Young father hopes for justice after he says ex-wife poisoned him, mom and sisters

  • CHUBBUCK - Lung infections, lesions and constant migraines. Loss of hair, skin and finger and toe nails. Jared Goody was told these symptoms were related to COVID-19.
But after months of suffering, Jared learned he was being poisoned and the person he says is responsible is his ex-wife - Courtney Goody.
“I was in complete denial,” Jared recalls, battling back tears. “I thought, ‘No, there’s no way she would do this to me.’ I had just gone through so much with her and seen what I thought was so much care and love for her husband and the father of her children. But I was so wrong.”
For the past three years, Jared says he and his family have been fighting with the legal system to get something done. Courtney has been criminally charged but the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office sealed the case and details remain hidden from the public.
Jared provided dozens of pages of sealed court documents, recordings and text messages to EastIdahoNews.com and sat down with us for an in-depth interview with his family. We made multiple attempts for comment or a statement from Courtney but her attorney, Curtis Smith, declined pending current legal proceedings.
This is what Jared says happened.

The intent is not hard to prove because Thallium is very rarely a poison that can be survived. She must've looked into what poison to use, and she didn't choose things that would make them merely 'sick' - she chose DEADLY poisons that bring about death 98% of the time! It is only by God's Grace and medical fluke that Jared is alive, and that's no exaggeration. That proves INTENT!

But what I do know is that DA could easily point out all of the cases in which the person being poisoned didn’t make it… like Chad Daybells deceased wife.. this guy is blessed and luck to have made it… a misdemeanor? You know how many people are gonna attempt to poison and kill people and use the excuse… I only wanted to make them sick not dead so that they can get away with murder because of how this case was handled? I would like to take this moment to thank all of those that supported our family the past three years and especially the last 30 days. Thank you is not enough for those that helped protest and showed up for the sentencing hearing. The past three years has been the trial of all trials for our family.
A huge shout out to Kalama Hines - Reporter Nate Eaton, and East Idaho News for sharing our story. Your integrity is of the upmost and your professionalism is unsurpassed. Thank you.
I am so proud of Jared Goody and his courage to stand up to the entire Murdoch clan especially at the hearing. If you would like to listen to his statement it starts at the 21 minute mark of the TH-cam audio. Coming from his own mouth I relive this entire nightmare. I love you buddy.
I feel need to apologize for my outburst during the hearing. It was not one of my better days. The many, many lies that the defense said about myself and my family was just too much to bare. I was frustrated with the state and the prosecutor as they did nothing as this man continually tore down the integrity of my family. There's no excuse for my actions but it needed to be stopped.
I commend Judge Thompson for his integrity and for placing the maximum sentence on Courtney that he could. Thank you.
Most of all, thank you to my family for sticking together. I love you guys more than ever. I can't think of anyone else that I would want to go into another alley brawl with.
Many of you have asked many questions. I'll try to list most of them and answer to the best I can.
    1. Why didn't they ask for attempted murder? They originally charged Courtney with felony assault. Herzog assured us that this was the correct charge since they couldn't prove intent.
    2. Why was the case dropped and recharged? The prosecutor failed to have their toxicologist come to the original hearing. The second charge was felony poisoning. This after me and Jared insisted that the state do their job.
    3. Why was the charges dropped from felony poisoning to misdemeanor battery? That's a good question. The prosecutor's office told us there was holes in the case. We asked them what the holes were and they could not answer. Here are some things we know and believe are true. Detective Bystrom was fired 5-6 weeks after Courtney's arrest. After that nothing was done on the case. We took in more evidence to the Chubbuck Police Department and Detective Sasser refused to take it. I called and emailed Chief Guiberson at least 50 times and not one time did he ever respond back (so much for the squeaky wheel). The Chubbuck Police Department had every opportunity to take additional hair tests and never did. No forensics were done on any of Courtney's electronics. The prosecutor never even looked at the confession video. To make matters worse, the Chubbuck Police refused discovery to us and would not give Jared the confession video until the day after the sentencing which is a direct violation of his rights as a victim. Bottom line, either Bannock County was bought off or this is the laziest police investigation and prosecution of all time. (There's a good possibility of the latter. Courtney's family has deep pockets and influence in the community.) If there were holes it was because someone didn't do their job.
    4. Is the prosecutor and state now going to charge for the remaining 5 victims? We have been waiting for over 2 years. It doesn't look like it. We can't even get them to follow up with the reports we've filed. Three weeks ago I talked to the Bannock County Sheriff and he was supposed to get back to me...I'm still waiting.
    5. Why didn't you call the FBI/Idaho State Police/Attorney General? Oh trust me, we did. Huge thank you to everyone who called and sent letters as well.
    6. What poisons did Courtney use? She used thallium and selenium. They were both found in Jared's samples and thallium was found in the other 5 victims.
    7. What's the long-term effects? Physically we don't know. Most people who are given thallium don't live to tell about it. Google it and find out. Mentally it's a crap shoot. Everyone has PTSD and we've all had to move because of the demons.
    8. Did I give Courtney priesthood and religious blessings to make her confess? Absolutely, 100% not! Anyone that knows me knows there's no way I would or could do this. If you don't believe me, I'll send you the transcript from the audio of the confession.
    9. How are the kids doing? They are doing awesome! They're in counseling and are working through their own issues.
    10. Has her family reached out? The Murdoch family has never reached out, not one single time to check on them. Not even for a birthday or Christmas. Last week Coop and I saw Dan Murdoch at Scotties. Dan wouldn't even acknowledge him. I guess protecting the ranch and your name is more important.
I know our family has been guided and watched over by God. We have seen His hand bless and help us through this trial. We loved Courtney as our own daughter. She truly was part of our family. Why she would do this is anyone's guess. One of my favorite scriptures says that even though we don't know the meaning of all things, nevertheless God still loves His children. Even though Courtney did this terrible evil to our family, she is still loved by God. We're trying to move on and I know with God's help we'll find closure.
    Thanks again...and God bless.

Just like in Canada, if a female commits the same crime as men they get a lesser sentence. If a man and woman abuse their children or others they give the man the harshest sentence but seem to think the woman only committed those horrible crimes under duress or abuse. They seem to think there is more evil in men than women. Just look at the Ken and Barbie killers in Ontario Canada. Paul Benardo and Karla Homolka ( has now changed her name). He got decades ( should of death) she got only a few years, an education behind bars, she got a new identity, protection and even a pardon so she could go and volunteer at her childrens school. She should have been sterilized, not allowed to have children. She got the girls for her husband as well as her own sister. She was an equal partner in the kidnapping, torture and murder of at least 3 teens as well covered for the rape of many more.

I hate to judge the prosecutors without all the knowledge, but if this is true, this is not justice. They could have charged her with attempted murder and let the chips fall where they may. Some prosecutors are just afraid to go to trial, but you never learn if you don't try your cases in court. Shame on these prosecutors for not stepping up to the plate. One day my siblings told me that they will take care that I will loose my health, my job, my career, friends and family. A few months later I started to have chronic diarrhea, feeling dizzy, I got asthma and 3 autoimmune diseases and I am disabled (and lost my job, career, friends and family). This happened in Switzerland and the authorities don’t believe me anything because my brother brainwashed them. They believe my brothers lies and do not want to do any investigation. In the mean time my brother got rid of our dad completely. They said my dad had passed away suddenly of natural death. It’s not the judge or the prosecutor’s fault. The police department failed to take it seriously and the family had to do their own detective work and that doesn’t hold up in court. Of course the officer that got assigned to the case ends up getting caught giving false statements and his work in the case is thrown out. The prosecutor had nothing to work with and the judge has to follow the code of law. The police department is 100% to blame however there are two sides to everything. The guy was going to divorce the wife and then gets back together with her and now they are looking for full custody of the children right. The company that produced these tests had a checkered past and there were no experts willing back the results.

The DA's office needs a good shakeup & they need to have a head DA who has some fire in his or her belly to go after these criminals with JUSTICE instead of plead deals!!! 18 months in jail for what this woman did to Jared Goody IS CRIMINAL, in my opinion. She should have gone to prison for a long time & never had access to her 3 children or any of the Goody family! May God keep them safe from her in the future.
