Even with the mastery recovery of a vehicle that should not have been down that trail, this video is a prime example of how wheeling can be successfully determined by mere inches of wheel placement and vehicle speed. When the disabled truck started sliding off of the trail experience, said stop to halt the slide. With some minor adjustments and very controlled vehicle movements, a very highly dangerous situation was averted, and the successful recovery could continue.
@@mahbriggs While that sounds easy, the instruction "to do what ever it takes" and the pre existing condition of the truck, I think pulling it out in one piece with some additional scratches and dents on the side was the right call. I like the way you guys are able to collaborate with local jurisdictions to perform these rescues and recovers. It relieves the jurisdictions of the liability of having to do so and probably speeds up the process.
I get the feeling there was a fair bit of begging from the local jurisdiction on this one. Aside from cutting it into tiny pieces first, they weren't going to get that out without Rory's help.
They would have used a helicopter. A really big expensive one. I think their other option would be to hire Rory's crew to disassemble the truck, so the pieces could come out on a smaller helicopter or by a narrow buggy. Strip it to the frame, and that would be narrow enough. They would still need a narrow trailer to carry the frame and axles.
@@arteepee Yeah, I was thinking a normal size helicopter for bringing out parts after disassembly, But the truck got in there, so it could come out.
