If you want a Barbie movie with surprisingly dark implications and the most horrifying soul-devouring elephant you’ve ever seen, I highly recommend my personal favorite movie: Barbie as the Island Princess
Fun fact: The reason why Preminger and the royal maid guy or whatever look alike is that they are all actors. You can even see bloopers of them in their normal selves in Barbie Princess and the Pauper.

Ashlyn, Blair, Courtney, Delia, Edeline, Fallon, Genevieve, Hadley, Isla, Janessa, Kathleen, and Lacey. That would have been some serious dedication to a bit on the part of their parents
I also love the implication that queen just gave birth to 12 children so she could give the 12 books that match the 12 flowers on the floor so they could reach the magical pavilion in the story
The aunt’s curse to dance forever is one of the most horrifying things in the Barbies. Kid me couldn’T get the idea of these two dancing until they died out of my head. And what if their corpses were forced to dance forever?
I actually think the fan at the end is clever writing, cause she uses the thing against Rowena, that Rowena used to oppress her earlier - the thing, the princesses were laughed at, because they couldn't do it. The whole movie celebrates individuality. Rowena tried to take individuality away from them, making them all look and do the same, but in the end, they use their unique skills to fight back.
There is actually also a logic behind this (if we call it logic...) , that, this is actually "magic dust" of some kind that comes out of the flowers, thus, when fanned, they fly to the opposite direction as dust particles
I bet after each pregnancy she went to the magick dance world and drank some of the healing water to repair her torn perineum. 😂 I imagine that's the only way she'd have been able to go through with so many births.
I think they were good looking for the time. But since 3D animation has gotten way better since then, the animations looks really outdated as a result.
As a ballet dancer, the animation for the dancing is surprisingly good. I was expecting to see just a ton of really rigid lines and random movements, but it actually captured the fluditiy of dance and the moves were pretty accurate. (Although I will say, dancers never count past eight and her counting to twelve felt weird lol.) And I'd never seen the barbie movies before because my mom never let me have anything to do with barbie as a kid but seeing all these people get so nostalgic in the comments makes me feel like I missed a key part of my childhood.
The idea of sharing a room with all your siblings of varying ages, and one of which collects bugs is nightmare fuel. The making of this movie is interesting, though, how they captured the ballerinas dancing
Fun Fact: There was actually a Playstation 2 game based off this movie. As Genevieve, you have to find her 11 sisters in the magic realm. You play a bunch of mini games and have to match the gemstones to the right princess. After you find each Princess, you get to choreograph a dance for each, but not a pretty ballet dance. It was more like a bad TikTok dance.

I'm surprised that most of the comments are ignoring the most non-Barbie Barbie movie ever: Barbie Diaries. Every character, the animation, the plot, the lack of logic... It's the masterpiece we're sleeping on you guys.
I will never forget when some guy sent her on an errand and she sighs and goes "I hate my life" 💀 I remember saying that a lot and my mom would scold me for saying it 💀 💀 such a masterpiece of a show
Guys, we need to start signing a petition for Alex to watch Barbie as the island princess, absolute masterpiece and such endearing songs. But I kinda want to hear Alex's goofy laugh over Tikka's darkest plan lmao.
Barbie in the Nutcracker, Barbie of Swan Lake, and Barbie as the princess and the pauper are three of my favorite Barbie movies ever. They still hold a place in my heart, even though the CGI hasn’t aged well.
YES! I need him to do the Island one and Swan Lake. I remember my mom needing to hide this movie, Swan Lake, and the Island Princess one where I couldn't find them because I kept watching them on repeat. Same for the soundtrack CDs too, cause I wouldn't stop listening to those for the longest time and it was driving my mom mad while she would hear it from me in the truck, in my room, in the living room, and anywhere else I could listen to it. LOL
I love how no one ever questions that the 12 princesses look vastly different from eachother (there are blondes, brunettes, some with black and ginger hair, every eye colour from green, to brown and blue) while the father is blond and blue-eyed and the mother had ginger-brownish hair and blue eyes.... someone has some explaining to do 👀
My theory the mother has a falled gene and do to that that's why most of the girls are not red heads and since even though its still possible to have red head kids the other genes like the brunette and blond which most of people have become the dominant ones aka having a bigger chance to be a blond and a brunette
Maybe they come from the only royal families with a diverse gene pool. My mom is white with freckles, with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, my dad is black, with brown eyes and brown hair, my older brother is very pale with very dark eyes and hair, I am blonde with green eyes and my younger sister in olive skinned with brown eyes and hair. If we count hair textures it gets even more messy lol
As a 20+ year old mam, my favorite Barbie movie growing up was always "Barbie and the Nutcracker." And the animation has most definitely not aged poorly at all and holds up to the standards of my sugar-addicted child brain.
Agreed, definitely one of the better Barbie movies and I think the 1st. I loved how the Nutcracker gets to hear how terrible of a prince he was, and how smart Barbie was in that movie. Tim Curry as the Mouse King was amazing!
Fun fact, this Barbie movie is actually an adaptation of the story “The Shoes That Were Danced to Pieces” by the Brothers Grimm. It was more dark in that the king asks that a man discover where his daughters are going to dance at night, and if the man succeeds, he would be the next king and marry the daughter of his choice, but if the man tries and fails, he would be executed 😅
I came looking for this comment, especially when Alex said the movie was so dark, I was like "he definitely doesn't know about the original story". I even read once that the princesses ended up killing the dude that went after them, but now that I looked it up it wasn't like that... although they were willing to do so by drugging him and getting him executed for not descovering the secret, so yeah, to me it counts as being killers haha way darker than this movie for sure
Well, They did for a while make movies based on stories, fairytales, ballets, but for some reason or the other, they strayed from that theme more and more. Nutcracker Rapunzel Swan Lake 12 Dancing Princesses Thumbelina (which really doesn't have anything common with the real story except for the name) Christmas Story Three Musketeers I thiiiink the Islamd Princess is also based on a story, but I'm not sure, I just always thought it seemed familiar, especially with poisionous stuff. Then they started making the Fairytopia and Mermaidia movies and I think, they continued with other mermaid movies because they noticed that it was selling better to their target audience perhaps, also with eliminating Princesses from their movies, they didn't need to compete with the Disney Princesses. (they even tried with more modern-like princesses but I think that didn't go tooo well)
true... and I've found that a LOT of fairy tales esp Grimm ones have versions that are much more....well, Grimm! my fav example is Hansel and Gretel which if you think about it, just in regular versions has child imprisonment, child enslavement and cannibalism
Is that the version where, at the end, it is found that they are dancing with devils, and locked up, other than the one the man chooses or am I just familiar with a way darker version?
@@sophiehelena6737 I never watched Mariposa, after my time, but I loved watching the commercial for it on one of my DVDs Was there no bibble eqivalent/sidekick?
Hey Alex, as a self proclaimed Barbie finatic who has watched all the movies hundreds of times (lol they’re my therapy), I highly recommend the Barbie diaries because you will be laughing the ENTIRE time and also Barbie mermaidia (fairytopia sequel) because it’s also genuinely really funny. They both have iconic lines like “who cares if she’s exciting, fresh, and fun?” “Please she sounds like a deodorant”, “lefting, leftaROOOOOO” and of course opera Bibble which is iconic.
13:26 the reason why they all love dancing is because their mom loved dancing, and it connects all of them to each other and to their passed mom! they are each unique in that delia and edeline like sports, courtney likes reading, blair likes horses, etc. but dancing is the one thing that brings them together :)
Honestly seeing Alex react to Barbie and the Princess Charm school would be pretty epic. That was always my favorite when I was growing up, and just the absolute bonkers mess they get themselves into is kinda crazy.
There's actually a in-universe reason as to why they reuse the character modles in the barbie movies. They are actualy movies that barbie (an actual actress) plays, and when a character has the same modle as other characters in other movies it's because the actor is the same, we see it in Barbie: fashion fairytale and a few other movies It's honestly unhinged and fits perfectly in the context of the barbie movies
so, y’know barbie does every single job bc she’s a girlboss, so her actress job has us as the audience? so her movie powers are interdimensional bc we’re not in the barbie universe. or maybe we are, idk!
In the very first Barbie movies there was actually a framing device of Barbie narrating the story to Kelly whenever Kelly was feeling down about something, so I always assumed that the reason why the same characters appeared in different roles was Barbie was filling them with people they knew, hence Barbie always being the heroine, Ken the dashing romantic interest and Kelly taking whatever kid role there was. For whatever reason, after Swan Lake they dropped the whole Barbie and Kelly bookending the movie.
You should do Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus next. It's arguably one of the best and well-realized movies out of the bunch, especially when it comes to the story (at least from the ones I've seen which were all of them until 2014 or something).
I love how Alex Meyers always includes the "I love horses!" joke in almost every video. At 4:20 . The teacher asks Samantha "What do you wanna be?" and Samantha says "I love horses!"
For some reason, "Barbie Rapunzel" always hangs out in the back of my mind. I think you should do that one next. If not, id say the very big classic of Barbie in the Nutcracker. I hope everyone has a great Day/Night!
I would definitely love to see Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. I appreciate the sass being thrown between Annika and the love interest (who actually has a personality this time). They're a chaotic mess.
From what I've heard, apparently, there are two types of Barbie movies: one where Barbie ACTS as a character like in Barbie and the magic of the pegasus and another one where the movie happen's in "the real world" like in Barbie, a fairy secret
Yeah Barbie is Barbie in like the fashion in paris and there they even point out that she's an actor and some of the movie posters hang in the backgound.
As a hardcore Barbie fan, the title actually says a lot. Is it says '" Barbie in-" or "Barbie as-" that means she is acting. But if it's a simple title like "Barbie: fairy secret" or "Barbie diaries." The only exception being Mariposa, which appears to be in a completely different alternate reality of Fairytopia. So like Mariposa is either a fanfic within the Fairytopia universe or a canon event in Fairytopia. Barbie Dreamhoise Adventure (Not life in a dreamhouse) is set before she became an actress likely since it's meant to be a prequel, likely during the timeline of Barbie Diaries.
@@alias_undercoverI believe mariposa exists within the fairytopia universe. The second mariposa movie is either a separate universe or barbie playing as mariposa due to the world building and lore making no sense.
Please tell me you've watched the spy one. Like they could have just cut the rope in like the first part of the movie!😭 but just to infuriate me further, they JUST KEPT GOING 😭😭 and the "lover boy" constantly saying "no, I mean all of you" I almost k**led myself 😭😭😭😭
To be honest, Barbie has introduced me to classical music a lot. The "ballet"-style movies caused me to recognize a lot of classical pieces and now I'm playing the oboe in an advanced orchestra. The Barbie butterfly effect is real 😳
Barbie movies, and baby Einstein introduced me to a lot of classics and I ended up first chair violin in night school, totally got my appreciation for classical music young
I wanted to become a figure ice skater because of Magic of Pegasus!😂 too bad my hometown doesn't have an ice skating ring but if it did I would definitely go
If you want the ✨’steamiest’✨ Barbie movie romance I’d suggest Barbie: Magic of Pegasus, it probably has the darkest undertones with child trafficking being at the heart of the narrative. It was also the first Barbie movie to have a 3D option with the dvd (with those paper red and blue glasses)
Lmao I can't stop laughing at how easy it was to stop their Aunt. So powerful. I need to start carrying a fan around with me and when people annoy me I am just going to fan them until they go away lmao
Barbie as the Island Princess is just Barbie perfection, which is why it should be the next reaction. The animals are so derpy and creepy that it is hilarious.
its very important to me that you know that there are actually TWO types of barbie movies that exist in the BCU. one is where barbie is just barbie, and her name is barbie and its either about her, or she’s telling a story where she’s being imagined as the main character. the other is like this movie and princess and the pauper, where the movie is actually a movie IN a movie and barbie is the actress playing the main character (genevive, annalise) you can even watch the “bloopers” in the end credits so basically barbie is super fucking meta
Actually, they changed the lore again. Now she's in highschool/college (and an influencer, which doesn't play much of a role though), and most movies play in Barbie's "real world".
@@sailorcat you mean the TH-camr timeline? It makes sense that it's canon but happens earlier. I assumed she was in her mid-late 20s in movies like Fashion Fairytale.
If you're wanting another musical barbie and the diamond castle is a good choice, but if you're looking for just a pretty cool movie barbie and the magic of Pegasus is also pretty cool (in my humble opinion 😌) Edit: I'm glad everyone loved that movie too 🤧
I think Magic of Pegasus is one of the most aesthetically pleasing Barbie movies. I absolutely love the sunset scene when the girls are trying to slow it down
I always loved how a Barbie movie wrote such a painful fate for the power-tripping woman and that guy. Unstoppably dancing until literal death must have been so exhausting and tortuous. Definitely one of my favourite Barbie movies. Swan Lake would be good for a future video. The villain guy and his daughter with the weird voice are truly... something.
Fun fact, the voice of the daughter is Maggie Wheeler who also plays Janice on friends! But yes swan lake is one of my favourites and he definitely should do it.
This was always my favourite movie growing up. It was so special to me. I absolutely loved how every girl was different yet they all came together to dance. I know it probably seems silly but my sisters, friends, and I were all so different yet there was always one thing that bonded us together. Also, I can’t believe you didn’t talk about the greatest transition in cinematic history, when the box that the triplets keeps the bugs in transitions into the top of the carriage. I think about that daily, barbie slayed with that. Nothing else could top it EVER
I was OBSESSED with this movie when I was a kid. when my sister and I got really sick with a stomach virus, it's all we watched on loop for weeks. (which is why it now gives my mom ptsd) I even got the video game on both pc AND ps2.
That's just an excuse to avoid Japanese anime. The Japanese get on your case like bloodhounds when it comes to copyright, fair use or not. And since he lives in Japan, I don't think he wants to get sued.
@@RKNancyNo he was saying most animation are meant to be silly so there is no point of pointing out the ridiculousness because it's intentional. Where as Barbie is meant to be serious and heart warming. This is why the ridiculousness is commentary worthy.
@@mousepumpkin7564 both can be the reason to avoid anime. There's plenty of ridiculous anime like Rent a Girlfriend or Handshakers or Ex Arm, where he can do commentary and it can make a pretty good video. But it's not worth the headache with the Japanese authorities, who are stuck in the dinosaur age when it comes to copyright. Even now, Nintendo keeps pissing off the whole world because of Switch and its archaic ways.
Alex definitely needs to do the Island Princess at some point. It has some of the darkest underlying meanings I’ve ever seen in a movie meant for small children
@@angelinebena9675 Girl shipwrecks on island and gets raised by animals. Prince goes to island and brings her and her animals from a tropical paradise to a castle where they have to live in a greenhouse to feel somewhat comfortable. He probably brings over unknown diseases to his kingdom cause she’s pretty. King and queen force prince and random princess to marry each other for whatever reason. Mother of princess is gold digger who married her father because he was old and rich and died a few days after the wedding (very suspicious if you ask me) Gold digger tries to have island girl killed because prince falls in love with island girl. Gold digger tries to drug everyone at princess’ wedding and commits multiple accounts of treason. Island girl calls her out on it, gold digger tried to flee but is ultimately stopped Island girl finds her long lost mother then marries prince. The end.
The barbie princess and the Pegasus was the only barbie movie I ever had and I OBSESSIVELY watched it. I'm pretty sure I could still say parts of the script word for word.
I think it would actually be best to watch them chronologically. You get to see how they change, why, and how they are more a product of their time. To me, the change in the Barbie movies is something really interesting. The animation gets so much better, the music gets more modern, and some stories are not clichés of little girl dreams anymore. So, you should start with Barbie as Rapunzel, I think. However, the Barbie movie you really need to see is Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. It has got the best story, the best lesson, and the best character arcs of any Barbie movie. This movie is as dark as the Barbie movies get. That one and Rapunzel. But you can only appreciate Pegasus, if you watched the ones that came before.
This was always one of my favorite Barbie movies because of the dancing. They used motion-capture suits on professional ballerinas to get the movements for this movie as well as other ballet movies in the early Barbie universe. There is a wonderful behind the scenes video on that on TH-cam. The score is so whimsical and beautiful in my opinion too. When I got the DVD for this movie as a little girl, it came with a mat that was supposed to be the magic stone symbols thing and you could learn the dance yourself. I reccomend the next movie be Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. It is definitely a good movie with a fun Barbie and the "Ken" character. Charm School and A Fshion Fairytale are also really fun.
Their dad's teeth cracked me up when they were reviving him. I used to work in a nursing home and I've only seen people look like that, asleep, when their false teeth were loose and nearly falling out. This movie is amazing for all the wrong reasons!

My nostalgia is speaking to me saying if you do another Barbie movie, please do The Nutcracker. I grew up with that, it was first exposure to Clara, the actual nutcrackers that appear at Christmas, and Ballet as a child. I liked the story, girl finds herself saving a wooden soldier and goes to a magical world. Honestly wasn't until years later I found out that it was technically all a dream to Clara and I was dumbfounded....probably even more so than figuring out what the story is an allegory to.
That was the first and only barbie movie i had for a long time. It holds a special place in my heart. I think the next one i got was swan lake because i kept seeing the dolls for it.
The movies that stood out in my childhood were the Island Princess, Mariposa, the Diamond Castle, and the whole Fairytopia saga, especially the 1st and 3rd movie.
I had all the dolls for the dancing princess. I had all 12 sisters, the prince, the carrage, and the horse. I even had the dance mat that went to the dvds. I was obsessed with this movie.
THANK YOU ALEX FOR PICKING MY FAVOURITE BARBIE FILM!! This is probably one of the more creative and interesting storylines that barbie films have! Not to mention the soundtrack is stunning!
I guess I forgot how much of a nightmare these movies were lol. My favorite was always Barbie and the Three Musketeers because of the “fight scenes.” Definitely… one for the history books.
Ooh, yeah! I loved how they could change their "casual" dresses into their vigilante outfits! Plus, Tim Curry voices a character in that one and, as CinemaWins would say, Tim Curry is always a win. Also, excellent user name!
Barbie and the three musketeers is hilariously dumb and sweet! 😆 Also it made me laugh when you said they got married after having 3 conversations and dancing together 1 time because it made me think of pride and prejudice! Because quite literally back then if you danced with someone at a ball once then it was considered harmless and platonic, if you danced with the same person again at the same ball then it was showing a clear sign of interest and that you’re either courting or planning to get engaged.... if you danced 3 times then you were involved, engaged and had better be planning to wed before the next ball!!! 😂😂😂
Well I am sure they know eachother for a long time since it was obvious that he didn't bring them the shoes for the first time at the start of the movie :D
17:04 it's 1am and I'm trying so hard not to laugh. 😂 Alexx please, your laughs are something else and yes that is definitely one of my favourite parts of the movie 😂❤
Fun fact: Catherine O'Hara, the mom from Home Alone, voices Duchess Rowena in this movie (which I didn't find out until years later and after I found out, I can't help but hear Moira Rose from Schitt's Creek)
I think we all can agree this theme song is so iconic and still slaps to this day!!! Even if we never grew up with Barbie, we all know this theme song and it’s so good
I love how in most of these old CGI movies half the scenes had no footstep noises or background noise, just flat silence with intermittent voice lines followed by more silence
You definitely need to watch the Fairytopia series - Bibble is an icon and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on all the interesting characters that are in that (also Mermaidia is the best Barbie movie)!
I really enjoyed the backgrounds in this movie when I was younger. I still do. The whole colour palette being whites and golds instead of the typical pink
You definitely should do Barbie and the Three Musketeers. I devoted an unhealthy amount of my childhood to this movie and wanted to be a swordfighter when I grew up...
barbie movies have the wildest voice casts because they'll occasionally have big names randomly voice a character in their movies - catherine o'hara voices duchess rowena in this, maggie wheeler (janice from friends) voices a character in swan lake, and tim curry voices a character in barbie in the nutcracker, etc. there's probably more that i cant find or just don't recognise the voices of, aha.
I swear any time Tim curry gets a villain role he's like hold my beer and knocks it out what am I playing a tiny cartoon mouse trying to oppress a kingdom and take it over bring. It. On.
The darkest thing about the villain to me was not just that she was poisoning her cousin, but that she kept him and the girls apart by convincing each one that the other didn’t want to see them. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss.

I love that we've gone from "everything made for girls is stupid and lame" to "this is great actually, I'm having the time of my life"
Barbie in the Nutcracker, Barbie of Swan Lake, and Barbie as the princess and the pauper are three of my favorite Barbie movies ever.
LOL
Swan lake was the only Barbie movie I had in VHS so definitely the most nostalgic for me, glad to see I'm not the only one haha
What about the diamond castle one?
On that's my favourite wow I love Barbie 😁
Just love the Swan Lake because of the memories
Just kidding, just for the weird animals
😂 Alex obviously wasn't paying attention to the last barbie movie when Julian sings a whole song on how ✨To be a Princess✨
I love how no one ever questions that the 12 princesses look vastly different from eachother (there are blondes, brunettes, some with black and ginger hair, every eye colour from green, to brown and blue) while the father is blond and blue-eyed and the mother had ginger-brownish hair and blue eyes.... someone has some explaining to do 👀
I thought about that too
Theory: dutchess Rowena is the triplets real mother
(that's why they look so awful, because of inbreeding)
😂😂😂❤
I'm wondering more about their ages. Most of them look the same age.
As a 20+ year old mam, my favorite Barbie movie growing up was always "Barbie and the Nutcracker." And the animation has most definitely not aged poorly at all and holds up to the standards of my sugar-addicted child brain.
OMG my favourite Christmas movie it's a classic
Nutcracker
Rapunzel
Swan Lake
12 Dancing Princesses
Thumbelina (which really doesn't have anything common with the real story except for the name)
Christmas Story
Three Musketeers
I thiiiink the Islamd Princess is also based on a story, but I'm not sure, I just always thought it seemed familiar, especially with poisionous stuff.
This is my favorite Grimms fairy tale. I loved less dark versions as a kid so much.

The “please, she sounds like a deodorant” gets me every time 😭
13:26 the reason why they all love dancing is because their mom loved dancing, and it connects all of them to each other and to their passed mom! they are each unique in that delia and edeline like sports, courtney likes reading, blair likes horses, etc. but dancing is the one thing that brings them together :)
Honestly seeing Alex react to Barbie and the Princess Charm school would be pretty epic. That was always my favorite when I was growing up, and just the absolute bonkers mess they get themselves into is kinda crazy.

The really lesson of this movie is:
never drink/eat anything that your family gives you when they are lower than you in the crown line
There's actually a in-universe reason as to why they reuse the character modles in the barbie movies. They are actualy movies that barbie (an actual actress) plays, and when a character has the same modle as other characters in other movies it's because the actor is the same, we see it in Barbie: fashion fairytale and a few other movies
It's honestly unhinged and fits perfectly in the context of the barbie movies
so, y’know barbie does every single job bc she’s a girlboss, so her actress job has us as the audience? so her movie powers are interdimensional bc we’re not in the barbie universe. or maybe we are, idk!
@@clayfan3 she obviously has interdimensional powers, i mean she IS a girlboss
In the very first Barbie movies there was actually a framing device of Barbie narrating the story to Kelly whenever Kelly was feeling down about something, so I always assumed that the reason why the same characters appeared in different roles was Barbie was filling them with people they knew, hence Barbie always being the heroine, Ken the dashing romantic interest and Kelly taking whatever kid role there was.
For whatever reason, after Swan Lake they dropped the whole Barbie and Kelly bookending the movie.
This was one of my favorite barbie movies as a kid

From what I've heard, apparently, there are two types of Barbie movies: one where Barbie ACTS as a character like in Barbie and the magic of the pegasus and another one where the movie happen's in "the real world" like in Barbie, a fairy secret
Yeah Barbie is Barbie in like the fashion in paris and there they even point out that she's an actor and some of the movie posters hang in the backgound.
As a hardcore Barbie fan, the title actually says a lot.
Is it says '" Barbie in-" or "Barbie as-" that means she is acting.
But if it's a simple title like "Barbie: fairy secret" or "Barbie diaries."
The only exception being Mariposa, which appears to be in a completely different alternate reality of Fairytopia.
#1 rule of a Barbie movie NEVER question anything. Just leave all logic at the door.😂
Me too! I listen to classical music all the time and it all started because I was obsessed with Barbie in the Nutcracker when I was little
Barbie movies, and baby Einstein introduced me to a lot of classics and I ended up first chair violin in night school, totally got my appreciation for classical music young
Yes please!!
The blue elephant 🤣
A group of women dancing on top of a circle made up of symbols and shapes to open up portals...screams occult to me and I love it 😂
Someone needs to make a Barbie version of The Craft RIGHT NOW.
its very important to me that you know that there are actually TWO types of barbie movies that exist in the BCU.
one is where barbie is just barbie, and her name is barbie and its either about her, or she’s telling a story where she’s being imagined as the main character.
the other is like this movie and princess and the pauper, where the movie is actually a movie IN a movie and barbie is the actress playing the main character (genevive, annalise)
you can even watch the “bloopers” in the end credits
so basically barbie is super fucking meta
Actually, they changed the lore again. Now she's in highschool/college (and an influencer, which doesn't play much of a role though), and most movies play in Barbie's "real world".
@@sailorcatthe recent movies take place when she was a bit younger, before the earlier movies. Obviously
@@notaseat5934 I don't know, to me it seems like it's a whole new continuity, and not the same universe as Barbie as an actress.
And then there’s the fairytopia universe 😄
@@sailorcat you mean the TH-camr timeline?

I always loved how a Barbie movie wrote such a painful fate for the power-tripping woman and that guy. Unstoppably dancing until literal death must have been so exhausting and tortuous. Definitely one of my favourite Barbie movies.
Swan Lake would be good for a future video. The villain guy and his daughter with the weird voice are truly... something.
Fun fact, the voice of the daughter is Maggie Wheeler who also plays Janice on friends! But yes swan lake is one of my favourites and he definitely should do it.
Didnt that happen in the ye olde times where a town kept dancing until they drop dead from exhaustion
@@kimmiemay95 for some reason a lot of the early Barbie movies had big VAs keep popping up, Swan Lake, 12 Dancing Princesses, etc. included

That's just an excuse to avoid Japanese anime. The Japanese get on your case like bloodhounds when it comes to copyright, fair use or not. And since he lives in Japan, I don't think he wants to get sued.
Honestly there is Animation and then there's Barbie Animation it just exists on another level
I think part of it is that the Barbie movies art style is so different from Alex's that no one would mistake one for the other.

The way you said Derek the cobbler at 5:59 was hilarious!!!
I really like your reviews. They are so fun to watch
I love watching barbie movies just for nostalgia, also fun to see how massively kids shows have changed over the years
This was always one of my favorite Barbie movies because of the dancing.

My nostalgia is speaking to me saying if you do another Barbie movie, please do The Nutcracker. I liked the story, girl finds herself saving a wooden soldier and goes to a magical world. Honestly wasn't until years later I found out that it was technically all a dream to Clara and I was dumbfounded....probably even more so than figuring out what the story is an allegory to.

Barbie and the three musketeers is hilariously dumb and sweet! 😆
Also it made me laugh when you said they got married after having 3 conversations and dancing together 1 time because it made me think of pride and prejudice! 😂😂😂

So happy you're still doing Barbie movies and not down by the previous experience, Alex. Keep making such videos!!!

Also the cousin Rowena being the reason that she kept the fan in the first place lol 🤣
Never laughed so much in a loooong time, thanks!
barbie movies have the wildest voice casts because they'll occasionally have big names randomly voice a character in their movies - catherine o'hara voices duchess rowena in this, maggie wheeler (janice from friends) voices a character in swan lake, and tim curry voices a character in barbie in the nutcracker, etc. there's probably more that i cant find or just don't recognise the voices of, aha.
Yess and also Martin Short as Preminger was pretty iconic!
I swear any time Tim curry gets a villain role he's like hold my beer and knocks it out what am I playing a tiny cartoon mouse trying to oppress a kingdom and take it over bring. It. On.
