- Here is my review on the Scag 30 after 2 1/2 seasons with it and 116HRS of use. Honest, in depth review of Scag’s Commercial 30 in Mower. This mower was released in 2021 and is facing some obstacles currently. Here are my thoughts and opinions after being the only operator to use this machine in its 116HRS of life so far. I share tips, issues and great features!
This would be a great video to watch if you are looking into Scag’s 30in Commercial mower or if you are in search of your first commercial push mower
Thanks for watching!!

You’re a rare bread my friend, thanks for a truly honest review and know you saved me a couple grand…👊
Awesome! So glad to hear! Thank you! 🫡🫡
Which one did you buy?
Thanks for your insight love my 32" and 36" Scag will stay away from Scags 30" keep up the good work you do
Thank you! I appreciate it! I think the world of all other Scag models! Would really like to get 32 or 36 v ride 2
Love the flags! I bought one of these last October. Hoping for the best 🤞. Hate to see so many issues at 116 hours. Best of luck in your business!
Thank you Travis! I really appreciate it! Best of luck to you as well!
Just picked up the 2024 SFC 30. Great Mower. Replaced a Turfmaster 30.
Nice! I didn’t think they were releasing anything past 2023. It says 2024 model on your unit? Or you purchased 2023 model in 2024?
@@Southernreliablelawncare it’s a brand new 2024. Ordered it from a Large Scag Gold Dealership in South Mississippi
@@user-yw8hs8sv9p nice! Wish you the best with it!
@@Southernreliablelawncare I used it yesterday it’s an excellent lawn mower. Thanks
@@user-yw8hs8sv9p mine was great until about the 72 hour mark
I had an older belt drive 32" Bobcat w a Kawasaki that was destroyed by a moron in traffic. It was great, but i was shocked how lame the 30 to 32" sector of the market was when i went to replace it. All of it looked like garbage at highway robbery prices to me. And all that $ for something so weak it cant pull me on a sulky like my Bobcat did? Unacceptable. Decided to just get a 21" hrx Honda and take fences down for access for the rest of it. It was a good choice
Oh man!!! Wild story! And yeah I agree, not happy with 30-32in market currently. Cheap pieces of machinery that won’t last long. Cant go wrong with 21inch Honda!
This helps a lot. Thanks
Awesome! Thank you
Nice, I got a 2022 Ferris 32 & love it.
Very cool! I looked around Ferris as well before getting this Scag, guess I was too excited to try it out
A new FW15 is over 4k now. That put the residential application a bit high for me .
Yikes, that’s a lot of diy repairs just to keep that thing moving. I tried a turfmaster with the smaller kawi engine, good mower but it was underpowered so I went fw15 and never looked back it’s awesome. The blade belt needs to be upgraded but no issues otherwise.
I agree, it is embarrassing. And I do agree that my Turfmaster with Kawasaki is under powered, but still a really great mower
good information.
Thanks so much for the feedback! Really appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
How does it handle the gator blades?
😂 The way you feel about this, is the way I feel about the Exmark 30 AND 60 🤯🤯🤯 I'd rather try the Scag fc.
That is why I went with toro Turfmaster HDX, best of all worlds! Haha
@@Southernreliablelawncare 😅 Hope it works out for you, brother. Looking forward to a video on it.
Great review and thank you for taking the time to make it! Sorry it gave you so much trouble and appreciate you sharing with others! Is there a walk behind you would better recommend in place of this model? I'm shopping for a long-term mower for personal use on a 1/2 acre lot.
Hey thank you! I appreciate it! I have since purchased a 30in Toro Turfmaster HDX, which is Toros commercial/identical option to this Scag SFC30. I have videos and shorts up on my page about it. I still use the Scag on my own yard and back up for the yards I service. However, if I am on half acre or more I use the 54in Zero Turn. So hard to say for that much turf. If you are wanting the exercise, then by all means 30inch commercial mower would do. If not, you may want to look into residential zero turns or tractor mowers.
Yeah !/2 acre also. Did you buy anything? This video stopped me from buying the Skag . Still looking .Thanks, Rich
@@rickrozmin4593 I ended up getting a Honda Hrn 216 and think it was the right move. Very nice push mower and it’s simplicity and speed make up for any “gain” I might have thought to have gotten from a 30” deck.
@@weaverkirkpatrick356 Thank you
What did you buy to replace this with? Great Video. I'm considering the Skag for my 1/2 home. You stopped me for now. Next level is a $1000. bucks more.
I have a video on my page on what I replaced the Scag with, should check it out! Lol
Not interested in a timemaster?
I have one and it weighs too much. Overbuilt mower IMO. I am at 46 hours with no issues thus far. the mulching plug is a pain in the butt.
I agree 100%! I use this for my own yard and a back up now. For business I use toro Turfmaster and it’s easily 40lbs lighter. Night and day difference. More videos to come on both, just needing grass to grow
I will say this unit was a dream until about 75 hour mark! Didn’t think I would ever have any issues. It is still going though
Yes the 30 inch twin blade machines always seem to have problems.
The SCAG, Toro timemasters, the DR power 30...mainly the belts keep braking.
Same here, it's heavy. But, haven't had anything issues for over a yr. Knock on wood 🪵
Thanks mister, honest review. Any thoughts on scag 21,I'm thinking my next purchase, thanks much, best luck
Its heavy, but i love it. I have the newer version.
Nice! Mine treated me well for the first year. Wish you the best of luck with it! It was way too heavy to enjoy for me, add the break downs and I was done
What year is the updated model?
@@cneagle87 I believe 22 and 23
@@Southernreliablelawncare what is different in the updated model? Thanks for the reply
@@cneagle87 2023
Good video. It looks like SCAG tried to cram too much into a mower that lacks power steering. I'm looking for something that can go where a zero turn cant and Ill be choosing something lighter - probably a Turfmaster.
Thank you Trent! I really appreciate it! And I love my Turfmaster! Super light and really clean cut! Great product so far!
I can pick up a 2023 model with the caster wheels and 16 hours for $1700.00
I see this model on the website new for 3k today. Is $1700.00 a steal or will i still squeal?
I would STAY CLEAR!! It’s a deal because they want to get rid of it and never see it again. Don’t buy a Scag SFC 30
@@Southernreliablelawncare Thanks for the advice. what are your thoughts on a scag 36 advantage for 750.00, friend?
I was torn between the scag and a lightly used 48 hour husqvarna Z248f zero turn for small commercial use. I'm leaning husky now but the brute force of that scag is impressive in 3 ft grass.
Got two constantly breaking down
SCAG 30 is for real men 😂 love mine replaced the clutch $900 later 276 hours
Awesome, glad you like it!
You bought it second hand? 276 should be under warranty.
Oh, nevermind, I see this and the liberty z are only 1 year commercial 🤔
@@lebowski137 that’s the dealership price, parts + labor I think it was like $876 in total close to $900, I went back a few days ago for blades and the guy told me that they did a clutch replacement on a 30” Scag and that the clutch had blown up again 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power I wish warranty covered it 🤣
That mower cuts great but the weight sucks the life out of you even with the swivel wheels 220 lbs lug that around all day 😅
The tyres on the Turfmaster are better mine are 4 years old no wear at all
Cables too thin gone with grass flap cable (blade engage)
We bought one of these. Worst purchase we've ever made.
Amen Adam! Not making that mistake again! lol love my Toro!
Bought mine used. Wishing I got a 36" The used prices are similar, and its so awkward. Turning is a nightmare. If I was a jerk, I'd push this thing off on someone else like the last guy did to me. Love my Scag 48". Had it 10 years, flawless...perfect. The 30" just ain't it. DONT BUY ONE!!!
Amen! And sorry you did not see this video until after you purchased it. I don’t even know what to do with mine! Just collects dust!
Genuinely one of the worst mowers I've ever used/own, but I preface that being a homeowner, not a business. Why do I say that it's so bad though?
- This thing weighs 220+ pounds
- The rear wheel design is far to small but the off-setting deck prohibits bigger diameter wheels(right side more-so).
- Constantly stuck in dips and humps/steep grades. front casters are rendered half useless since their off the ground too often with the mower being back heavy.
- Transmission drive and engine can't handle the weight of the unit/twin blades.
- Off-set blades doesn't work like they claim. Grass get stuck a lot and plugs if grass is even slightly damp, even with side discharge on. Engine bogs down too much because it's cutting faster than it can bag, mulch, or discharge, IMO.
- Drive system control is very underwhelming. Needs the same system the SFC 21 has with a control lever.
- Pre-2023 models have a recall due to a horrible clutch and drive system, hence why he said "much improved." Not sure how much improved because I too have a 2021 junker that again tore a belt up today.
- Rattles too much to a point of sheer annoyance.
- Mulch plug sucks, as others mention.
- Bagging connection is a pain.
That's most of it...I think 😅 Honestly if they redesign this thing it could be great but due to electrifying politics, most companies won't supply engines for it. So we get Kohler, who will. Scag also seems to have an issue with real-world testing and making improvements quicker. Been around since 1983..should be really streamlined by now.
Otherwise, until Scag makes ANY effort to listen to customers concerns, then this stuff isn't changing. And if not, they may want to scrap this SFC 30 and stick with the MUCH superior SFC 21 model I personally own for my yard.
I agree 100%, thank you!
I used to get stuck in dips with mine. You just have to tighten the cable that is connected to the bottom bar that controls the drive. Other people have done the same thing
I will never buy any SCAB MOWERS. 😮😮
