ? Where is it what road leads to it or do I need to do dirt destroyer the problem is that Destroyer trail is ERG equipped and a hard slog
      I was never able to get steering through companion app let’s hope the sterzo solves my problem

    I wonder what the other rider sees when you steering back and forth across the road and into them. When my wife and I are riding side by side, sometimes I’m in a different position on her screen compared to mine. Does the other rider see what your seeing?

      I assume things have changed in-game given this scenario. I'll do a livestream soon and get into spectator mode of other riders... as I throw a few elbows at them. :)

    With steering you could really lower your times for segments and those hillclimbs

  • @jadeng5625
    @jadeng5625 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel like if they made it so that you did have to steer around corners, and it was a "free roam' kind of thing, that would be awesome. It would just add another layer of engagement.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It becomes very 'busy' to deal with. See GTBikeV for exactly this. I'm sure there's a middle ground somewhere.

    • @jadeng5625
      @jadeng5625 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gplama I could imagine so. I've never rode virtually with steering like that, so I personally don't know what it would be like. It would be cool if they had different options though, like GTBikeV.

    Hey Shane, just dropped 6K on the Wahoo smart bike (awesome) but no steering?? What do you think wahoo will do, if anything, to give it steering? Dusty

    • @gplama
      @gplama  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't stress. Steering is still 'beta' in Zwift... we don't know if it'll be a long term thing. They've said they'd implement Smart Bike steering. So the two buttons on the levers each side could easily be used for basic steering.

    Well I thought the 1st 20 minutes it looked okay but is it worth it and then wow when you were playing with the DIRT rider that was crazy but trouble is that for racing surely everyone must have one for it to be fair 🤔 😉
