So after being contacted directly by Earthroamer (super nice people by the way) we have been corrected on weight. This vehicle full of fuel weighs 18,000 lbs. I apologize, it was not my intent to mislead anyone for clicks, I just went with what the customer had told me. Thank you everyone.
Good point, it might leave Earthroamers fully equipped with extras with that kind of weight, but then people add more batteries, more solar, heavy utilities and a few more canisters and its probably closer to what the customer stated….
@@0kn0wwhat That's 5000lbs of party supplies! For the average good size truck camper, one usually ballparks a thousand lbs when fully packed, ready to go. I could maybe see a rig like that loading up 2000lbs and change, if he's got some big-ass fresh tanks, a motor bike and a hell of a big meat freezer and beer fridge. But 5k lbs seems a bit much. Regardless, heck of a rig. Perhaps toss in a couple hundred lbs of brown weight in his shorts hanging off the road like that! LOL!!!!!
Perhaps you guys should start handing out a fresh pair of undershorts on jobs like that!! Much more appropriate than a t-shirt..... In stead of "What size shirt do you wear?" You can ask, "Boxers or Briefs ????" 🤣🤣🤣
Does anyone else think the slow-mo mistake was a happy accident? This was an incredibly challenging recovery and having Rory do narration on top of the video was a really valuable bonus. I have learned so much from you guys. Thanks again for some of the best content on YT.
Just before the winch line broke I was thinking “if this was on network tv there would be dramatic music and kettle drums playing as they broke for commercial for ten minutes. Then when the show started again they would recap all that had happened since the last commercial. Then the narrator would try to build up the drama. “ so then the line snaps but we didn’t need any fake drama or commercials this was for real. I appreciate the way you showed this recovery. So much more enjoyable than fake drama of network tv.

I was in confined space rescue for 15 years, we always used rope protection, things like rollers or heavy duty pads to prevent chaffing of the ropes on sharp edges. Might be something to look into, to protect your winch lines from rubbing across large rocks. Even short lengths of old fire hose with the tow line running through it, secured to a sharp rock, would help protect the winch line. Just cut a slit in the length, 2'-3' of hose to run the line through it. You could probably get some old fire hose from your local fire dept, and it wouldn't add any weight to Trail Mater. Am not criticizing, just giving a suggestion. Would hate to see a recovery go horribly wrong just because of a winch line failure.
6:13 you would not believe how many people dont understand snatch blocks. Snatch blocks to give a DOUBLE weight reduction in line pull MUST move with the load. Thank you so much, Mater for showing that reality for everyone.

Before I got into off-roading I used to think these Earthroamers were the coolest thing. Now I know that beast has to cause constant stress and is very limiting. @@Doubie. The weight of this thing literally destroyed that shelf road. That's hardly rock crawling or tight trails. This thing will be stress inducing on anything more difficult than a slightly rough dirt road.
Even with a failure your redundancy caught it all. The big of a vehicle in that position pulled up that easy. We can almost always look back and say I could have done that better. I see this as a reminder to all of us. Use a strap to get out in the clear and keep the working parts free and completely insight if it’s possible of course. Nicely done Trail Mater crew!
Three guys with balls and about $30, 000.00 worth of cobbled together equipment between the two wreckers save a $ 800, 000.00 luxury earth roamer. This is what makes this country great! ingenuity and basic engineering. Great Content!!!
I bet they wish those trucks only cost $30k to build lol, I would guess at least 3x that but still far less than an Earth Roamer.
I think your the best tow truck operator in the state. Your always calm, you speak clearly & your always very cautious. You don’t get ahead of yourself & your extremly well equipped !!!!!!!
There’s others but they won’t take on the challenges that you do.
What a remarkable recovery. That was so near a disaster. You've a great mind!
I doubt you will see this Rory, but thanks for letting me/us know about the dangers of using a kinetic rope with a winch line. I feel like that bit of advice may have saved a life or two.
Thanks for the instruction, and talking us through what you were doing. Some place some or time that will come in handy for one of us.
Great editing Justin! I’m glad that we got to enjoy such a unique recovery!
@Toasty my cousin. He’s been in a few of the videos but he works remotely and edits.
Great recovery. Key here was planning, double protection, TEAM WORK. Good job.
That was impressive! The narration really explained the thought process for making the recovery a success! You guys did a great job and the customer should be real happy!
Amazing sharp video, you are going from strength to strength. A very impressive rescue, well done.
Well done guys!!!
Wow, that was incredible, nicely done Rory and Team. Thank you Mike for such amazing video footage of the scenery going in there. Justin well done for saving that video. Thanks Rory for the explanation of everything. Sean, you rock!
Wow, amazing job. from FAQ's at Earthroamer....The base price for our 2023 LTi is $730,000. Most EarthRoamer LTi’s go out the door in the high $700k to low $800k range.
Gave me goosebumps. Great job. You can have all the best equipment in the world but it has to be used right. Glad you guys are on the job.
As an offshore rigger and deck foreman by profession, I appreciate your awareness of and taking the time to inspect your gear for its capacities. It's part and parcel for your job just like it is mine but actually showing it gave a great technical depth to this video. Love your channel.
I keep watching episodes and saving them to watch later with other people I want to impress with the beauty of the terrain and the insanity of the recoveries being done - my list of must-watch clips is getting unwieldy! This one was just NUTS...
Wow, what a recovery! Wow, what scenery! Wow, what a video!! Wow, what a group of guys!
Hats off to Rory and his crew. That was superb.
love how honest, self-aware, and open y'all are. Great job recovering that earthroamer!
Fantastic job!
Without a doubt, the best crew in Moab!
more than just Best in Moab
In my opinion,,, by far the best recovery of yet...!!!!! Great job guys....!!!!
Man, AWESOME JOB GUYS!!! I don’t know how that truck stayed on the hillside! Really liked the voiceover, I know you did it for other reasons but I think it added a lot to the video and understanding just how tough and dangerous it really was!!! That’s Why you guys do the jobs everyone else turned down!!!
Hands down this was the best “not a how to but how we do” with what we have gear and combined experience recovery video!!!!!!!!! Great job Fellas
Great recovery and good use of the equipment used. Showing the line breaking and the straps just basically falling was great. Great videoing all around.
This was a brilliant recovery. Nothing rushed, you oversaw the situation, made a plan and it worked out.
Great to see the customer being so relieved that he hugged Rory.
Well done guys!
Sure is beautiful countryside!! Glad you gave that fella confidence. That hug says it all 👏
So Wise , Thank you . Another fine recovery , showing the importance of Knowing what works and does not .
