I think one element of the game it would have been worth going over that you didn't address is what sets this apart from SRW: Team development and customization. If you're someone who loves tech trees and building units and whatnot, this whole G Generation series shines. I want to talk about something important for new comers. Since in this video dose not explain new mechanics to the series. A new change for the secret objectives, in older versions of the SD series when you beat the main unit of the secret objectives you can capture them but that change in Cross Rays now when you beat them you unlock skills. To capture units you must complete the dispatch missions with other rewards but it's a 100% possible to fail the mission and lose a unit or two since you have no control over the dispatch missions. Lets talk about the new raids groups, previews series you always must have two ships if you want to have two groups but with the introduction of raid groups you can now deploy units with no ship. Since that group did not deploy with the ship you can't return to a ship to recharge your EN rather you must use the move all command to move all your units by doing so your units will attack automatically to a near by unit base on there range but when you use the move all command you will regain health and EN. Development of units is the same. Lets talk about the GET bar. This bar is presented to the main guest unit. By defeating enemy units with the guest unit you will gain a bar and when you fill this bar that guest unit for example the Strike Gundam when you fill the bar for the Strike Gundam it will appear in your production list meaning you can know buy the unit. The GET bar is not a new mechanic but just wanted to inform you all. A major change to custom characters. previews series custom pilots always have a show eyes but now you can have eyes to your custom characters. If you want to have a better understanding of the series as a whole I recommend playing SD Gundam Overworld or SD Gundam G Generation World for the PSP both game are translated thanks too a dedicated team. I hope this is informative to new players. Happy playing Edit: I forgot to something important A new feature is a single save file. while there are bunch of quick save slots you only have one save file. Every time you beat a mission it auto saves and when you start up a new mission you are force to delete all of your quick save slots.
the sad thing is, this feel like a step backwards compared to overworld. they went back to the portable/F way of missions, and the secrets are much less interesting, since they are always in series encounters, that also dont feel worth the trouble most of the time. the new skill and ability systems are interesting, specially since you can really make use of some weird combos(like putting trailblazer ver. Patrick on the strike freedom meteor, to make him basically doubly imortal).or putting lock on in a wing zero custom to boost its damage to ludicrous levels(too bad there's no DX in the game). because they limited themselves to 4 AUs, they should've gone all the way, and maybe make something closer to advance or better yet, g generation DS.
Marcos Danilo I agree that secrets are less interesting now. Since originally you do a secret mission to capture units to keep or develop and doing it feels you accomplished the challenge but now doing a secret mission doesn’t feel rewarding since they just add extra enemies too the field. Sure you can get extra money but doesn’t feel rewarding.
exactly, what they should'be done is actually link the secrets with getting special units, or even bonus for the GET BAR for ships since farming them is kind of a pain in the ass. right now, there really isnt much reason to go for the secret besides acomplishment, or a quest. i still feel like its a massive backstep compared with overworld where there was challenge encounters AND generation breaks, making them more fun to go after.

There is DLC where you can buy new characters/mechs. I'm not entirely sure if they are from other series though. It's in Japanese on the eShop and I'm not an expert to start with.
Just dropping in to say I got this physical(Japanese premium G-Sound) And it came with same bits you got, the code for the early stuff and Monoeyes Gundam.
@@scottemery133 It has English language in the options itself. Once you sort that out it helps. You do need a Japanese Eshop account to purchase DLC if you want that.
2 questions. 1.) how did the game perform in handheld mode as opposed to docked. 2.) are you using a digital or physical copy. I ask these because i have heard alot of reports or display lag, and crashing on the Switch.
Thank you so much for your review, just got my copy and i'm having an extremely hard time putting it down! Time flys when playing this game! Have you played Genesis?
I like almost everything in this game, but there are 2 things that become my minus points for this game(Based on my own experience playing this game for almost 2 months) : 1. I don't know if this only happens on my Switch, but this game tend to freeze or even forced shut down due to unknown error... Is this only happens when you play this in Handheld Mode but safe in Docked Mode? I don't know, but this happens more than thrice... 2. The translation is bad... Like Fon Spaak called his Astraea F2 "Astray", Tieria Erde called his Virtue "Veda", Duo Maxwell doesn't mention anything about his "Partner" despite the voice say otherwise, and the worst offender so far is the quest to unlock Ride from Gundam IBO where the text said that you need to unlock Shiden Custom "RYUSEI-GO" but the truth is that you need to unlock RAIDEN-GO & heck even the Japanese Text write it as "Raiden-Go" in Japanese not "Ryusei-Go"... Also, some of the translation are waaay off from the original meaning, some are acceptable & cooler because it fits the pilot's personality, but some are super duper off like this 1 simple example where Argi Mirage scream "IKEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" but the text said "Go... Gooo!!!"..... If SRT English Translation's bad due to typo, weird translation, & mistranslation for some things including the weapon name(Getter Razor into Getter Laser? Pffft), SD Gundam Cross Rays English Translation's bad due to some weird translation, mistranslation for some names, & 1 misleading translation(Since i only found 1 so far)... I'm super duper bad with Japanese especially the writing(Super duper bad with Kanji, Hiragana, & Katakana), but not that bad since i've watched anime, read manga(Including the translation note, which is helpful, trust me), & have a friend who's kinda fluent with Japanese that can tell if the translation's correct or not so i kinda know even just a bit(But don't throw me Kanji, Hiragana, & Katakana... Instant-Death).
Fair points, I almost exclusively played in docked due to getting review footage and didn't have a single freeze or shut down. A couple of black screens for a few seconds, but nothing major. Sadly, I'm not an expert enough to talk about the translation, It seemed fine to me as an outside observer. Thanks for the comment!
@@SwitchWatch unfortunately i don't have a TV that support HDMI(My parents are being stingy... Gotta work & buy a brand new TV since mine in my room's about 15 years old...) and it is a pain since they limit the frame rate in Handheld Mode... Luckily i only spot that 1 fatal mistranslation on the Quest... If it's more than 1, i hope that Bandai Namco choose a better translation group..... Especially for future Super Robot Wars game(Please be better than V in terms of story overall & better than T in terms of translation)
Thanks for the review was waiting for this. It was between this or Super Robot Wars T, and because im new to it all, I have just bought T. Unfortunately I could only find the Japanese one in the UK. I don't like buying from playasia import/customs gets me fees every time.

So i just watched my first gundam series which was unicorn, what a series action packed every episode now im watching the others, but i deffinetely getting this game looks wicked awesome good review im giving a like and a sub
Speaking of Sd Gundam strategy games on Nintendo systems, people need to check out SD Gundam Gashapon Wars for Gamecube and Wii. Its a turn based strategy game featuring UC and CE suits, but a lot simpler like Advanced Wars. However, once you enter combat, it becomes a power stone style action game. Theres a ton of suits and content, local multiplayer, and is one of my favorite gundam games. It was even developed by the Smash bros team.
My first contact with this game series was through the SD G Generation Overworld fantranslated PSP game, and I fell in love with it. I'm glad that we have now a proper PC release of the new game in the series and on Steam nevertheless!
I believe they just announced Cross Rays is getting released locally in NA. Since there isn't the same licensing problem as Super Robot Wars (ie. everything owned by the same company) this was a no-brainer for Bamco.
Great review, however worth mentioning that the Switch version is VERY poorly optimised when in handheld mode, battle scenes run at less than 20 fps and are incredibly choppy. Also a lot of reports of visual glitches and full game crashes. I have had several black screen freezes that require a full restart of the switch console to resolve. Map sprites are also low res, which is a shame considering how often the player views them. Hopefully they will patch some of these issues! Currently SD G Gen on Vita looked and performed better than this does on the switch.
@@butlertie they did not I have the premium g sound edition on switch and was hoping to play it but in 5 hours i got at least 7 full crash and not to mention the really bad performances which suck i was looking foward to this...
Yes it's on the Japanese eShop. You need to make a second account with a different email and set your region to Japan. You'll also need some Japanese eShop credit.
I got the Japanese Premium BGM version from play-asia for $100 before shipping. But you have to wait a while for it to arrive, so factor that into the cost.
Didn’t have a single issue like that on my end. Little bit of slowdown in some environments, but nothing serious. When was the last time you turned your Switch off completely? Might be worth a shot to try
T is the latest release, very very similar games but T is more polished of the two. Better animation quality, variety and so on. Both great games though
Bought a physical copy for my Lite. Sadly, battle animations are terrible imo with handheld. It drops to 15-20 depending on terrain. I still enjoy the gameplay since I've been in G Gen since the PSP titles.
The game is more of a tactical RPG and also there are people i know that doesn't like the anime/manga but loves playing the games so you don't really have to be a fan of the series to enjoy playing this game because i loved watching the anime Tales of the Abyss but i didn't enjoy the game same goes for the game Disgaea i really enjoy playing that but the anime was meh so really the game is focus on 2 different types of people which are the types that loves the anime and the type that loves a tactical RPG and also for people that doesn't like seeing the animated battle cutscenes they can always skip it and just go through it a little more quickly.

Can't say 100% for sure, but I would assume it does.
Can switch lite play this game as framerate good as switch ?
Yes it can buddy. Should be decent frame rate for the most part, a few slightly rough sections but nothing that bothered me too much
@@SwitchWatch Thank you so much. :)
Just dropping in to say I got this physical(Japanese premium G-Sound)
And it came with same bits you got, the code for the early stuff and Monoeyes Gundam.
Thanks for the info buddy!
I got the premium G switch vers which i plan to never open. Itll be a collectors item someday
Hi, does the Japanese physical version have an English option? I know there's an English physical version but I'd prefer the Japanese one...
@@scottemery133 It has English language in the options itself.
Once you sort that out it helps.
You do need a Japanese Eshop account to purchase DLC if you want that.
@@RoboP Great. Thanks a lot.
2 questions. 1.) how did the game perform in handheld mode as opposed to docked. 2.) are you using a digital or physical copy. I ask these because i have heard alot of reports or display lag, and crashing on the Switch.
Seemed fine to me buddy, as you can see I have the physical version.
Will this play on u.s./n.a. switch?
Yes it will! 😃
3yrs later I just got the platinum edition for 4200 yen never played a gundam game before battle Alliance I'm so excited
Does the Japanese version include English translation?
@@Noisemaze1yes
Is it release everywhere or just in japan
Japan and other Asian regions. Maybe there will be a western release, but who knows
SwitchWatch every time there is a japan release they are alway so expensive to buy like Atelier bundle and more.
Is it out on US Server for Nintendo switch
Sadly not, you need to get from the Japanese eShop or import a physical copy.
Why is it not available on the eshop :(
It's on the Japanese and Hong Kong eShop with English. It's very easy to set up and purchase eShop credit for those regions, especially Japan
SwitchWatch and buying it as fast and hard as a colony hitting a planet...
SwitchWatch been playing for 10hrs and loving it, thanks for the review, totally worth it for me
anybody know how to redeem the early order bonus (sisquide etc) in switch? the code isn't in 16 digit
Which version did you get?
@@SwitchWatch Asia most likely since everything on the box is in English, and it is the normal one (not deluxe)
what about difficulty? Is it easy like SRW? do you one shot everything with no strategy?
nvm lol should've waited until the end of the video.
Glad we could provide the answer you’re looking for 😊
If I buy this in the Japanese E-shop will I be able to play it in english?
Yes bud
The Japan’s download version has english subs ?
Yes
Bought it because I wanted another Dynasty Warriors Gundam
The PC version is soo good.
Will people in the US be able to play this on switch
If you download from the Japanese eShop, or import a physical copy (links in the description), then yes you can play it. It has English.
What country do i make for the english translation
Are you talking digitally or physically?
If your planning on downloading it you can make your region japan, then you will get access to the Japanese download store.
I wish the price tag is lower :/
Thank you so much for your review, just got my copy and i'm having an extremely hard time putting it down! Time flys when playing this game! Have you played Genesis?
Awesome review Jordan, like always.. I don’t own a single game in this style gameplay
Yeah it won't be for everyone, there's a reason its a more niche genre. Maybe should give it a try with Fire Emblem or Wargroove?
Start with Fire Emblem. It’s got a great fully voiced story. It’s a good place to start.
I was looking for something that reminded me of front mission on the ps1 and this looks right up my alley.
Loved the video and you get a new sub!
Cheers Steve!
How can I get this game? It's not on eshop?:(
Super late but if you never found out. You can order them via import from websites like play asia
Thanks! Great Review!
You ARE lovely.
As are you Peter!
I like almost everything in this game, but there are 2 things that become my minus points for this game(Based on my own experience playing this game for almost 2 months) :
It's a revamped version of SD Gundam G Generation Overworld. Will play it since there's more units and more animations than the former.
Thanks for the review was waiting for this. It was between this or Super Robot Wars T, and because im new to it all, I have just bought T. Unfortunately I could only find the Japanese one in the UK. I don't like buying from playasia import/customs gets me fees every time.
The Japanese Super Robot Wars T? That doesn't have English right?
Get yourself a Japanese account, the digital games of SRW V and T and this ons has english sub
@@SwitchWatch
Oh.. im not sure, the one I've ordered looks just like yours, there's no English on the cover
Mines the Chinese one, can you send me the link? I can confirm or not if it has english
@@SwitchWatch
I messaged the seller they said it has english on cart so it must be the Chinese one, they said it was NTSC-C.
Thanks for getting back to me though 👍
So i just watched my first gundam series which was unicorn, what a series action packed every episode now im watching the others, but i deffinetely getting this game looks wicked awesome good review im giving a like and a sub
Thanks bud!
Sounds cool!
My first contact with this game series was through the SD G Generation Overworld fantranslated PSP game, and I fell in love with it. I'm glad that we have now a proper PC release of the new game in the series and on Steam nevertheless!
Hope you have a great time with it buddy!
What console his this on
Ragnar PC, PS4 and Switch.
Very disappointed it’s not on the western eshop
woot woot came out on the PC and i'm happy AF
Have a great time buddy!
I don’t see this on switch online store.
It’s on the Japanese and HK eShop 👍 or available for purchase physically via the links in the description
@@SwitchWatch thanks
when u lose a unit, u lose it forever right?
If there is English and a steam english review then why not release on switch in english/west too? The work is done
Jesse Procher series and music licenses and dubbing probably
@@JeFFrOcKz312 wouldnt they already have to pay considering the west steam release?
Jesse Procher that actually is interesting. It’s probably for dumb reasons. It’s bamco.
I'm not sure Steam is considered an "international" release.
Viene para PS4?
This game has been great only question I have for you is on pc are you experiencing crashes? Or is it just my pc?
Right Jordan get me a copy
So does the shop.verson support English?
Japanese eShop version does for sure.
@@SwitchWatch wellllllllllllllllll
How is the framerate? Im downloading it right now..
In some environments the attacks can be occasionally slightly lower framerate, but nothing too noticeable for me.
bad when undock but playable
Hmmmm....I prefer a collection of the beat em up from the Super Famicom era 😁😁😁
retro collections are all the rage these days, who knows!
What console his this on?
Nintendo Switch.
Also PC and PS4
I believe they just announced Cross Rays is getting released locally in NA. Since there isn't the same licensing problem as Super Robot Wars (ie. everything owned by the same company) this was a no-brainer for Bamco.
Would be cool if true!
Reminds me of the game on the old Toonami website
Great review, however worth mentioning that the Switch version is VERY poorly optimised when in handheld mode, battle scenes run at less than 20 fps and are incredibly choppy. Also a lot of reports of visual glitches and full game crashes. I have had several black screen freezes that require a full restart of the switch console to resolve. Map sprites are also low res, which is a shame considering how often the player views them. Hopefully they will patch some of these issues! Currently SD G Gen on Vita looked and performed better than this does on the switch.
What console his this on?
@@troublesome1101 Nintendo Switch version :)
I was looking for a Switch Performance review on this game. Thanks for your comment. I hope they fix it soon.
Did they patch already? Because i want to pickup switch version
@@butlertie they did not I have the premium g sound edition on switch and was hoping to play it but in 5 hours i got at least 7 full crash and not to mention the really bad performances which suck i was looking foward to this...
can i buy this digitally some how?
Joshua Worman create a singapore eshop account
Yes it's on the Japanese eShop. You need to make a second account with a different email and set your region to Japan. You'll also need some Japanese eShop credit.
I got the Japanese Premium BGM version from play-asia for $100 before shipping. But you have to wait a while for it to arrive, so factor that into the cost.
Wow! Hope you have a great time with it my man
@@SwitchWatch I intend to! Although fedex went and decided that since I wasnt home they would try and deliver it again tomorrow. So that's a bummer.
It sucks on switch, cant tell you how many times it froze, lags and crashed on me. Make sure you quick save very often.
Didn’t have a single issue like that on my end. Little bit of slowdown in some environments, but nothing serious. When was the last time you turned your Switch off completely? Might be worth a shot to try
What the difrent bitween super robot wars T and super robot wars V
T is the latest release, very very similar games but T is more polished of the two. Better animation quality, variety and so on. Both great games though
@@SwitchWatch oh tvmc for the info
I got the game a few months ago and it came with a dlc code and I can't put in the code don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Which version did you get? Japanese or Hong Kong? You need to use the respective eShop for that region.
Thank you for your review
You're welcome Rick!
9:20 Looks like that is no longer true, albeit Steam only. Maybe one day G Generation...maybe one day.
Thanks for this review~
is this on mobile?
Not that I know of
Bought a physical copy for my Lite. Sadly, battle animations are terrible imo with handheld. It drops to 15-20 depending on terrain. I still enjoy the gameplay since I've been in G Gen since the PSP titles.
@Weston Meyer I didn't considering how poor the performance is. Is it by any chance better?
Strike Noir: im the best shooter ever!
Zabanya: hold my Haro "Dynames" and Haro "Cherudim"
The G-Units??? Dayyummm lol G-G-GGGG!!!
I’d love a good hack and slash mech game on then $20 range with an action based rpg.
There are Gundam Warriors games, but we haven't had a new one in a long time.
SwitchWatch I’ll check it out.
gundam breaker 3 is the game you want. simple at first but after a while it become awesome.
sickman5236 I’ll look it up.
This game is on sale on steam! 70% off
As someone who loves and bought all the dlc i did winch at price 😂
No digital versions of this or super robot wars 😭😭
You can get them from the Japanese eShop. Very easy to set up. switchwatch.co.uk/switch-eshops-how-to-access-different-regions/
