    When processing speed is standardised in simple experimental conditions, such as reaction and response time tests, it tends to mean something and correlates with IQ, but in naturalistic information processing situations, smart people handle more complexity, tending towards global systematisation and extrapolation, which lengthens processing speed and requires careful checks and consideration in order to handle the increased cognitive load; this can also apply to certain parts of IQ tests that are timed. This can also occur in what may appear to be standardised and simple processing tasks in the classroom or workplace, for example, resulting in what looks like slower processing speed compared to midwits.🤔 Reading a short excerpt may seem simple enough, but it can have a range of historical, philosophical, scientific, speculative, associational, linguistic and anomalistic implications, which can impede processing speed and allow midwits to finish first and feel superior about that, and unfortunately providing potential political ammunition. The trick is to be pragmatic and sensitive to the situational requirements, while remembering that speed and accuracy is sometimes required, but as a total value it is culturally load and has limitations and pitfalls that we need to be mindful of, and there are other cultures that value slower processing speed and contemplativeness. This is completely valid and provides results ... as long as the timetable isn't truncated😉

    Wonderful video, thank you Edvin! Valuable information for us to understand the neural diversity and evolve to an inclusive educational system and parenting! I think that standard teaching education is tailored to 20% of the classroom only.

    An excellent presentation, Edvin. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I for sure have a slow processing speed. Whether I am considered 'gifted' I don't know. It depends on what it means to be gifted. I am empathic...play piano a little...have composed some piano music... can paint fairly well... :-) Thanks again. Warmly, C.

      Thank you so much, and you're mighty welcome.
      Concerning giftedness, if you want to find out if you have the traits of giftedness, you can watch these videos I shot in 2017: th-cam.com/video/jZaNiHURhPw/w-d-xo.html

      Whether you're gifted or not, it's great you're empathic, play piano a little, have composed some piano music, and that you can paint fairly well. I love piano music.

      Being gifted is a comparison to the general populace. If you do something way better than the general populace then you are gifted in that area.
      Only 5% of the population can do a Rubik’s cube in under 2 minutes. I did that in 2nd grade. So I am considered gifted in manipulating 3 dimensional objects.

    Sometimes people with slow processing tend to remember details better , they catch things others glance over
    It gives them a degree of patience. Its good for someone who has a fast-processing speed if they work together.
    good video

    • @EdvinPalmer
      @EdvinPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I believe you're right about that because my attention to detail can sometimes slow down my processing speed.
      My personal experience is that I don't work well with people who are either faster or slower than me. So, I always prefer to work on my own.
      Thanks for liking the video, and have a great weekend.

    My tested IQ is 126 the test included 4 areas:
    Verbal Comprehension Perceptual Reasoning
    Working Memory
    Processing Speed
    Now every thing is above 95th percentile except processing speed which is below 25th percentile.
    My processing speed went down to 25th percentile so time around age 35 when mitochondrial dysfunction started affecting me. This means in my 20’s my IQ was probably around 139.

    I was thinking about your question regarding slow processing speed and giftedness. I’ve found that for myself, as a gifted adult with ADHD, my processing speed is lightening fast when I am hyper focused and the topic interests me. If it’s ‘boring’ or I am tired, my processing speed is Very slow and I need to regroup my thoughts, take a break and get back to it. There are times I process info quickly and have high accuracy. Other times I will process quickly and have high levels of errors. Once again, it comes down to my hyper focus, attention, as well as energy levels. Great videos, Edvin. You rock.

      @tshiamo7150 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With that said, regular exercise can aid in improving your focus because this release the endorphins in your brain, these can aid when attempting to do low-dopamine releasing tasks...you don't necessarily have slow processing speed.

    • @EdvinPalmer
      @EdvinPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, my goodness. That's intriguing because I'm exactly the same. If a topic intrigues me, my processing speed is lightening fast, but if it doesn't and I'm tired, my processing speed almost comes to a standstill. You're right, it does come down to our hyper focus, attention, as well as energy levels. Thanks again for watching, and have a great weekend.

    Do you have any physical neurological diagnoses to explain your slow processing speed or is your brain otherwise normal? I have no corpus callossum so I process information really really slowly. Add ADHD to disorganize my thoughts and it slows me further still. Until this video I didn't think slow processing could be a disorder in itself and not necessarily a result of a physically abnormal brain.
    Edit: Oh neat you're Canadian too!

    • @EdvinPalmer
      @EdvinPalmer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you do, such as different kinds of physical brain injuries.
      I'm very sorry you suffer from those things.
      Thanks for watching from Canada. On paper, I'm Swedish and Dutch, lol. Biologically, I'm American, Puerto Rican, and Colombian :-).
