About the price, these watches are not for everyone, you are paying for a luxury product, it costs 700 or 1000 dollars the difference is minimal for a luxury product. So if the design and the new software (it just looks nicer) is pretty much the only thing that has changed compared to the previous version, the price increase is hardly justifiable. Especially because the things that are really new, namely the smartwatch functions with the microphone and the loudspeaker, apparently do not work satisfactorily (yet) and the new buttons do not convince everyone either.
@@heinzmuller8831 price increase technically is just $100, and based on that is totally justifiable because you get a bigger literal display on the 47 mm, plus the diving capabilities are significant if that is important to you, and then overall yes the new UI and design

After reading a bunch of comments on various websites where the user returned their OLED model to go back to MIP, I'm not sure "OLED is where it's at".
A bunch of comments is representative of .0000001% of the population. Look at garmin's sales call to investors and overall market trends. OLED is more sought after whether it's better suited to your needs or not. Average ppl prefer OLED, and Garmin has already ingrained itself in the enthusiast crowd for years, so the new customers aren't Garmin classic fans, but incoming adopters. Garmin is extending its mass market appeal and that market is OLED. Whether we like it or not, MIP is going the way of the headphone jack
@@seanlinehan1136 Not as long as something else comes along with the same advantages: no weird hand motion needed to turn on the watchface, no burn-in (I've seen a lot of OLED Garmin users, even with the recent Epix 2, posting on Reddit the heavily deteriorated state of their OLED screen in less than 2 years without it being even set to always-on), way longer battery life, great daytime visibility and no distraction from the watch in lower light conditions due to the LED light. While I don't think this will 100% be that future, a Garmin Connect build recently leaked a MicroLED version of the F8. So who knows, we may end up with the best of both worlds with a two-layered system combining a transflective MIP AOD for "passive use" below a transparent MicroLED screen for "active use", but at which cost… As for me, coming from a Tactix Delta (F6X family) and after having used an AMOLED watch too (Galaxy Watch 6 Classic) I'll stick to MIP with a F8 51 Solar which is on its way to my door.

good vid - thanks. But at what point in time in this crazy world did we ever think that the intended market for a fenix8 is an epix pro or F7pro?? These watches are not APPLE iphones designed to be upgraded every year. This madness started with phones and youtube creators are pushing the same mentality to high end fitness watches. These are not the same. There are so many comments "the upgrade isnt worth it" haha course its not. Epix gen2 pro or even a fenix 7 is not the intended market. Sure an odd one in a hundred might upgrade for various reason but compare it to a 5 or 6 and those users will see a substantial upgrade.

Im surprised you dont like the buttons I think they are nice. I think they are much better than my Epix 2 anyways but dont know about the pro. The only real negative for me at the moment is that the dim screens are like impossible to see in most situations. My Epix 2 was was easier to see in the dim mode. Ive had plenty of Fenix’s and the Epix 2, went for the Fenix 8 and after a week retuned it for a few reasons. 1. Software is v buggy and crashes (which is a first for Garmin in my experience) 2. UI is sluggish 3. My AW Ultra vs the Fenix 8 is a bargain 4. AW app ecosystem really is getting strong to compete with Garmin now (Athlytic, Work Outdoors, Zones, Bevel etc). 5. Vitals on AW is a nice simple way of bringing things together …but arguably for £950, it’s really not worthy of that given the software issues and competition 😢 which is a shame as I usually love Garmin and the hardware of the watch is awesome. Bugs are still there.. no solution from Garmin!!! Amoled screen in the night is unreadable because of the auto-dimming.. never had such issue with EpixPRO 51 amoled or Fenix7x.. also software is still laggy
I have mine since 2 weeks and no issues at all. I was scared about the comments of these issues, as I've seen many, However, is the people without issues saying it? Mostly not. And most people does not have any issues, so am I. Totally worth buying it for me.
@@whiteran sorry to hear that! I did not have that issue at all, so you might want to do a hard reset of the watch going back to factory, and then see if it still happens. There are ancillary cases where sometimes that has to be done in order to rectify some minor tweak that doesn't get caught in the firmware updates because it's not specific to a firmware update
Everything you just said, that you like with the watch, apart from the different screen, is a software improvement... It's not worth the 400 dollars more.
Don’t agree, what because it the latest and greatest Garmin, I will keep my Epix Gen 2 and keep my hard earned cash in my pocket thanks, just like mobile phones unless I see big upgrade I’m done with changing my Apple Pro Max or Ultra S24 every year. I take it they paid you to say bs 😂

@@renevh2832 interesting! I'm literally coming from an Epix pro and 965, and have to buy all watches w my own money - so nothing can be more honest than sharing thoughts in that backdrop. Agree, love my Fenix 8. Design and screen size are the main atraction for me coming from an epix 2. It just feels all new now with the bigger font and style in the 1.4 inch display. So, because the marq series is dramaticly overpriced, makes the fenix 8 a great deal? That makes no sense at all. For non divers, except from the new design, there is literally no useful new feature compared to the epix pro. TH-camrs shoult start to think like they had bought the watches from theire own money and not just got it from Garmin to test (promote). This watches (even the marq 2) will be Electronic Waste in 5-6 Years and no one will wear it just for the design. Also there will be a new model with even better design, there is no point at all. In my opinion, fenix 8 is now at a point, where it is more like a lifestyle Gadget to show others. It is not about the features anymore... Well played Garmin marketing Team.
He typically doesn’t get review units. And the Fenix 8 design is objectively better now, not on the Marq level but it is quite a bit nicer than before.
This seems like a great time for new to Garmin folks - like me. Not all products are for an upgrade process, but as a first Garmin product it seems to be as a polished product. I’m hoping to see my Fenix 8 51 MIP arrive today - where I will test if I prefer it over my AWU 2. Yes I could have got a discounted 7X Pro or Enduro 3 cheaper but this expensive watch drew me in as it feels like it will tick some of the boxes that only the AWU has checked.
@@seanlinehan1136
Not as long as something else comes along with the same advantages: no weird hand motion needed to turn on the watchface, no burn-in (I've seen a lot of OLED Garmin users, even with the recent Epix 2, posting on Reddit the heavily deteriorated state of their OLED screen in less than 2 years without it being even set to always-on), way longer battery life, great daytime visibility and no distraction from the watch in lower light conditions due to the LED light.
While I don't think this will 100% be that future, a Garmin Connect build recently leaked a MicroLED version of the F8.
So who knows, we may end up with the best of both worlds with a two-layered system combining a transflective MIP AOD for "passive use" below a transparent MicroLED screen for "active use", but at which cost…
As for me, coming from a Tactix Delta (F6X family) and after having used an AMOLED watch too (Galaxy Watch 6 Classic) I'll stick to MIP with a F8 51 Solar which is on its way to my door.
