I didn't have any luck with steel wool even after switching to the pure clear ammonia. Steel wool didn't scratch anything, it just couldn't get scrub off the glue. The copper pads worked though.
I recently bought a used car and had sticky residue on it so I tried scrubbing it with a sponge and used scraper using goo gone wd40 and cooking oil for a hour with hardly any results mostly just caused scratches in the adhesive This method started working instantly took a half hour-hour and looks crystal clear thank you Soo much straight to the point and super effective !!

Used to live in FL too and moved up north. My defrost lines might be damaged but they were already pulling/damaged when the tint was coming off. I appreciate the clear glass now 👍🏼
I was able to remove the 4 side window tints with a heat gun & razor blade. Can't use for rear window w/defroster. Was finally able to get tint off, but not the adhesive. I had tried heat gun, paint stripper, acetone, glass cleaner etc. nothing worked. I used ammonia & a green scotch brite pad. I had to reapply several times, but I got most of the adhesive off. Then used a steamer to break up the most stubborn parts. Finally through, what a job.

Ammonia was key! Nothing worked but ammonia. I will say on my truck using 0000 Brillo as well as copper pads scratched my windshield even with light pressure. Just used on small area. I then got one of those green rectangular pad used on Teflon pots and that worked with no scratches.
Sometimes the green pot scrubber isn't rough enough. I didn't observe any scratches, but using the copper pot scrubber can wear down the defrost lines if you scrub too long in one area. The bad part about ammonia, is the strong odor.
Not sure why it was scratching but got most of it off. It was front windshield. It’s against law in for tint on front Ga but ammonia really worked. Thanks for tip. I’d tried everything else that didn’t even touch it.

I even tried very carefully to use the temp. reg. as a starter to slowly pull it off, but the tape just broke. It was on there for over 3 months and I think the warmth from the sun just baked it on there.. I am afraid to use any kind of scraper cause of the tint. Any ideas before I call the tint company and have them do it? I just want to avoid driving back there if possible (kind of far)...
I'd like to get to this point but I'm unable to remove my tint. It's about 25 years old and spent most of those years out in the Arizona heat. I tried the garbage bag method. It didn't work - didn't even touch it. All the videos showing the garbage bag method seem to suggest 409 as an adhesive but that's not available where I currently am - Canada. electronicsNmore I will be doing the work in underground parking garage , will wearing a mask be enough ? Is ammonia fumes toxic ? Any side effects on eyes or nose ?
@@electronicsNmore Thanks buddy. And like what kind of ammonia should I get? Do they just sell pure ammonia or do I get like an alkaline cleaner like purple power?
This is very dangerous especially if you’re out in the heat breathing those fumes plus it’s WAY too labor intensive. A MUCH easier way (I know because I JUST did it)!) is to use a razor blade to get the majority of the adhesive off then use an old t-shirt or similar cloth doused in rubbing alcohol to remove the thin layer of remaining adhesive.
It is way easier just to line your inner windows with garbage bags and soap solution then put the car in the warm sun for 20mins then take off the garbage bag then peel one corner of the film then the rest will follow👍
So I need to worry if the acetone accidentally gets on anything besides the glass? I don't plan on splashing it around, but, thought I should ask before I begin my project.
Acetone? No good. Ammonia! Make sure all doors are open wide, and it's a very good idea to have a fan blowing the fumes away from you out the opposite door.

@@AlM-tz8yx any luck? Having same problem.
Used thinner . Wd40 .alcohol and bla bla but failed to remove ... great 👍 ty for sharing this
Be sure to look over my "Useful Tips" video playlist and share. Thanks!
I tried a steamer, I tried a razor blade, I tried the black trash bag trick.. nothing works ever I’ve been trying for months
Never use a razor blade on the defrost lines. I had the same problem as you, and the method in this video worked. Use a copper scrubber, and only scrub enough to remove all residue. Thanks for watching!
HELP. Had my REAR tint removed today, tint person said they can’t get the glue off, will have use razor blade , will damage defroster + can’t get 70% tint because of possible flaws after. LOOKS LIKE A CLEAR Tint left on window, dark tint came off but they said it’s glue. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??? Help .
Is the ammonia solution has to be hot/warm ? Or at room temperature?
Room temp, make sure you have PLENTY of ventilation. Best to blow the fumes away with a fan.
electronicsNmore I will be doing the work in underground parking garage , will wearing a mask be enough ? Is ammonia fumes toxic ? Any side effects on eyes or nose ?
@@moe20302030omg r u srill alive? Must be joking with the underground parking garage, i hope atleast
I recognized those palima roof tiles, must be Florida, I have the same I layed 15 years ago.
Yes, S.E. Florida. Thanks for watching!
Where can you buy those scrub pads?
Walmart or the dollar store.
@@electronicsNmore Thanks buddy. And like what kind of ammonia should I get? Do they just sell pure ammonia or do I get like an alkaline cleaner like purple power?
@@ryanjade2836 I used a cheap plastic bottle of ammonia from Walmart. Do in a VERY well ventilated area, leave windows and doors open.
@@electronicsNmore Okay great, thanks for the info. I have a 3M respirator with filters. Should I wear that, or is that overkill for this project?
Either use a fan to blow the fumes away, hold your breath as you scrub, or use a respirator that has activated charcoal.
Tried that it didn't work at all it's 35 years old 😢
CONGRATS!!!! you fucked up the defrost lines 😂
A few 100 lb bags of ammonium nitrate will work too
You're glue ways easy to remove probably by fingernail it seem like the glue on my window looks like it's painted on is it still going to work
Incorrect, no fingernail was going to remove that adhesive. Thanks for watching!
electronicsNmore I meant to say seems easy to remove with fingernail.... I was comparing it to mine. Mine looks burned on
It is way easier just to line your inner windows with garbage bags and soap solution then put the car in the warm sun for 20mins then take off the garbage bag then peel one corner of the film then the rest will follow👍
Tried that. :-) It failed.
It only get up to 25c for an hour, how would that eork
Bro t was just thinking of the stickers of car scarpio on doors and bownut
Don't use those copper pads or any metal 0% metal pads either! Good gone and microfiber and hours of scrubbing is the best!!!
I just used degreaser purple power
Whatever works! :-) Thanks for watching
This one looks like a film. The adhesive is sticky.
How about leftover tint/adhesive behind the third brake light? Am I screwed :(
