Extra tip: Heat it from the other side of the glass ;) You won't have to worry about burning yourself and you can heat a much larger area, allowing you to pull it faster. Plus, no risk to over-heating or accidentally hitting your door panels.
@@mobileautorepairs2169 You will be perfectly fine using any heat gun. I have a harbor freight one I use as well from time to time or while out on jobs. I would say keep the tip of the heat gun about 6 inches away and keep t moving in a small area. Operate it at high/max or move the tip a little closer and operate on low (about 3 inches away). You'll just want to get the glass pretty warm and as you start to pick the corner, you'll be able to SLOWLY pull the film back, while slowly progressing the area of the glass you are warming from the other side.
@@mobileautorepairs2169 With tint that has been on there that long, it may come off in pieces - be prepared for that. IF that is the case, it become a mess because you'll want to use something like Xenit (purchased at Home Depot or Amazon), spray the remaining tint/residue, and take a metal razor blade to the window. Just keep the blade angled greatly (like a razor does when shaving your skin). Again, just be advised that it can get messy removing super-faded/expired film.

Thank you for making such a straight-forward video. I'm going to look at a truck this week that has some DARK tint on it, and I was worried removing it would be pretty irritating to do on my own
Guys real quick. I’m a great window tint installer but haven’t peeled film in years. I tend to learn by dropping the ball. Don’t use a torch on laminated glass. Yup I bubbled the adhesive and now I owe my friend a new window. Hoping I can stop someone making the same mistake 😅
I used ammonia based glass cleaner to spray all the glass tint. cover it with a plastic film like a garbage bag. apply heatgun to heat up all of the glass from the outside, esp the corners. Once enough heat is applied and it is warm to touch, use a razor blade/putty knife to gently lift up a corner. post that, use that to peel gently around the edges, equally covering the middle from one corner to the opposite, with the intention/care of not tearing the film. Not a big deal if it tears but it makes it easier to pull it one sweeping motion.
For the guy that commented he used ammonia I didn't read the entire deal but this right here this video using the heat gun is actual factual it's true information and does work. You use harsh chemicals to try and do the job or unless you're wearing a respirator I would not advise it
Awesome video great information. I am trying to get the aftermarket window tint off of my passenger window I loved your video very informational and to the point easy peasy. I will be subscribing to your website momentarily.
Thank you for this, I'll be trying it tonight. I bought a Mercedes and the tint is too dark, therefore "illegal" in my state even with a tint waiver. I just got the car yesterday and I'm already over feeling like I'm going to get pulled over every second! That tint is coming off ASAP (and getting replaced with legal tint)
Maybe a dumb question but want to make sure I purchase the right equipment and do this right. Is there a specific heat gun to buy, and is there a specific level the heat gun needs to be on? I've heard if you aren't careful with the heat gun you can permanently plaster the tint to the window, is that true? Stoked to try this, great video man, quick and to the point!
I used the same gun I use to remove paint from woodwork or garage projects. Wore latex gloves and got it hot enough to soften the tint and it peels off easy. Didn't use hot water/soap for the residue, maybe should have. Used a razor and carb cleaner spray with making tape to protect the inner door panels.
@@captainamerica9353 thanks for the reply captain 🫡 I just did mine this weekend and it came off SO easy. When pulling the tint off are you pulling it with alot of pressure or does it peel off pretty easy ?
