The red shift mode should also extend the epix battery life since it needs to illuminate less pixels.

This is my first smart / fitness / health watch....why does hardly anyone mention the awesome golf stats on this watch ? EPIX PRO I just ordered this watch in sapphire cause i am an avid golfer.....its was a huge selling point for me,, plus i wanted an everyday smart / health / sports watch all in one...lookin forward to getting it.....great video....cheers from Canada

I think for the long distance athlete it's got to be the Fenix as the solar will resist battery drain to a noticeable amount. I have the epix and honestly the Amoled screen is nice but it's nothing more than a fashion feature as the MIP screens on the Fenix are better in sunlight. Both are excellent but I'd trade my epic for the fenix if buying again. Admittedly gesture mode does a lot on thenepix to save battery, but gesture mode is incredibly frustrating when running as most of the time it just doesn't work so requires a screen or button tap which might not seem a big deal but it is annoying for sure. However the best way to preserve battery that no one mentions is to switch GPS mode to auto. Basically it selects the option it needs at any given time to be accurate. This saves a tonne of battery Vs always being on the all systems/frequencies GPS mode without any negatives. This alone gets me 30 hours on the epic 2 (non pro) for activity tracking. That's still not long enough for endurance athletes but it's very good. The Fenix pro will likely get near 50 hours in this mode which likely will be enough for most ultra athletes

Im at that point where i am deciding between epix pro and fenix 7 pro, is your stance still the same?

Imho the amoled screen and its gesture mode is frustrating not when you are running ( you must rotate wrist to read in any case, also with Mip).
Instead, It it frustrating and not reccomended if you're cycling, swimming, or in normal L
life when you are in a position you can watch the display without moving arm.

Show us Sleep Validation with Garmin's first beat analytics. If that is validated as being one of the best, then the Garmin is truly top tier fitness watch!

Lol it’s not! At least for last epix gen- garbage hr too. Watch the quantified scientists review

@@30mattdavies that sensor he is taking as gold standard is only 70% accurate. not very scientific. For me sleep score on Garmin mostly reflects how i feel.
I've had problems with hr both apple and garmin. Doesn't make sense to use optical hr anyway if you are doing anything more than steady state, HR strap is king
Anyway with all watches you need to also check how you feel and not rely on number from your watch.

@@30mattdavies Did you even wear it?
I have both and I think Garmin sleep tracking vastly outperforms Apples. Quantified scientist is N=1 and he might be the target audience where the sleep algo is trained well against.

Accurate sleep state tracking with heart rate (variability) and accelerometer alone is pretty challenging. That’s why accuracy of sleep stagetracking in smart-/sport watches is lacking currently.

4:19 one thing I think could have been done better with this, allow for weather map overlay / radar to show DURING activities
