Great video full of information as per the usual GPLama standard. Have you thought about putting out a Zwift vs The Competition in 2024 video? I'm really curious to see how MyWoosh has evolved given that it's hosting the UCI Champs soon. I always consider your views to be impartial 🙂 (ie. Not sponsored by Zwift or the UAE 😅)
I find the pricing a bit expensive. It used to cost 15 us dollars, now it's 20. I've opted out a year ago and been using just free tacx since. If they offer a special I might consider subscribing to zwift again
Agreed. Zwift have had ANT Di2 code in the game since forever. It has always been disabled. It'd be great to see them connect to Di2/SRAM/etc (via Bluetooth) for gear display and for low battery warnings!
Awesome update, thank you One question is there anyway with this blocking other athletes that can block everyone except for a few friends? I asked this because I just can’t deal with all the messaging that I’ve had and people following myself because of the Brain Injury and that’s why I’m running swift instead of outdoors . Keep up your great videos
I went 43,000km before I knew about the Everest challenge. Took another 8 or 9 months later to get it - thought it would count the already existing elevation, but it didn't or course. So, did like 93,000 to get one.
great info. Is there a bike which is faster on the flats than the Tron bike? I have 27 million drops to spend, but the last bike I bought - Time trial aero bike with Disk wheel etc I got dropped like a gel wrapper while riding the same power and riding with the same c group I usually ride with! I went back to the Tron bike and all was normal again - been a year
Any TT bike beats Tron on flat SOLO, but terrible in group because TT gets no draft. Fastest on flat that also drafts is Venge-S with discs, slightly faster than Tron but heavier. The differences are well charted on Zwift Insider but also very small, meaning 5-10 seconds over an hour. Bike choice is almost never why someone gets dropped 😉
Zwift should go a step further on the Everest Challenge default changes and retroactively credit people with all of the elevation they've climbed to date - and if they've met the 50000m just give them the bike. Since the Tron bike is an actual competitive advantage for racers (especially at lower levels), it shouldn't be withheld because someone didn't know about the cute little Easter egg.
Would be really nice to configure the dashboard in the companion app ( much as you can on any other head unit ) I really have no need for watts, my heart rate is what governs my speed😊😊 Also a count down to the the start of sprints or koms would be great as would a count down to the finish of sprint and Koms . Much as Strava does. Instead of which Zwift gives us cracks in the road 🙄🙄🙄
I know zwift doesn't seem to value runners as much, but we got some new routes too, please can you mention theses on update videos, it would make us zwift runners feel a bit more included Thanks
Shane can you test the accuracy of pedal based power pedals on a full suspension platform? (Comparing wheel-on trainer power vs pedal power may be the method). Sort of like dyno testing HP from the crankshaft and the wheels on a car. Theoretically a full suspension platform is less efficient, thus inaccurate physiological response to a given power, but no one appears to know by how much. @ Shane Miller - GPLama
No progress on the zwift workout API? Would be nice if there was a platform that could control workouts and provide a UI while also allowing API access to control the workout the way you want to control it. (I.e. not just provide a predefined workout but allow changes during the workout) This would allow remote real-time coaching (they can set the wattage target in the middle) and group workouts, etc
TriDot integration was one of the first to use this new API. Although from what I know about it, it’s not even at the level of workout sync Zwift have had with TrainerRoad for years. I wouldn’t expect the API to be open for anyone to use or accessible in real-time for changes during a workout.
Creating a good way to control workouts and have a good UI to keep people engaged is hard. Would love to have something that is flexible enough (API control) to allow xert workouts. I don't care about xert specifically, but having API access to play smart workouts fully would be the flexibility I'd love to have to allow other workout platforms to develop and have innovation in workouts. For example, allow someone to try and make workouts that change based on how you've done so far. How your alpha 1 responds, how your smo2 data responds. The amount of data to control a workout is small so easy to have an API an external process to talk to and not worry about efficiency (tcp/IP port, etc)
@@gplama thanks. Guess I'm just hoping someone does get that level of functionality. Just feels like lots of the sources of good workouts are not that good it terms of the UI i want to look at while doing a workout and lots of the good UI like zwift and similar apps aren't the best at the workouts they have.
Those challenges are a legacy feature. They really should be sunset. They've been effectively replaced with the monthly/regular challenges in-game presented on the homescreen.
that would be funny to have block riders in Racing you can't see them. you tow bath salts all the way to the line you did not know, you know what i mean. 😋😛😋

They call it augmented reality . Shane do you know if zwift is ever going to step up to augmented reality ? If they don't once people ride on Rouvy Zwift is going to lose a lot of people .
Rouvy is real video. It’s a very different thing with a whole host of limitations vs a 3D rendered virtual world, even with rendered AR overlays. I don’t expect to see Zwift using flat 2D footage any time soon, or ever.
Why does zwift still keeps this challenges if nothing new has been added in the last 10 years? There's a whole section for achievements, why not move there? This makes no sense....
they will write case studies on how zwift threw away its position as the industry leader due to them not focusing on their user needs. too many of these updates are simply nonsense. the steering update that shows a shield if you try to steer too far left or right, ridiculous. and yet, the racing scores is a level of incompetence it is hard to understand how it is possible, and they have done nothing to address cheating in races. whoosh if they play their cards right, will very quickly over take zwift. its a shame.
I don't get the pile-on here (and elsewhere). MyWhoosh is literally free, well, with the exception that they're now pushing in-game microtransactions, and Zwift has still seen year-on-year growth. Zwift is coming up on 10 years old now. MyWhoosh is coming up on 6 years old. It's not new. And we're not seeing any evidence that people are departing en masse from Zwift. If there's data to back this up, let's see it, that'd have to be part of the case study, right?

For texture changes, there's very little effort to do it, and is a different type of person (graphic/texture artist). TriDot hitched their wagon to the Z-Train workout sync feature last week. It'll be interesting to see what happens when TrainerRoad do the same. TR yearly sub is more than Zwift. Paying for both would be a stretch for a lot of people. Using TR simply for their training plans and not workout control does take a load off of TR support (in theory).... maybe they could offer a plan only subscription?
