I bought the 21 inch scag to bave a little more advantage on hills here in north carolina we have a lot and the 224 cc on a 21 is awesome never boggs i love it
Dealer told me to do the first oil change at 10 hours. I do like this beast though. I have a terrible hill in my yard, so I understand fighting that. But I have a .5 acre yard, so I'm glad to have this 30" mower.
I’m getting prepped to do the 8hr service on mine tomorrow, and have similar feelings . It’s a beast with some quirks, but no regrets. Thanks for posting.
I had my grandpa get the mower since I take care of his yard work. He gad two mowers and we both wanted to have just one to lower maintenance costs some. He has about 1/2 acre for sure. If I could do it again, I may pass on this mower. I love the made in USA stuff and fell for the quality. But now I'm just hoping I don't have the issues others have. My dealer is 30 miles away and Scag seems hit and miss on support. This mower needs some Improvements, mostly weight and a drive system overhaul similar to what the SFC 21 has, which I own. Also larger diameter rear wheels may help it from getting stuck as much which is common for me.
@@daryldaryl887 Honestly, the SFC 21 mower has been far better and easier to manage. If you ever get one(assuming you haven't purchased a scag) be sure to check the manufacturer date. I didn't and was sold a 2021 SFC 30 when I bought last year. Scag made a few upgrades in 2022 but probably not enough to make the mower much better. I reached out to the dealer and company but they basically said tough luck, so that sucked. But if you wanted a SFC 21, my advice is wait a few months to see if they upgrade that unit anymore. According to the dealer and scag themselves, they release new models in late spring, early summer. Just check the website and call a local dealer of Scag. Given Scag just released the SFC 21 last year, it might have and improved feature or two. Overall, I like the 21 really well and don't see much to worry about, in terms of changing it.
@@Elvisthebullyking To a point, sure, but it's more than that. You're not getting a product that matches it's price. Had a belt issue just recently that cost unexpected money.
Great video. I agree on your handlebar comment. Would be nice to have a wider bar. Just bought one a few weeks ago. After only 5.5 hours - the cable that engages the blade drive shear and snapped! VERY ODD! Overall - I like this machine
Same here I have gone thru 2 replacements I wonder what is causing it to shear mines has 16hrs already the first one snapped at 13 hrs and then at 16hrs
Only issue I have with my skag is it plugs up super easy with wet grass. Wish the shoot was bigger. Did those blades come with it? Or can I get some with more lift?
I bought the high lift bagging blades when I bought the mower. They work well. I live in the Seattle area and mow wet grass often. I do have to watch it and mow a little slower when it’s wet, the blades do good
Sorry for the delay in responding. I do still like. Although I’ll say the flatter the area the better. The mower does struggle on uneven surfaces. I can only get down about 2 & 1/4 inch cut.
Nice! 👍 I have a 2022 fixed wheel SFC-30 I also use for a 1/2 acre home. I love it so far. Let me ask you have you ever had to adjust the PTO clutch or had any problem with it not engaging or being stuck? I’ve heard about the update that Scag retrofitted for the PTO clutch on this model. Mine is like yours as far as the pto clutch . I have 35 hours on mine, and I noticed today that the PTO engagement for the blades got really loose. I popped the cover and it looked like the pulley was just bouncing around a little bit. Anyhow, good video.
I just mowed yesterday and notice that I now have 35 hours as well. I have not noticed any issues with my PTO. However it’s problem time for me take the cover off and have a look. Thanks for the message.
Changing the blades is pretty easy. I lift the lawnmower to the highest cut setting, which makes the lawnmower pretty high. And then I just tip it back on to the push handle and it stays up. I was able to use a battery impact wrench to remove and install the blades. One thing I particularly like about this mower is that the blades are not synced, so you don’t have to worry about the position of the blades when you put them back on.
@@jvera1620 still using 30 inch toro time masters. We have 2 of them. They are great but we wanted to upgrade to commercial, but Honestly they run great and the cut is amazing. Been using them for 3 years.
I saw that to so I instead got the Scag sfc 21 push mower with the same 7hp motor it has great reviews and I love it great for my buisness I recommend it I also saw the bad reviews on this ons
Any problems with transmission noise? Mine has been clunking even without the engine being on. Not sure if its low fluid from the dealer or what. Only have about 10 hours on it.
I used the kohler pro extended life 10w 50 in the manual the engine said it's the best to buy for it I wouldn't follow the 300 hour service on it though
You are correct the Kohler manual does not specify how much oil it takes. It does say to fill the oil to the top of the oil dipstick indicator. I started with half a quart and checked it and then I just kept adding until I was comfortable where it was full.
Kohler pro extended life oil 10w 50 is what the manual said is the best for all conditions I change the oil same time as the others though I have the 21 inch Scag but the same exact motor 224 cc kohler
@@TheLawnFellasthanks for the advise. When I fertilize I wait about a weeks to cut to ensure the fertilizer gets embedded. Then I typically cut twice a week, about every 3 days.

Packing big productivity and versatility into a compact form, this commercial-grade machine delivers a beautiful, professional quality-of-cut, helping you put the finishing touches on the job or at home." @@quadb3212 I have had one for about two years. Overall, its just too heavy. I get they want to make it last but I bet the composite deck on my Honda will last just as long. Becasue the Skag is so heavy, it works you out especially in tight quarters. I have the swivel wheels up front, I never disengage because then the mower won't track as well. The Skag cuts nice, can power through wet stuff if it has to , but it could have been made much better. Lighter deck, a variable speed lever like the Honda, and an adjustable chute would be nice.
